Dear Dr Ruiz & Staff, You have been taking care of all the animals Michele and I rescue. Mostly Senior, FIV, FLV, or autistic cats. During the 20+ years we have been with CPAH, we have received above & beyond treatment from all the staff. I know Dr Ruiz may retire soon; I am happy for her but sad at the same time. She is a great Vet and really takes great care of the animals in her charge. My sister and her husband have also been taking their cats to her for decades as well. The staff and front desk personnel always go the extra mile to make sure you have what you need to do our part at home for aftercare. Overall this place is good, you can trust them to take care of your animal. The only concerning thing was the lady showed us the bill she quoted us for and then when I went to check out at the front it was $50-70 higher than what she quoted us. Always double check and ask questions... we got our dogs vaccines here and anal gland expression, and they are knowledgeable and nice. Vets are always expensive though. Not sure if it was just our dog being prone to having them, but after we got her anal glands expressed she still had the fishy tuna smell like 2 weeks later. So not sure if it was cause they weren't fully expressed, or if our girl is prone to them. They made our dog feel safe tho and was treated well and respectfully. read more

I absolutely love this vet. Dr. Ruiz and her staff are incredible. When we adopted our pair of pups from the animal shelter Central Phx Animal Hospital has taken care of them as they have grown. The staff is so pleasant and accommodating. You can tell they love what they do. When we had no choice but to put our 13-year-old Scottie to sleep, I was devastated. In the past we have gone to three animal clinics in Phoenix, and Central Animal Hospital is our top, and only choice hands down. We have been going here for 6 years. It is important to me that over time, my vet gets to know my animal, besides help from a chart. We walk in for our appointment and the doctor says hi to me, and my dog, by name. This makes me feel like we are more than just a dollar bill. That is very important to me. The gals who manage/work in the office are also top notch. Paula is the office manager, and deserves great praise as well. She is friendly, polite, organized and always comes thru whether it is calling you back or placing a special order for dog food. The nail technicians are friendly, gentle and do a great job. The clinic is clean and always stocked with my animals food, which is a great convenience. Don't listen to the negative reviews. I absolutely love Dr. Ruiz and her staff. I was lucky they accepted me as a new patient in 2020. Dr. Ruiz helped talk me through my dogs cancer last year. It's not really a hospital in the sense that if you have an emergency you can go there. They do not accept new patients.

TRANSLATION: I told him as long as I got my 4 1/2 squares a day, a soft bed, and no baths -- EVER, I'd hang tough. Besides, that bump just meant more of me to love... and who wouldn't want that? I have never BEEN to Central Phoenix Animal Hospital, but I have called them MANY times for kitty emergency questions, and even though they didn't know my name, or my cats, or get one dime from me, they always were extremely nice and beyond patient. Now I have a puppy, and his previous owner took him here for his shots. I've once again had to call them for questions regarding the shots and Puck's health and needs, and again, they've been nice as could be. When it's time for his next checkup (and my cats) there is no way I'll take them anywhere else. Because who's a precious baby? Who is? My wittle sweet babies are! Yes they are! Dr. Ruiz and all of the staff make everyone comfortable...one of my dogs is quite large, so many people are afraid of him. He was mistreated before being adopted into our family. He is quite timid and nervous around people because of this bad treatment. He was afraid as soon as we walked in the door today, and everyone went out of their way to help him adjust. He has never had an accident and was so nervous that he peed all over my sneakers and the exam room. Instead of being upset or annoyed Dr. Ruiz helped to calm him and make him relax. I was amazed that the cost was so low when we checked out. Two prescriptions, examination and all shots for under $150. They also helped find out who his chip was with so we could update the information on the chip. This is the place to bring furry family members in Central Phoenix. read more

I've gone to the Central Phoenix Animal Hospital for years with numerous pets. They are the very best at customer service and caring for your pet. One time the doctor was not in town, I didn't know her temporary replacement doctor and I went to one closer in North Scottsdale. Oh yeah, was the new place modern and bright? Yes. Did they run completely unnecessary tests and charge me hundreds? You bet they did. Of course the tests were all negative. I guess you know who is paying for that fancy-schmancy place. So back to Dr. Ruiz and Veronica. Just an infection, some pills, a very small bill and viola! He's well. Like I said folks, it's been years of going there, several times putting my animals down from old age (one couldn't get up and was completely deaf) and they were so completely supportive. Honest, they don't run the expensive, unnecessary tests... have you ever paid for that valley fever test? She tests when she needs to but she always takes the most obvious, least expensive step first. Thanks guys, for years of awesome service. read more

