Had an extremely negative experience with Frank Debari. Frank started out helpful for our apartment hunt, but after 2 months of working with him we were unable to find our ideal apartment. As we were working on a time crunch, we were left to search outside of the listings Frank was showing us and found an apartment we signed a lease for. We communicated with Frank that we appreciated his time but would no longer be needing his services because we found another lease. Frank became very angry with us and first expressed his disappointment (understandable since he did work with us previously) but became very unprofessional as he started yelling over the phone. He then told us: "I believe in karma, and I have been doing good to help you find an apartment yet you signed a different lease. Just know that karma is out to get you." We found this language extremely unprofessional and uncomforting. He later sent us a text reminding us how unprofessional we acted and to remember his words about karma. We understand his frustration but there was no place for him to use this harsh and negative language. We did not sign a contract with him saying he was our exclusive agent. Admittedly, there may have been some miscommunication and lack of information on how the housing market in Hoboken worked, but as people coming from out-of-state, we did not know the fine details of apartment hunting in Hoboken and the Hoboken etiquette on searching for other apartment listings. We have already submitted a complaint to Century 21 Corporate and are hoping that Century 21 Hoboken addresses the problem as well. Yes, it is ok to be frustrated and angry with us, no, it is not ok to yell thinly veiled threats at us. read more

I don't hand out 5 stars all willy nilly like, but I think Century 21, more important Rich Basili at Century 21 deserve more than 5 if I had my way. I'll say this, my opinion of real estate, realtors, and anything involved with purchasing a home was not good. Our previous agent from another agency wasn't great, didn't even thank us after the purchase. Barely made time for us to really go look. It was just a bad experience. But, a friend recommended Rich so we gave him a call. Rich came over to our condo and gave us great advice on the selling of our unit and the purchasing of a new one. He was open, honest and I trusted him almost immediately (let it be said I don't trust many easily). He told us what we could truly get for our unit, and walked us through the entire process. They also only take 5% which is pretty reasonable I think as many others take 6%. We sold our unit within 26 days of listing. I was pretty impressed with that. Maybe that isn't the norm for Hoboken but I thought it was really fast. We definitely got more than we paid for it so we came out on top. Rich did everything from start to finish and was just friendly, courteous and just all around a great guy. We had issues from the beginning with our buyer. He was a P.I.T.A. but Rich rocked it out and got us where we needed to be too get the deal done. He recommended a great lawyer, Dan Perlman (fantastic!) and this time it was so much easier. The only stress we had in this process was Wells Fargo, they sucked at life...actually that's being nice. But Rich kept the nerves of everyone down. When it came to buying a new place, again he made so much time for us to go and look at a ton of places until we found what we wanted. He gave us open and honest feedback, what we should pay, what would be too high, too low, etc. And as always, he was spot on. We put in a few offers and were rejected because of our conditions and one because the seller was probably batshit insane. Well, Rich pretty much landed us the apartment we were searching for all along before it went on the market. He told us what to go in at, we did and we nailed it, got it and we were on our way to being happier. He was constantly updating us, letting us know what was on the market and always making us smile when we started to freak out. And we did a lot of freaking out. Rich was professional, courteous and just all around amazing. He was a true gentleman and just honest, which is tough to come by these days. I could write a novel about how great he and Century 21 was, but I won't. The bottom line, if you are looking for a realtor, give Rich Basili a call. Rich Basili served as my real estate agent during a home sale earlier this year, and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking that service. This was my first experience selling a home (a condo in Hoboken), and as such I knew I needed some guidance through what is a complicated process. I interviewed several agents from different firms, including a few who were very aggressive in a way that came off as untrustworthy. Rich was the exact opposite: from the start he came off as very honest, helpful, knowledgeable and trustworthy, and he stayed that way throughout the entire process. Rich started by visiting my place and providing a suggestion for asking price. Based on my online research, he was right on the money. He has worked as an agent in Hoboken & the surrounding area for years, so he was also able to provide a lot of helpful insights on the local real estate market. We were rushed for time - I had accepted a job offer in another state, and was moving / selling on short notice - but that was no problem. Rich was able to accommodate my schedule, and met me at my convenience as often as was needed. Rich formulated a sales plan that worked to perfection. Prior to putting my place on the market, he arranged for a professional photographer to come and take pix of the place (again, this was on short notice, and arranged around my hectic packing schedule). He also put up hundreds of fliers advertising the sale in strategic sites around town, and planned a series of three open houses during the first 3 weeks the place was to be on the market. In the end, though, we only needed one: we put the place up for sale on a Wednesday in mid-January, held the first open house that Saturday, and by Sunday had three offers to choose from (!!). From there Rich advised me how to navigate the rest of the sales process, and we ended up closing about as quickly as we possibly could have (just over 60 days after putting it up for sale). I couldn't have been happier with the price we fetched, and with how Rich handled the entire process. To top it all off, Rich / Century 21 charges a slightly lower commission than some other places (5% vs. 6% elsewhere), and that, combined with how well he handled everything makes me recommend him without hesitation. read more

