I had to go their with a friend before I realised what this massive building on the corner of the road was. Thankfully now I know. They have a huge range of paint for every occasion - gloss, mat, outside paint, indoor paint - a they can mix up a colour for you. I have a minor phobia of really large stores like B and Q selling this kind of thing as there is always too much to choose from and the tins of paint seem to be piled up to the ceiling. Johnstone's is far easier to manage as it is not so big, its quiet during the week yet they have everything you could possibly need. There is sand paper, brushes, even overalls if you don't want to get your regular clothes covered in paint that will never come out. A wise purchase in my experience.

The building yard however gives you the feeling you are out of your depth if you are just a D.I.Y enthusiast. There is one young guy there that is very helpful, but the rest of the staff look at you like you have just landed from Mars unless you really know what you are talking about. I go to B&Q for my timber even though it's a little more expensive.
