My wife and I purchased a home in Jersey City, NJ. We decided to hire Certa Pro for a total paint job. They were supposed to prep the entire home, then paint ceilings, walls, closets, kitchen cabinets, baseboards and etc. The total job cost us almost $14,000 I do not recommend. First, Certa Pro subcontracts the jobs. What was told to us by the sales rep, never happened. During prep, the team was to remove all the light fixtures and spackle so we could install new light fixtures. That never happened. They also didn't bother to sand where they spackled. You can see the drywall tape in many places. I kept pointing out flaws. Why did I have to do that and not the foreman on the job site. There was a crew of 3 men. It took over a week to complete the home and I'm still finding issues I now have to correct myself. read more

His people ALWAYS do great work, and not only can you depend on excellent results, they work very fast and cause so little disruption and this was especially appreciated when I was working from home. We decided on hiring them for the job as we felt at ease. We had two bathrooms and a kitchen painted walls/ceilings, doors, trim, radiators. We were in the process of seeking our home. I have used CertaPro a few times and recommended them to my son for his condo. All of the jobs were great. I had them paint my kitchen 2 years ago. There was cracking on the ceiling. ALL BUSINESS IS SUBCONTRACTED OUT TO LOW QUALITY CHEAP PAINTERS. HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE Please check out the websites: Certapropainterscomplaints.com, certa-pro-painters-reviews. I had expensive items stolen from my home!!! Most rooms received one coat of paint! They ruined walls, plaster wasn't smoothed by painted over-leaving bumps or runny plaster in rooms- a terrible eyesore, antique doors are ruined, didn't paint in agreed upon spaces, left paint all over floors and windows, caulked (?) walls. Most importantly owner outright lied to me. Frank, the owner promised his, "best vetted Certapro painters" then stuck a Certapro sign on my lawn. Unknown to me, he hired, "Wilson Painters". Wilson, arrogant -refused to talk to directly to me from day one-ALL communication came in the evening through Frank. Wilson hired the painters-a revolving crew, in and out of my house, unintroduced & clearly with little or NO experience. Expensive items were stolen from my home. I had told Frank I was hiring him over other companies as he ASSURED me I would have a dedicated crew of 3 men who were his, "best painters." He knew at that moment he was subcontracting-He lied. That's Frank. Most of the rooms received one coat of paint-when I questioned the speed- two men painted THREE rooms in THREE and a half HOURS, I was told they were just very efficient and, "not to worry! This was typical!" I was told it was best to move out of the house while bedrooms were painted-I live outside NYC-I paid $500-it wasn't necessary. They painted both rooms (one coat each) in two hours. I'm out that sum as well. I was quoted $10,000 to paint the 1st/2nd floors of my home -a huge sum but I thought I was getting the best. I lovingly restored my 110 yr old home for 17 years and saved up the money for this job. I don't think it was unrealistic to expect a top notch job for that money-it looked like a child did the work and communicating with the painter was impossible-even Frank admitted he was embarrassed by his arrogant behavior. 1) Frank clearly paid them 1/4- to 1/3 of what I agreed to pay so they were only interested in rushing. Frank didn't supervise. Beautiful custom made antique French doors in the living room that came with the house were badly damaged. All restored and ruined in ONE DAY. Can't be repaired. They globed on the paint-it's also all over the windows. These doors were discussed prior to painting-a focal paint in the house. 2) Wilson also DAMAGED WALLS-Wilson doesn't know you should smooth plaster! All surfaces are uneven then received ONE coat of paint on top. There are dribbles of plaster running down the walls in one room (happy to provide pic's). BIG job to repair and then repaint. Who pays for this?? The places we agreed he would plaster-he didn't-just random spots here/there. 3) He used CAULK (?) on the corners of the walls in rooms including the living room. Who uses caulk?? Fwiw, he didn't even bother to blend!! There was NO damage to the wall - no reason to place caulk there. Who caulks walls? Again, the result of an inexperienced painter who was not supervised. To repair the damage-Caulk has to be GAUGED out of the walls, I need to hire someone to re- plaster the walls and repaint. The Walls were fine!! Who will pay for this?? 3) No painters tape was used throughout. No painters lights. There is not an even line in the house and brush lines are evident everywhere. Believe me-that looks awful. They didn't take off switch plates, light plates- the painted on them, around them etc- a $10k job. It looks awesome. They didn't use a paint brush in the corners- Instead, they smushed the rollers down the wall-It's quite a look! And it's in Every. Single. Room. Because you have to clean brushes! I gave them polite twice daily reminders, "Please can you put down a tarp?? Frank would say something-nada. Paint splatters all over the beautiful hardwood floors-I had entirely replaced a few years ago. 4) Window sills- if lucky received ONE COAT, most received only a few strokes of the brush!! Again-Very happy to provide pic's. I paid for them to paint my master walk in closet-Nope! Hoped I wouldn't notice as same color. This is 4 items out of 35 plus. It was a horrible experience-it happened last summer and I was so upset it took all this time to write about it but I want to warn people. We all save money for these jobs. I did not pay the $10k but $4K. Frank refused to do a full walk thru and review the job but said he'd send in painters for 2 days to re-paint and then I'd owe the rest. It clearly would have taken over a week and there was damage-plus there was no address of the stolen items. He said he would contact me after thinking of alternatives but never did. It's impossible to get people in to repair what they did- It's been a nightmare. We've tried to fix what we could and learn to live with it. Incredibly disappointing. I used these folks a few years back and was very happy - so I came back this month. Work was done yesterday at 7pm and this morning I got a call about payment. I told the lady I will look at the paint when I get home from work and make a payment then. 3 hours later I get a hysterical call from my son at home that someone is pounding and ringing at the door for 30 minutes none-stop, it was the certa pro painters crew. He knows not to answer the door when he is alone so he called me. I emailed the owner to complain about the rude and harassing collection methods, not even a day after work had been completed, and received the most rude response I have ever seen, explaining to me how this is my fault. I should have called the police when my son called me. Stay away from these people unless you want to do business with the mob. Unbelievable. I made my payment online and good riddance. read more