Do not use Diane Rivera as your agent. She does not show up for the home inspection and encourages you to let a deal die when it can be accomplished. You will have go do all of the leg work yourself including fire inspection certificates, requests to put under contract signs on the building, requests to have signs removed, unresponsive to sending information to lawyers, and any after closing problems. She will be right there for the commission check though telling you "Yay, now I can pay my taxes." read more

Lori Staselis is seriously one of the best decisions you will make in your home buying process. My husband and I were first time homebuyers looking in the downtown JC/Hoboken area. I found Lori through the reviews on Yelp. I'm a former professional investor and Type A to boot, so you better believe I interviewed several agents before selecting one. I spoke to others at Liberty Realty and Redfin among others who were well reviewed. Lori was the clear winner. She was very knowledgeable about the area and an excellent guide for a first time homebuyer. She has been an agent in the area for decades, so she was able to provide backstory on the changes throughout the years as well as color on individual buildings she's seen go up and started selling when they first came on the market years ago. And she will take the initiative and go to bat for you. Our home search easily encompassed 40+ homes over the span of 5+ months. Through it all Lori was patient and never made us feel like we were de-prioritized because we were taking a long time to find the perfect fit. She even went so far as to help us reach out to owners who weren't actively selling who owned units we were particularly interested in. I mean, that's dedication! There were also a handful of properties we really wanted to get in to see as soon as possible, and she pushed as hard as she could to get us first look. I could go on and on (40+ homes gives you a lot of exposure to a person!). She went to a few properties for us and took video for us because in this market being first to make a decision is key and we wanted to get a sense for the fit before we upended our schedules to arrange a viewing. She pulled comps ahead of time for us on a property we suspected we would love. I asked a lot of questions throughout, and she was able to give me both the full factual response as well as an opinion filtered through the lens of pragmatism (for example, what are the potential implications of buying a property with slanted floors in both estimated cost but also risk?). When we finally had an offer stick, she was very proactive about keeping the process moving, making smart suggestions such as trying to pick a morning time for the close as it is less likely other appointments for the various lawyers and parties will run long and push back your closing to another day, to things that weren't even related to a successful close but would just be helpful for you, like a reminder to reach out to the utility company and internet early just so that coverage doesn't lapse and they decide to shut off, then take several days to come back out and reactivate. I was SO grateful for this. I seriously felt like I was pulling teeth with some of my other vendors trying to keep this moving. She was one of the exceptions where I felt like she was providing as much if not more momentum than I was. We just closed on our first condo and I couldn't be happier. I am 100% a fan of Lori and will be recommending her to all my friends and family. read more

