Update on 4/27/26 Only by writing my honest review did I get the attention of the executives at this company and my phone call returned today. They decided to refund my $1800 for removal and not pursue working with me since their service could not "meet my satisfaction." Expecting a response within a week is reasonable for any active business this size. If you read the review of others here you will conclude that I am not the only customer who has experienced lagged and/poor communication. I suggest you improve your support workflow in order to thrive in this industry. In the few hours that have gone by, I was able to get a quote and schedule service with another local company. Original Review Do not rely on this company for good customer service from the operations end, good communication or follow-up. They require you to pay an invoice before any work is done. However, when it comes time to schedule the service no matter how many messages you leave or emails you send, don't expect to hear back from them. My solar purchase and installation took well over 6 months in 2024. Although I purchased my panels in June, they were not installed until the end of October. After the first winter I had some concerns about loose shingles and called. A service answered and took a message and it took weeks before I heard back, months before anyone came out to look. While I am happy with the solar system, a year and a half in I believe I may need more panels (I wanted to purchase more panels). So I reached out to CertaSun - they still have a service answering the phone and taking messages. Over a week later, I still haven't heard back. This company was fine on the install but is very bad when it comes to any servicing. My panels have been having issues for three weeks, and Certasun won't return calls and sporadically returns emails. I would choose another vendor who stands behind their workmanship. read more

I started my solar investigation in the spring of 2024 and the project was finished at the end of June 2024. I "interviewed" many companies, but Paul was my first and last sales person. Certasun did an excellent job making their way through the long process to get my system installed and hooked up to Comed. When I started the process of looking for solar late last year Certasun was one of the companies that provided a quote. That was the last I heard from them. I emailed back asking follow up questions after receiving their quote. I never heard back from them. I sent additional follow up emails to the rep and still no answer. I received other quotes from other companies and many of those were quick to respond to all my questions. I've been excitedly awaiting my solar panel quote for weeks. A couple days out from my appointment, I received one voicemail and email presuming my building is commercial. It isn't, which was clarified via email since they called during a work day. Received cancellation notice of my appointment the following day. No reason, no email, no voicemail. For something I was very much looking forward to, I am now severely disappointed in this company's lack of professionalism and responsiveness. Beware of recent reviews on Google concerning disorganization after making the purchase too. There are reports of panels being installed, money taken without dependent components up and running. Certasun was by far the best choice! No more ComEd bills this summer! Normally we pay $150/mo for coal-generated electricity from ComEd in the summer months because of air conditioning. Now, our panels are making all the electrical power, carbon-free, for us and the extra is stored with ComEd through the net metering program. We are storing away sunshine for cloudy days! If ComEd power goes out, our solar panels will continue to give us electricity! Our panels give us the energy first and any extra goes to ComEd for storage that will be given back to us when our electricity demand exceeds what the panels can give us. Our summer ComEd bill is $30 now. ALL THIS BECAUSE OF CERTASUN! We have been wanting solar panels for years for one reason: to help be a part of the solution to stop emiting carbon. Solar panels were always so expensive in the past. But, now with state and federal incentives, solar panels are 1/2 price. This past January, 2022, I looked at the Illinois Shines website and saw lots of vendor choices for solar panels. We called several vendors but weren't ready to commit to them. Frankly, it was overwhelming. I was nervous that vendors would stand behind their product. Luckily, my husband heard an ad for CertaSun on NPR and I gave them a try. I was not disappointed. Bill Wayne, Senior Solar Consultant, was excellent. He spent all the time that we needed to answer our questions and he gave an excellent presentation. Way better than any of the solar presentations I had heard previously. We pestered him with lots of emails and phone calls and he responded every time and was patient and extremely informed on the solar landscape including state, federal, and local regulations and incentives. If it weren't for Bill Wayne, I don't know if we would have solar yet! Certasun staff kept their promises, sent us the paperwork, and followed through in the time period promised. And as promised, It took 3 months from the initial contact to installation. Staff were knowledgeable, professional and really easy to talk to. Neighbors, and people driving through the neighborhood, including the skeptical ones, are constantly asking us about the panels and admiring how they look. I don't know how many times I have heard "I think we are going to look into it too!" My next door neighbor is very particular on how things look and she always reminds us how pretty the solar panels look on our roof. Not to mention, the value of our house increased by 4%...we checked Zillow. This investment is a win-win. We win with low energy bills and zero carbon emissions and our neighbors and surrounding community wins because of increased homeowner value. I highly recommend CertaSun. Great company. Love the Sun Power app that tracks our energy usage and the power from the sun. Sun always wins! For example, our 