Someone reviewed this place slipped up in regards of sanitary practices , but tell me which restaurant from morro bay to santa Barbara hasn't slipped up before? I don't like the idea of bad practice... but I know every joint doesn't adhere 100% to standards. Wish they did but overall... never had a bad meal at l&k or a weird feeling. The bad review praised/suggested la pico sita which is basically the best Mexican food in santa maria. Agreed. But, even la pico is questionable in standards. Best Mexican food is from mothers, grandmothers and aunts. And I promise you their methods aren't 100% sanitary. Even horrible national chain Chipotle failed with their "standards" ... I'll take love and respect over defrosting meat next to dirty dishes in the end game results. I say that with a grain of salt. I would prefer best practice, but when it comes to food, Mexican food specifically... there is a gray area. No one wants to get sick because of bad practices. But... ive thoroughly vetted l&k this week... and they were consistently on point. Felt good after each meal, like I walked out of fine sushi joint. As far as im concerned... l&k is to liquor/market/burritos as Swiss/shaws is to steak house . All are santa maria . Real/raw/staples Unless you have an immune disorder snowflake... enjoy it. Its good.

I like their liquor, beer and wine. I tend to stick to the local vintners and pleased with the reasonable prices. I like that they have salads and sandwiches, but I was disappointed that they did not have the other deliciousness associated with a delicatessen: marinated olives, potato salad, mac salad, prosciutto and fresh deli meats. I ended up ordering a turkey & cheese sandwich, a garden salad and a bottle of red for my take-out lunch. Turns out I really liked the sandwich & salad. They were much better than I expected.

Any time I have a question even if Andy isn't there his employees are helpful and let me know they will ask him and get back with an answer. The store recently redid the parking and added a lighted sign outside and their hours are some of the best in Old Town Orcutt open early and closed late. I love that I can go in the store and ask questions about certain bottles and price and have a great conversation. I never feel pressured to buy higher priced higher allocated bottles. Infact the opposite Andy will give his honest opinion and recommend a different often times cheaper and easier Bottle to find. The prices so long as they are standard offerings and not the coveted allocated bottles are very fair or even excellent meeting or beating MSRP which never happens in smaller privately owned businesses. It's a refreshing experience that I can go in have a conversation and not really be expected to buy. Because of this I have been a return customer and will continue to support a local business with majority of my purchases. Let's face it unfortunately a local liquor store can rarely compete with big box stores on certain items but what makes since to get local my first stop will always be Orcutt Liquor & Deli.
