After 2 min there is a end of the road where you can leave a car (make sure you don't block any other car) and proceed on foot 100 feet, from where you start 30 min decent to the absolute paradise. Please wear closed toe shoes, rocks and dirt are going to be moving under your feet, and we've met few people in flip flops that were taking forever and were blocking everyone behind them. Now to the beach itself.. absolutely stunning, on the day we were there waves were too strong for swimming, but great for photos. If you have kids, pay attention, people could be taking naked photos (if that bothers you) all over the beach and cliffs. Do walk around, there is a small waterfall to the right, and a beach with smaller rocks to the left. We stayed for a good hour and had some sandwiches we purchased at the Cabo da Roca restaurant. There are many destinations within the park as follows: 1) Sintra Town - This whole area is a Unesco site that includes the town and the the mountain area of Serra de Sintra. 2) Cabo da Roca - this is the westernmost point on Mainland Europe with with cliffs and coastline. 3) Pena Palace - This is one of the most famous buildings in Portugal. It is a Romanticist caste that stands on the top of a hill in the Sinta Mountains. It is one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. Many kings of Portugal lived there. 4) National Palace of Sintra - This is the best preserved medieval royal palace in Portugal. It was inhabited for eight centuries by the Portuguese monarchy. 5) Monserrate Palace - This is one of the most beautiful mansions in Sintra. It blends Arabic, gothic and Indian architectural styles with beautiful surrounding gardens. 6) Castle of the Moors - This is a medieval castle locate on a hilltop below Pena Palace. It was constructed during the 8th and 9th centuries during the period of Muslim Iberia. 7) Praia da Adraga Beach - This is one of the best beaches in Portugal. A panoramic view of the city…read more A different musician plays during the daytime. It seems well organized: at 11:30, another one comes to replace, with his own guitar and emplifer. Some plays bussa nova, some plays folk songs. I come here every morning in Lisbon to watch the sunrise while sipping my tea. This small spot is right in front of my hotel. In the afternoon and during sunset, the city below is painted with different scenes that enchant me all day long. To the left, there's a cafe, and on the right, there's a view of Tagus River. That…read moreis probably my first mistake. :) I'll start with the "Know Before You Go" (somewhat negatives): - There is no Welcome Center - There is no English-language information available - There are only a few pull-off places and many have DEEP pot holes, watch out - In the summer, the loop road becomes, partially, one-way (check out the map) - If you're going to Portinho da Arrabida, it is 1,5EUR to park far away and 3EUR to park closer To the positives: - Getting into the park is free - The park is gorgeous - The beaches are lovely - It's only about an hour from Lisbon and is the only unsettled land I saw while in Portugal If you want to see beautiful coastline, this is a great place to do it. There's also a convent there (I couldn't find any information about it), which is beautiful to photograph (from afar). I've included a map with details about the one-way road situation. Hopefully this will save you some heartburn--and a problem with the law. :) I ended up getting help from a nice man I saw hiking. He directed me to Sesimbra, which was about 35 minutes away. It was a good suggestion. I wrote a review for the beach there which you should check out (Praia da Califórnia: http://www.yelp.com/biz/praia-da-calif%C3%B3rnia-sesimbra?hrid=3Hg0ianYc40NsXBqPdQ3kQ). I did see what appeared to be parking areas for hikes/trails. I was unable to find any sure information about them though. Because I was traveling solo, I opted for caution and didn't give it ago.

They have an amazing natural rock formation that forms a huge arch you can walkthrough. Also in that formation are small caves (really, REALLY small) that you can venture through if you dare to a super truly secret beach on the other side. This beach is also accessable if the tide is low enough I'm told (also, it's an apparent nude beach; as you can imagine I was devastated to arrive at high tide). There's a small bar and restaurant if you're hungry or in need of a beer, and a place to rinse all the sand off when you're ready to head out. If you're in the area, this is a perfect place for a hike or beach day, you won't regret stopping by.
