The staff here are very professional and dedicated to healing the whole person in their care. I have known people who have received outpatient and residential care. I have met many of the staff from company executives to therapists to assistants to drivers. All well trained and caring for the patient in the role they have. I would gladly recommend CNS for any TBI or other ABI injuries. read more

I worked here for 3 years and I can confirm that the one star review is accurate. I got fired for being late and had to be forced to apply for unemployment, which I got approved. I would work overtime many times because they were short staffed, but they didn't appreciate you. We used to have a 5 minute grace period, but then it changed to 10 minutes for clocking in but I was still getting written up when I was 5 mins late and when fired they said oh well you have been late other times. I asked for the clock in times of all the times they had written me up because they were being shady! I was told I couldn't see the times because I was no longer an employee. Just some shady people. The previous manager Brittany seemed more caring and understanding of peoples situations, but all changed when Diedra was transferred there for manager. I had been late for being robbed one day, but they don't care. The last year I worked there especially the last 6 months my senior dog was extremely sick and had kidney failure , but it's just a dog right ?! NO to some they are our kids. I am also vegetarian and they knew this but anytime they had food for us well they just happen to always forget some people don't eat meat ! They act like they care, but most there really do not! There are some good workers there and some people actually do care about the people and I was one of them. Most are there just for the paycheck and I have reported a lot of issues that was swept under the rug. In the last year I was there I had one patient pretty much that I was assigned to watch and I grew to really care for her. She is a senior and family out of state. Patient wanted to do things that was not always in group settings and I asked the manager of one day I could take her to eat or the movies and they approved it. After I took her out they pulled me aside saying not to put stuff and ideas in patients head. I was like I'm not she is lonely and bored and so I offered. They said we can't be playing family to these patients and I said but she has no one to visit her that live close. They then said well basically that's not their problem if patients do not get visitors. Then they tell me it's about liability. If something happen while we was out we be responsible! I told them aren't we responsible for them either way???? It just didn't add up. Then they told me well you can take her out once in a blue. Ridiculous! This lady was paralyzed, but she had her mind and knew what she wanted. This particular patient had stuff stolen before but no one ever really did anything. I also would complain because my patients toenails were getting long and getting caught in the socks etc. they got so long and I told everyone. I told the nurses, supervisors and other workers. A month went by and NOTHING! Big toe was having piss due to ingrown nail, so I bought some nail clippers and cut them. When I told them I cut the nails they were upset and said only nurses do that. I told them I told the nurse and the nurse said we do it. And when I told the supervisor they told me NO the nurses do it! So basically your loved ones nails will not be clipped by staff unless you get a caring person like me. I'm pretty sure her nails are long right now! Staff also go shopping g for the patients and half the time don't even get the right items. The only time they really act like they care is if you have money, family members always visiting or if something happens while in our care, but the day to day no they don't care. This is how crappy these people are. For Thanksgiving I had called and signed up to visit this patient, because I knew she would have no one. I had bought her a pie and the day before they called me and left a message saying I can't visit at this time and to call her phone. Why can't I see her if she wants me to visit. I didn't get fired for something awful. If your family member is here pay close attention to EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. This facility could be so much better and the patients could be happier and less stressed if management actually cared or listen. I would say 75 percent of the staff really do not care because I have seen it with my own eyes. This is only at the residential in Irving. There is another facility called Pate in Irving that is similar to CNS. I am not sure how things are, but definitely do your research. I highly recommend you putting a camera in your loved one's room, because people steal and are very rude to patients. I know some employees at patients food without even asking. I knew what my patient ate and drank and I would notice for example her can sodas would be getting low and this lady did not drink them like that. I reported it, but yeah.... I would give one star rating, but I know some of the employees there truly care, but it seems like they fire the ones who care and keep the crappy staff. Just pay attention and visit often and you'll see. Please be present and if something isn't right SPEAK up LOUD and CLEAR.... read more

Most staff at the residence are highly dedicated, a few others can at times seem stressed or combative dealing with some patients. It could be the stress or training, but in brain injury patients and their loved ones are working through a great deal. Search around and compare prior to placing loved ones in care at any facility if possible. This may be difficult without prior experience or knowledge of brain injuries. Try visiting places or perhaps checking with your insurance company for information, referrals or options. One should be treated in a espectful manner which promotes healing. The programs at the clinic help with the healing process. The clinic staff, therapists, leaders, and the caregivers who assist the patients seem very committed to patient recovery. I entered at the suggestion of a hospital referral which may be the case for many. It is difficult to research options while in the midst of recovery options, but if at all possible compare programs, facilities, and options. read more

