Well we were really looking forward to trying this place. We ordered the special nachos and a shake to split. The nachos were ridiculously large. But the amazement ends with the size. The nachos really were not good. There was minimal cheese and it felt like there was just a hedge posher of ingredients added to these. We had about 6 nacho chips a person and decided it want worth it so we stopped eating... The shake had the most incredible whipped cream. And the toppings were great. The shake itself was nothing special but the toppings take it over the top! Not sure I will rushing back. The place was not full however the hostess had to bus a table for us as all the tables were dirty. The entire time we were there no one even tried to clean any of the dirty tables... they were not busy so I can't image why no one had time to clear the filth...very sad and disappointed. read more

Stopped in yesterday for a bite to eat. This was my second time. The first time I had a burger which was great. It wasn't the best burger of my life, but not the worst either. Last night I had the Korean Tacos and boyfriend had the chicken tacos. He said his were very good. Mine were pretty good, good enough that I enjoyed them, but maybe not good enough that I'll order them again. I was also a little sad with the teeny amount of salsa that came with the chips. The portions are huge, but pricey. We didn't even get a beer, just one soda and two meals and without tip it was $31. The food was good and the service great, but I will probably never return. There was a credit card fee of $3, and I don't recall seeing it posted any place prior to ordering. Our bill was $80 - I don't know if the fee is "standard" or higher/lower, depending on the amount spent. Sadly, I took the fee off of the tip to the server, who was very nice. Central Standard is the new Standard for DSM. Trendy and modern interior and a great covered outdoor patio. Stopped in for a late lunch, plenty of seating and we felt more than comfortable with the safety/cleanliness protocols. Diverse menu with something for everyone whether you want a light meal or to indulge in some decadence. Execution is their strong suit. Will definitely come back to try more. Kate had too much water and Matt had way too much water. Matt finished his water very quickly and it took 2-3 minutes from finishing the glass until the waitress brought him a new glass (COVID). I have eaten here 3 times now and ordered something different every time. Everything has been great thus far. Homemade food not frozen. It has a large bar area and a good atmosphere. Casual enough for families but nice enough for a fun night out with friends. A good covered outside seating area as well. My favorite foods there are the mahi tacos, and grilled salmon. We're always eager to try new places "on the Waukee side of West Des Moines" as the local car dealer says. There aren't too many quality restaurants in Waukee, but the number is growing. This is a good addition. Apparently the owners of this place have a brewery/restaurant in eastern Iowa and decided to open a restaurant in DM, so they're got some experience. It's in a nice new strip mall, and has a cool covered patio that would be a great spot on a nice summer evening. The restaurant itself is one big room with a long bar along one wall. It's decorated eclectically with some funky furniture in the dining area. There are TV's all around but they're mostly for ambiance and it's not really a sports bar per se. There's a nice buzz to the place as a result, mostly with 20 and 30-somethings drinking but a few families. The menu is a bit interesting with a bunch of hamburgers, some Mexican and other bar-type dishes. My wife is a big fan of their honey-soy glazed salmon which she claims is one of the best she's had (and is the most pricey item on the menu). I think their menu is a bit limited if you don't want a hamburger, but worth a try. They do have a menu of liquor-enhanced milkshakes too if that's your thing. Of course there's beer. Many varieties including their own plus a lot of other local brews. Service was about what you'd expect in a place like this, but it's all pretty good. Central Standard tries to be a notch above typical bar fare, and they succeed. All for about $50 for a basic dinner and drink for two. Might be best to try it first for a drink and appetizer or two to get a feel for the place, but dinner is worth a try too. read more

Wow, was this place good! The drinks were tasty. Waitress helpful. Nachos so big, we didn't need a main course. But we got the parmesan boneless wings and beer battered cheese curds. Came here with my wife and then with some co workers and enjoyed both occasions. The place is nice decorated and the staff was polite. Had their cheese curds and one of their fire and smoke burger. Both were pretty tasty. The cheese curds were a little too greasy but I guess that adds some extra flavor ;) They have some good beer options so that's a plus. One of my coworkers got their shake and said it was good. I just couldn't see myself pay more than $5 for a shake. I also thought the shake would've been larger for the price. In the end it's a nice addition to the Waukee area so I'll go back to try some of their other items. read more

We tried this for our birthday yesterday and it was amazing! Food was so good and unique. I had the pub burger and loved it! I typically try to keep my burgers simple and don't like a ton of weird toppings but this was so good! Also the shakes were amazing! We told them it was our birthday (my twin and I) and they brought sparklers with our shakes. The only thing was the seating. It was super cute in there, a little too dark, but still cute. The only thing wrong was the "U" booth, if you get seated there this is a chance you will be uncomfortable. It fit 4 people but it was just awkward. I also had a PubPass, witch is the main reason I wanted to try the place out. When I showed our server my PubPass, at no falt of there's, Inwas told there was only 4 beers I could get with it. My question is if a business is going to participate in a program to purmot there business qhy would they limit the choice to only 4 beers. I just spent 120 bucks on a custom frozen patty the size of a Big Mac patty. All our food was dead and dried out. The food was great, but the service was terrible. There were three of us for lunch on Saturday (1/9/21), and it was busy, but not overly busy. Steady, is probably a better description. Our waitress simply disappeared once our food was brought out. One of my companions needed a refill on her beverage, and we were forced to ask a passing employee, who turned out to be the hostess. She was clearly annoyed, as she rolled her eyes and thunked the glass down onto the table. We had to flag our waitress down again for refills, and then for the check. This is actually the fourth time I've been to Central Standard, and the service has been consistently bad. The first time was shortly after it opened, but I thought I'd give it another shot because it was new. The second and third times were well after it opened -- maybe nine months and then a year? Plenty of time to work out the kinks. The service was still terrible---wait staff drops your food off and then disappears. I thought I'd give them another shot last Saturday, but at this point, terrible service is a consistent pattern. It's also not as if I expect much, either. I understand wanting to keep your distance with Covid, especially working as a waitress where your job is to deal with the public all day long, but it'd be nice not to have to flag someone down for refills each time.
