I feel that Central Florida Awnings mislead my 94 year old father and I in purchasing an awning from them by giving us false claims about the abilities of the awning.
Jamie Boval, the owner, came to my house to talk to my dad and I, about installing an awning. I told him my dad likes to sit outside and feed the birds, so I needed a cover to shield the sun and rain when he is outside. I told him I was debating on the awning versus a permanent cover. We cook out and I wanted to make sure that the awning would work, because otherwise, I told him I would pay extra and get a fixed structure.
This was a Father's Day present to cheer up my dad because my mom passed in February. Jamie knew that.
Jamie told me that the awning would work for our needs and I told him as long as we can get out to feed the birds or grill, if it was light to medium rain it would work. He assured me it would.
That was not true.
I even purchased the extra wind sensor as an extra safety measure so the awning could determine the wind. It is supposed to close automatically when the winds got high. This way there was no question about using the awning in the wind. If it got too windy it would close.
The first two awnings were bent, the third didn't work as promised and I never received the free cover I was supposed to get for ordering before the end of May.
When his installer came over to my house for the fourth time, to try and move the awning so it would work, he was very upset. He told me and my dad's housekeeper, that his boss, Jamie Boval, had told the people before me that day, that they could use their awning in the rain too. He was very upset because he said he was always having to set people straight after Jamie exaggerated the abilities of the awning.
I asked him how many people he had heard this from since he worked for him and he said approximately 30 people. He said he was tired of him not telling the truth and he was very upset that he mislead my father. He said, he is old and I see him out here feeding the birds. He said he didn't think it was right how his boss told us that we could use this in the rain or winds. He said he tells people that all the time when he knows it is not true.
This is his installer venting to me, a customer, in front of my housekeeper, sister, and my dad. He was so frustrated I felt sorry for him because he is actually a very honest person who tried to help me so much. I feel he is the only reason Central Florida Awnings is in business. He was the only person at that company who really tried to help us.
Jamie did not help at all after he got full payment for the awning. He was rude to me on the phone and told me to call Sunsetter for help after full payment was made. He made it very clear to me that he does not work weekends and if you have issues you can contact Sunsetter, and not him.
Would have been good to know in advance.
I do not recommend this dealer or this awning. If you don't have a house with a really high pitch down, it will accumulate rain. If you can't pitch the awning down enough, the wind gusts will make it fly up so high it looks like it is going to flip backwards. The first one actually did flip on my roof and bent backwards, but they said it was because it was bent and when they replaced it, that would not happen.
Not true. It flips up so high in low winds now I would be scared to try medium winds.
This is my personal experience and my feelings about what happened to me and my father dealing with Central Florida Awnings and Jamie Boval. As a review my only intention is to let people know what happened to me. read more
