After we had settled on a plan (the Gabriel plan), I was impressed that one of the owners of Brookside came to the site himself to discuss with us the placement of the building and offered suggestions and resources that only someone with a great deal of experience--and local experience--would have been able to provide. Our property is heavily wooded and on an unpaved road in the country. Brookside was able to accommodate our location and assist us with everything we needed for a smooth build. We were living in California and working with the Brookside team primarily remotely. Our sales consultant/CAD designer, Joshua, was extraordinary to work with. His patience and expertise with the design changes, suggestions/recommendations and knowledge of the process was invaluable to us. This was the first home that we had built (although we were simultaneously involved with building an additional dwelling unit at our California property that took the same amount of time to build but should have been a much smaller project) and Josh made the process seamless. As with any building process (I am experienced in senior housing development), there were glitches along the way. We caught a couple issues during visits to the site which were immediately corrected. We also wanted a few changes after we saw the building taking shape which were also accommodated--some with a change fee, others not. For me, not being able to see a model home of the plan we chose (or other plans) was a bit of a negative. After the home was built it did not seem as large as I had pictured it and we wished had built a larger home: this was no fault of the builder, of course--just a suggestion for consideration when choosing a plan. The large variety of plans that Brookside offers and their ability to modify and customize the plans was a huge selling point for us. Our Brookside home is exceptionally well built and gives us great peace of mind that we will enjoy the home for many years to come. Our experience with Brookside has been excellent and they have proved to be a builder of integrity and value.

After reading reviews and seeing pictures of the work we made the call and Mike came out to the house to talk about our vision a.k.a. garage. He listened to our wants as well as our budget and came back with an agreeable quote and picture. Mike kept us informed along the way with what was to be done and when. His subcontractors were skilled and professional. Our garage came out nicer than we had imagined. Mike took the time to actually match the siding to our existing home! If you need a job small to large, we highly recommend Smego Construction. The work is extremely professional and well done. Communication is spot on and as a person, Mike is a great human being! Oh! I am away in FL for a work trip and my fiancé made plans to leave work to get to this appointment for a very important matter to address the water and existing system that is in the basement. We got the approval from the seller to setup this appointment and both my dad and my fiancé's dad also traveled to be there as well with our realtor. I cannot believe no one showed up and no one even had the decency to call. To be a No Call No Show is just ridiculous. Lowest of low for a business in my opinion. Wouldn't recommend at all as this is just a baseline and common courtesy for any business, but to put us in this position for a house under contract is just insane.

You should be ashamed of yourself to call yourself a owner. A "owner" would pick up the phone and call a disappointed customer (which you have not done through this process) rather then making an attack online. Original comments: I would have to say use a different company. The salesman Chris was very friendly. He took time going over the job and explained everything well. This was the end of everything nice. First day of job company arrived around 10A and only worked until 3pm. It was supposed to be a 1 day job. The first thing the worker informed me was he never cut a hole in a wall which was supposed to be cut for better access into my crawl space. After 45 minutes he informed me he didn't have the right attachment but, they would finish the rest of the work. The workmanship was terrible. They never put down anything to protect my hardwood floors. The tape job of the layment had holes in it. It was not level and looked just thrown up. They left around 3pm and never cleaned anything. We had to clean up our hallway. I had to contact the owner who told me they would be out the next day and take care of it. They did arrive the next day and did fix all the poor workmanship but, why was it done poorly to begin with? They did not want to dig up the yard so they tied the pipe into my downspout. The salesman told me they don't do that but worker told me salesman doesn't know anything. We saved money there so that wasn't bad. Company then wanted a review to be done after they fixed everything and forced made my fiancé uncomfortable and she felt obligated to write it while they were standing there. Talk about a poor way to do business. You want an honest review here it is. So end of day 2 still no hole cut in wall had to wait again for a 3rd day. Poor communication with company and they couldn't get me scheduled. In the meantime they had no problem sending me the bill. Which we refused to pay until the work was complete. Finally after a week and a half company arrived to finish cutting hole. I was told by the sales guy they would cut down 16 inch. Guy cutting hole said they couldn't do it that far in his professional opinion due to integrity and water coming in. We agreed on smaller hole. He again told me sales guys just sell stuff they don't know. They did take $100 off again which was good. Very frustrating getting work done by a company that promises things then does them poor.. fixes and then complains about the sales people. Like I said in beginning find another company and save the headache.

This is the second time we've hired them for home renovations, and they've been able to handle everything we asked from drywall to electrical and plumbing. The only downside I can come up with is that they're so good that they're always busy, so you'll want to schedule your work well ahead of time. Just remember, they're in demand because they're just that good. So be patient, and you'll be glad you were.
