Recently, I discovered the front of my house was subsiding due to soil compaction. Long cracks in the mortar between bricks on my front porch appeared followed by cracks in my unfinished basement floor and more cracking and spreading of the mortar between the basement cinderblock walls. I had multiple potential contractors survey the damage and Groundworks easily rose to the top of the list. Mitch W. (Site Surveyor) came to the house at the appointed time and using his years of experience, plus multiple highly accurate laser measurements, determined the problem and recommended a viable solution at a reasonable cost. He took time to share what he was doing, why he was doing it, and what the results meant. He inspired confidence with his knowledge, experience, and friendly style. He ensured we were informed consumers so we could make the best decision regarding our house. Mitch never pressed a 'hard sell,' (some other potential contractors did) preferring to find the best solution to our problem at a competitive price. While not the least expensive of the quotes received, Groundworks was clearly the best value, my preferred measurement when about to expend a large sum of money for something. The crew (Bryan L., Harry M., James V., Stephen R., and Calvin H.) all arrived on time each day, ready to work. They quickly began the job on day one and completed it in less that the estimated time, leaving the site clean and ready for use. This included not only cleaning the basement but also any areas on the first floor and garage where they trafficked with equipment and material. This was a difficult job that they performed with professionalism and a determination to please my wife and I with the result. In the end, I was very pleased with the job and glad we had chosen Groundworks. The solution consisted of a perimeter drain and two sets of sump pumps, one battery operated for back-up, at opposite corners of the basement. The installation personnel were very professional and worked extremely hard. The system was installed in 3 days as promised. Recently we had a significant storm which dumped 6-9" of water in less than 3 hours. The basement was completely dry after the storm.
