Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds, immediately known to all as Gerald and Ali, the proprietors of Avalon Farm, proved to be the best possible hosts for our group, which included young children and young adults, as well as middle-aged and older family members. We all quickly felt as if we had been adopted by Gerald and Ali. They brought in additional staff, all extremely amiable, to deal with our numbers, and delicious, hearty breakfasts were always served without any waiting on the part of the hungry guests. As members of our party drifted in during the afternoon, they were all offered tea, a delicious reminder that we were in England. All of our group wholeheartedly recommend Avalon Farm, and look forward to the possibility of returning there some day.

The End House is a beautiful and tranquil place to stay for your visit to Cambridge. It's in a…read moregreat location, just about a 15 minute walk (partially along the forest path near the River Cam) south of the city center, which also makes it more convenient to walk to Grantchester village if you want to visit the Orchard Tea Gardens (which you should do!). If you are arriving at the Cambridge train station a cab is only about £6 as of 2014 if you don't want to drag your luggage through the forest, which we found out the hard way. Jonathan is a very kind and helpful host, and everything is chosen with great care, from the modern yet functional fixtures, to the clean and unusually large beds compared to other beds we encountered in the UK, to the beautifully handpicked furniture. Jonathan also buys groceries early every morning, so the fresh fruit and local sausage and bacon he serves are outstanding. He also makes perfectly cooked eggs, as well as delicious homemade fruit smoothies! I would definitely stay here again.

We had an en-suite twin room. It had a flat screen TV, tea/coffee making facilities with biscuits, sweeties on the pillows, luxurious bedding lovely. For breakfast we chose a fruit platter, which included several items from the garden (pears, berries and redcurrants) as well as lots of other pieces, artistically arranged and, more importantly, really tasty! The hosts were friendly, funny and helpful in pointing us to where we needed to go. I wholly recommend this place!