Nothing but positive, excellent experiences here! The staff is so friendly and helpful, and Dr. Ruiz is just great. A couple years ago I took a three month business trip to Mexico and wanted to take my dog with me. I was able to get the exam appointments, and then a follow up appointment within three days of my trip (per MX requirements), and Dr. Ruiz filled out all the paperwork and translated it into Spanish for me. I had no problems at all importing my dog through the Mexico City airport. I've been bringing both of my dogs (Chug and St. Bernard) to Dr. Ruiz ever since. When my Saint, Lola, started developing a huge tumor, Dr. Ruiz was so gentle and calm and ran some tests on it, determining that it was just a fatty tumor (relief!!!). They've always been very careful about not over-testing and the fees are really affordable. Love this place! read more

Allow me to be frank: my cats are obese. People send cell phone pictures of them splayed belly-up on my living room rug to their friends for a good chuckle. (Poor things. I'm sure it's genetic.) Central Phoenix Animal Hospital helps me to treat the, er, specific ailments that go along with having fat pets without mocking or scolding me. (I'll spare everyone the details here.) Just moved to the area with my family of furry and feathered babies. I hadn't really focused on finding a vet. Bad mommy. Then my poor cat had some weird rash on ALL 4 of her paws. She is indoors only and really hates the car so going to the vet is very stressful for both of us as well as some of the people who could hear her yowling at volume 10 when we were stopped at traffic lights. Anyhow, the facility is very easy to get to and surprisingly had a reasonable amount of parking. It's an older facility but is very clean. Staff was nice. I was shown into the exam room promptly, which helped my cat's stress level a lot, and Dr. Ruiz was right on time. I am punctual so I appreciate it when Drs are as well. She was nice and very gentle with my cat. My baby let her examine her, look at her paws and even shave some of the mats in her fur off. Don't judge,LOL, it's common for her breed and we struggle with it even with regular grooming. We discussed the issue with her paws and much to my surprise she felt it was an allergic reaction vs autoimmune and didn't run a ton of tests thus running my bill up to a mortgage payment! She simply said, keep an eye out, if it happens again, get her back in and we will go from there. I will definitely use this vet again for my 17 yr old dog. One caveat to keep in mind, Dr Ruiz is THE ONLY VET so in emergencies or last minute visits you may not be able to get in when you want or need to. . read more

I went to this vet for a few years. They seemed fine when my pet was rather healthy, but as she got older, she seemed to get odd diagnosis. I continued with their prescription treatments for a week, but my pet didn't get any better, so like any good "mom", I got a second opinion elsewhere. It was a night and day difference!! Central Phoenix Animal Hospital had said my pet had a parasite, something that is diagnosed with a easy test...the new vet did the same test and said "NO WAY!!" My pet ACTUALLY had hyper thyroidism, not a parasite. (my pet NEVER goes outside, so I thought it was weird that he would get a parasite). After 7 days on the proper medication, my pet was healthy and back to normal. This vet also misdiagnosed another issue my pet had...like REALLY MISdiagnosed her (saying she broke a bone...SHE DIDN'T!!!). I felt sick about it. I also didn't like the way they handled my pet when she was injured...I know they want to protect themselves, but they were REALLY rough with her (I offered to help, but they just manhandled her instead.) If you have an adorable little healthy puppy or healthy kitty, they're fine. They're actually pretty nice usually and I know they probably help out a lot of people who don't have much money (I saw a few instances of people not having a lot of money and they'd work with them), but, if you really need GOOD vet care, I'd go somewhere else. Oh yeah...the last time I was in there, they were joking around in the lobby and two women came out of one of the examine rooms, obviously upset, crying, etc. It was obvious that they just had to put their animal down. No one stopped joking and laughing...they just yucked it up while these two women fought back sobbing...it was so sad. I wanted to give these two strangers a hug and kind word and then slap the employees for being so cold and insensitive. Inappropriate. read more

Over the past couple of years, things have not been going so well with customer service (the guy behind the counter always acts as if he could care less about you or your pet) or cleanliness of the business. I've also had trouble with them stocking my pet food that they prescribed. I hate to see any business go downhill, so I am hoping that things turn around here.