My friend from High School was in a terrible motorcycle accident and suffered a devastating brain injury, (initially the hospital had little hope for recovery). He is now living on his own with minimal assistance. This would not have been possible had it not been for the staff at CNS. God and Center for Neuro Skills (CNS) saved my life! I suffered a life threatening acquired brain injury 2-years ago today. The virus had infiltrated my brain and my immune system was fighting it off. As a result, it was killing the Lymbic area of my brain. The doctors told my dear Wife to look into long-term care. I literally couldn't suck out of a straw. They tried a last-ditch medical procedure to restore my health and thank God it worked, Now it was time for rehab. Early-on I began to improve at CNS, They immersed me in rehab 8-hour per day, 5-days per week. My brain literally hurt. At the time, I thought it was awful and I hated them all. As I progressed, I realized that the therapist's knew what they were doing and they were there to put my life back together. It's 2-years later and I'm working part-time and actually consider it a continuation of my therapy. Without CNS, The outcome would have been less than successful. read more

My aunt was in the DFW inpatient program for 7 months. She was very happy. She did therapy and then stayed in a beautiful apartment where more staff helped her become independent. Of course she wanted to be at home but since she couldn't be this was the best place we could have hoped for. It was her home away from home. The clinic was nice. The therapists were kind and knowledgeable. The apartment staff were compassionate and were there to make sure she was getting back to her life of independence. They helped her become involved in activities and had things planned daily. They understood brain injury. Our family is grateful that CNS was there. We would refer the CNS inpatient program to everyone. Thank you. read more

My wife was entered into the therapy program at the Irving, TX facility in December of 2017. She did use inpatient services and stayed at the assisted living quarters for about half the time she was there; the other half was outpatient services three times a week. She discharged from the program recently and while it was a bittersweet moment to have to leave the program, it proved to be a big help to her quality of life. Mostly all of the staff we experienced was pleasant, helpful, and treated my wife with the utmost care. For each experience, I was there a majority of the time to learn a bit about the types of therapy she received. I also got a chance to learn the behaviors and personalities of the therapists, nursing staff, and management. Much of what you read in a review about nursing centers, hospitals, and rehab centers, is fairly true. When you are admitting your loved one into a facility like this, it is imperative that you review the facility prior to them going there. It's also important to learn about the processes before and during treatment so that you have a good understanding of the type of care your loved one will receive. If something does not seem right or you have a suggestion about something that is taking place, reach out to management so that they are aware of what is taking place, because there are times that they are so overwhelmed with work that they cannot handle every issue. Moreover, for the amount of work that many of the staff members have to endure, they should be fairly compensated. This fact also translates over to the skilled nursing centers. In addition, there can also be times where things seem unorganized and that could be attributed to staffing versus volume. But, for the staff on board, they made the most of a great experience for my wife. I recommend Centre For Neuro Skills to anyone who has suffered a traumatic brain injury. But, please be advised that it is necessary to do your homework prior to leaving your loved ones there, and to be as interactive with the staff as possible. read more