I contacted Certapro to paint the inside and outside of my house for around $10,000. The paint on the outside was cracking before the end of the year. I called Frank Mai. He showed up, inspected the paint and saw that it was indeed cracking. But he only spot painted the area. Less than a year later, the paint was cracking again! This time, he repainted the whole house again but the crew he hired was absolutely horrible! They left paint spatters all over my outside banisters. They left wet paint on my lawn. They broke my garden hose holder and stole the garden hose attachment. They left paint chips chips everywhere. And to top it off, they went into my garden shed without permission and left a drop cloth absolutely filled with chipped paint. This was the most horrible experience I have ever had with any contractor. I would absolutely caution you to stay far away from this company. read more

We first contacted CertaPro in November 2015 for an estimate to paint our family room/kitchen/powder room. We dealt with David Sang who came over to look at our project. David was very personable and thorough. He took pictures and gave us a packet of information, which included a checklist of questions to ask if we were getting additional estimates. We were not in a rush to get this project done. Amongst three prices, CertaPro was in the middle. After negotiating with David, CertaPro was willing to do other prepwork, such as removing bathroom accessories that we wanted to replace, that was included in the other prices. We were told the project would take three days. On the scheduled start date, the owner, Frank, came to our house promptly as scheduled at 7:30 am to go over the project one more time. He estimated this as a two or three day project. (In the end, they finished in two days.) We went to work, leaving the painters alone in the house. After the job was done, my wife and I went over the project with a fine-toothed comb. As with most jobs, there were a few minor issues that needed to be fixed. After calling Frank, he returned two days later with the crew to make all the fixes. Overall, a very good experience. read more