1 month home usage is 610 kWh. The solar panels are generating 774.4 kWh = 127%. The extra energy is being sent to the grid and is being stored by ComEd for us when days are cloudy or at night. The savings for September is $58.37 = 62 gallons of gas. Impressive. Oh! Went solar and couldn't be happier that I chose the Certasun team! I had been looking at going solar for a couple years now but the price had always put me off. Now with the Illinois incentives and the 30% tax credit they were finally in my reach. After looking at other solar companies and seeing all the poor customer service reviews I started looking at what the best solar panels were. I came across Sunpower panels and found them to have the best warranty (25 years) and the lowest rate of decline (only 8% over 25 years). The Sunpower site then linked me to a local installer in my area, which led me to Certasun, and I couldn't be happier! I called them up and Jesse came to my house later that week. He went over my ComEd bills and helped determined a system that would offset my production by 100%. He answered all my questions about the new Illinois incentive system for 2108 and explained the new tiered system. A couple of days later he sent out Micah and his crew to do an evaluation of my roof, attic and electrical panel. It was determined that I needed to upgrade to a 200AMP electrical panel and that I also had some plywood on the roof that needed to be replaced so that the panels would have a strong foundation. Since I was getting my roof redone anyway I had the roofers replace all the plywood where the solar panels were going so I wouldn't have any issues with the solar panels. The longest part was waiting for permits and the roof to be done. During this time Micah kept me informed about how everything was going and was a great resource to help me understand all about solar and battery storage. When it finally came for the day of the install, Micah and his team got everything done in 2 days. I now have a 30 panel 10.8kW system and can't wait to see my lower bills!!!!! Was told I didn't qualify due to a over 6 mo old picture of my property which showed trees that were cut down in Oct/Nov. I was told they have updated photos of my property (they said they update every 6 weeks). Did not come out to look at property or asked for any pictures. I don't know why people are giving them five stars. We bought a house a month ago with solar panels from Certasun. It turns out that the system is not working, and the former owner, whom we will sue for misleading us, didn't inform us, although he was receiving the information from the app. We contacted Jennifer Rickel and Paul Doughty from Certasun. Except for promises that they would fix the problem, Paul Doughty misled us that we needed to register with Comed by sending an address of SunPower. And we have an official answer from SunPower that Certasun is responsible for the warranty. So, for more than two months, we have been unable to use any electricity produced by our solar panel system. To say a company is not reputable or "going out of business" so you can get business is ridiculous. Or to say "I guess you don't care about going with the best option". I was initially approached by another company who promised me the world with solar. I wanted to go solar, but my village did not allow installations so the whole sale came to a screeching halt. An entire year went by while the process was approved by the village and in that time I was able to do some research and found that the best panels available were actually make by SunPower. The other company could not offer a panel with output and characteristics similar to Certasun's panels. The other company would also not allow me to purchase my own srec, but Certasun assisted me in purchasing my srec. Sheri Tremblay was very helpful in pulling in the right people to get the same finalized. The installation team was professional and after a year of production, it still looks sharp and works great. You get what you pay for and although I might have paid a little more with Certasun, my ROI is faster because I am producing more energy. I am playing the long game. read more

Then I strongly urge you to run, run as fast as you can from this company. This company is deceitful, dishonest, and filled with excuses with everything other than their own lack there of. You can do all the research in the world and still come across a lemon. If it weren't for the SunPower solar system they are licensed to sell in Illinois, I would have canceled my order and gone with another company. Below are my honest encounters with this company over the several months. While their solar panels may be some of the best in the industry, this company displays one of the worst customer intimacy plans I have ever experience and I am truly terrified that they are solely monitoring the success of my solar system for the next 25+ years. If you do your research on this company, they have nothing but 5 star reviews but after experiencing what I did, this is no five star company and the ratings are likely paid for, and highly fictitious. Pricing was comparably high in the market, though in line with the other several company's we researched. Assuming this comes as the cost of living in such a fine state like Illinois..... Cons: Everything you can imagine Pros: Sun Power Solar System. Panels look great and perform at an extremely high level for a long period of time. Also, the installation team did a fantastic job and was everything Certasun, LLC is not. I feel bad for these individuals as the company is definitely not deserving of such a great group of people. There are honest people within this organization that actually do care about the success of this company, but there is a huge hole within their management team which is the brunt of their stemming continued issues. The monitoring app provided with Sunpower system installed by Certasun is under performing. The refresh rate of providing solar produced energy data is only 1 or 2 days in a week. The customers are not able to accurately validate if the system is performing well or not. read more