The more I read about brain injury, the further away this program is from meeting the needs. They simply are not current. The residential experience my daughter had continues to give her nightmares and the incorrect information she was told during the clinic day program continues to undermine her confidence. This review is based on the inpatient apartment living. Well it is pretty horrible. Mom had a stroke and luckily she is getting better. But she hated it there. So the apartment is like being inpatient at a hospital. Every morning they herded her into the bus to go to your therapy. It's supposed to be like a home setting. You can bring anything from home. For every two people there is a caregiver to watch them all the time. Welp that the way its suppose to be. Often they were short staffed and had the poor things watching 4 or more people. With no breaks. Some are poorly trained and don't do enough to help including supervisors. Then there is like fire drills every week. It's so annoying. Some patients are dangerous and shouldn't be there. DON'T shake anyone's hand, Trust me. They give patients an allowance for groceries and outings (make sure to use it all IT'S YOUR MONEY ), and they buy the wrong things. And you have to label everything if you don't they throw it away (instead of using common sense). Some days she wasn't giving her medication. One lady there was given the wrong medication and had to go to the ER. They milk your insurance with stuff like sleep studies and stuff you don't necessarily need yet or at all. Please if your loved one stays here check on them a lot. We visited her nearly everyday and found out what it's really like. Don't be afraid to complain. Inpatient option maybe too stressful for your loved one and hinder their progress to get better. But you may not have a choice. COMPLAIN ,COMPLAIN.COMPLAIN ( we got the stink eye from a lot of staff) If you feel like no one is listening there or helping try an ombudsman or file a complaint form. They are on the wall next to where you check in at the office. Keep on fighting for outpatient.They are some excellent hard workers who genuinely care about humanity, there doing there best. If you are lucky enough to get one offer some food some get no breaks they are not paid enough. It's the system that sucks. I have some specific examples of the crappiness of this place that impacted my mom directly I may want to share in the future. But for now I am glad mom is Out-patient and doesn't have to deal with the extra stress. This is a hard time in your life and I pray for things to get better for you in yours. read more

My nephew was sent to the Centre For Neuro Skills after an accident to where he fell out of the back of the pickup. He, and the family, were treated with respect and the family's input was greatly appreciated and listened to. Not only did they care for his every need, but they also took care of the family and listened to their needs and expectations for when my nephew was released. After being inpatient for 2 months, he was given the opportunity to relearn expectations of how to act and live once he was released from the Center. He likes to cook, so when they went grocery shopping, he was able to buy food that he wanted to make for the staff. That was his way of saying "thank you" to them. My nephew became more than friends with his roommate, they were like family to each other for those 2 months. He has been out of the Centre for a year or so now and he continues to tell his friends, and family, how friendly and concerned the residential staff were the 2 months he was there. I would definitely recommend the Center For Neuro Skills for any family that needs help with a traumatic brain injury. They definitely saved our family!! read more

My son was in this facility about 2 1/2 years after his brain injury. The staff at the therapy center were knowledgeable and very helpful to my son and I. They answered all my questions as much as possible and helped me contact other physicians and organizations that could assist us when my son was ready for dismissal in order for him to have the most success. They Counseled him, encouraged him and helped him make progress in all areas of deficits. They listened to my input from my observations and used it in developing my son's program also. We both feel like we made many friends there who really cared about my son! At the residential facility things could use some cohesiveness. The left hand never seemed to know what the right hand was doing but the staff seemed to be friendly and helpful for the most part. I think that somehow the therapy center and the residential center need to be meshed for a more cohesive program! MORE COMMUNICATION between the two. They actually feel like they are two different facilities and programs the way they are now. With all that said this facility was an answer to our prayers for getting the help my son needed and so many people out there need this type of help but don't know about it! This is the residence for brain injury patients enrolled in the rehabilitation clinic of the same name. My husband was wheelchair bound after a severe stroke -- completely helpless. The clinic was wonderful but the residence was a disaster. The staff was poorly trained. 1) The assisted showers became a nightmare for him. Three separate times he slid on the wet floor and almost fell. He came to the point that he declined a shower if a new aide was assigned to him. 2) The night staff ignored his requests for help. They were known to turn off the intercom, refuse pleas for pain meds and refuse to help him to the toilet for a BM. Several times he had BMs in his pants and they took too long to clean him up, once handing him wipes and telling him to clean himself. 3) One aide pulled on his left arm (he had left neglect from the stroke) and sprained his shoulder. Three months later this injury still is painful. 4) He had trouble voiding so wore a catheter. The night staff often failed to empty his urine bag so it would back up into his bladder causing pain, and eventually a urinary tract infection that went septic. 5) The nurses sometimes failed to record when he had his pain meds, then refused him another pill when it was time. A lot of unnecessary pain for him because of their forgetfulness. 6) Five times we requested management not assign Kendra to him as she was the worst of the night staff. They continued to put her in his room, and things got progressively worse. 7) Going through correct channels to file complaints, the residential treatment manager continued to claim all the problems were in my husband's head even after family members witnessed the events and some of the staff wrote them in their daily reports. 8) Most shift supervisors never saw the complaints to correct the problem or to retrain aides. 9) Management failed to respond to filed complaints although required by their licensing agencies to send a written response with two days. read more