Explanation: Century 21 calls itself innovative professional real estate company and I pretty much thought that was true given that have the perfect rating on Yelp. Believing that these reviews were true, I went to Century 21 office last Saturday hoping that my experience will be as great as everyone else here. Boy was I wrong! In fact this has been my WORSE service industry experience till date. We (me and my husband) walked in and we were greeted by the receptionist. She was fine There was only one other person in the office RICHARD BASILI. He is a "professional innovative sales agent" as per Century 21 website. We filled a form and the receptionist said RICHARD BASILI will be helping us. We are interested in buying a house in Jersey City and Hoboken area. We just mentioned a few constraints (like budget, sq feet area) and right in beginning he said no that wouldn't work. We ignored and sat down. He ran the search and showed us a few units. He showed us some area and I asked him "IS THE AREA SAFE?". As a woman that's the first thing which comes to my mind if I am putting down bunch of hundred thousand dollars. His reply "I AM NOT IN A POSITION TO SAY WHETHER A PLACE IS SAFE OR NOT. ITS A CITY". I let that slide and moved on to see other units on his machine. He showed another unit in some area which we weren't sure of and I again asked "Is this area safe...I work and travel". His reply was " BEING JUDGMENTAL IS NOT GOING TO GET YOU ANYWHERE.....WHAT YOU THINK IS SAFE MIGHT NOT BE SAFE or VICE VERSA". After this, he did this (and I still cannot believe it): He said " I AM NOT GOING TO SHOW YOU ANYTHING ANYMORE....I WOULDN'T SERVE YOU". Me and my husband were stunned....and asked "are you serious". He said yes I am serious and got up to leave. I was shocked and told him that he cannot speak like that and I went to the receptionist and she was pretty lost. THE BIG MISTAKE WAS HOW DARE I ASK WHETHER AN AREA IS SAFE. I was flabbergasted at the level of unprofessional behavior I was meted out first hand. He tried to talk to me and I told him to shut up. On which he said "you cannot speak to me like that". I did tell him that "really after how you behaved you expect me to talk nicely to you". Bottom line, if you want to get insulted do visit this agency. Extremely unprofessional possibly sexist or racist. I cannot think of any other reason why a sales agent will behave like this when a woman asks him "is this area safe?" **Update: I received a call from Jessica from the office (not the owner/manager) who did say sorry but basically said Richard was stating the law. I don't think she understands that "speaking rudely isn't the law". If you read the review at no point did Richard "say I am sorry I cannot comment on it as its against the NJ law"...he said "I will not server you...don't be judgmental...". Its extremely sad to see her comment "that he is a great broker" rather than being considerate. On the call I asked her how do you qualify Richard's behavior to which she had no reply other than just take the review off. As i said as per BBB complaints I should receive a proper apology from Richard which I haven't so I am still going to lodge the complain** read more

Allow me to take a moment to gush about Marge Crimmons. My husband and I met Marge while shopping for a new home. We walked into a local open house, just browsing, really. Marge was so welcoming and warm. It turned out we weren't interested in that particular home, but it didn't phase Marge in the least. As home shoppers, we quickly found out that the industry is filled with yes-men and suck-ups, BUT Marge struck us as the most genuine and sincere person we met during our home search. Over the next couple of weeks Marge contacted us to show us other properties that were very close to what we were looking for. As things turned out, we had an opportunity to purchase a home that had not yet even been listed on the market. Being that we had never bought a home before, we felt that we needed an agent or at least somebody who knew the ins and outs of the real estate trade. So, of course, it was a no-brainer to contact Marge to see if we could enlist her for the home purchase. Marge, proving what an honest and sincere person she is, explained to us that since we were already in the good graces of the seller, all we really needed was a good attorney. She could have easily gotten us to sign a contract, but she didn't. She then proceeded to give us the contact info for a terrific local attorney. I'd just like to add that all while giving us this information she was so sweet. Even though we were clearly not going to be clients, she took the time to walk us through the process and set us at ease. A slight bidding war ensued, and throughout the process Marge continued to reach out to see how things were going. How nice is that? I'm proud to say that now, several months later, after dealing with the whole mortgage process, we now own a terrific home in Jersey City. Although technically Marge wasn't involved in the process of buying our home, and not earning a penny off of the transaction, we credit her with giving us the confidence to get out there make it happen. We have had the good fortune of running into her in the neighborhood and she has been just as sweet as always. I can't possibly say enough nice things about her. Ask for Marge Crimmons. We've used other realtors in the past but Marge is a rare find. She is smart, friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely talented. Marge came from a recommendation from the broker who helped us buy our house (this broker is a buyers agent and highly recommended Marge). Marge came to our home, helped us figure out a timeline, helped us figure out how to stage the home, and what work to do with a contractor to help it best shine. We followed her recommendations exactly and we sold our house in 8 days with 2 offers. We didn't even reach having a open house as it sold so quickly. We did our part of making the house look immaculate and she did her part of getting people in the door, coordinating with other brokers to get us the best possible price, and all the other behind the scenes stuff. She was always available to us when we were stressed providing support and solutions. She truly goes above and beyond- including dealing with issues from the contractor working on our home, to assisting a different client re-home a pet. If we were still in NJ I would never use another agent. 5 stars is not enough to rate Marge as she broke the rating system as she's so amazing. read more
