What really makes this place popular is their tournaments that are held almost every day! When I was there, they were holding a Magic tournament. At least that is what I think they were playing, but I don't have too much experience in that stuff. There were tons of people here though, both in front of the store as well as in the far back of the store. There were tons of tables set out with people in the tournament. There was so much that there was an over spillage of people into the tables the mall provides in the middle of the mall! The store seems kind of dark and old, like you're in some kind of basement. I think they need better lighting. The selection of board games was small, but they had popular ones like the Settlers of Catan, Seafareres of Catan, many different variety/themes of Munchkin, and even Monopoly! This is a great place for a boy to spend time at.

I'm new to the world of comics so I enjoy visiting the store. I like the store its small and conveniently located in the mall. The store is clean and organized easy to find what your looking for. If you need assistance someone will help you. Great customer service. The store owner is very nice he always greets us when we walk in and remembers my husband's name.

Seems like things are in flux at Mike's Trains. We made a special trip to Lompoc yesterday,…read moreheading south from San Luis Obispo. We were planning to check out / purchase hopefully several of his handmade birdhouses. We've bought a number of them in the past. That was when he had one room as an annex to a larger gift shop. Now that gift shop is gone (or moved?) and Mike is taking over both rooms. The renovation is still ongoing. When we arrived on a Monday afternoon the shop was closed, and there wasn't a sign in the window indicating the days that they are open. We could glance inside and see the remodeling and remerchandising going on, mainly to the secondary room which used to be their only space. We could see a number of birdhouses through the windows of both rooms. The prices have increased since we were last there two years ago. I can understand this - aftermath of inflation. Had the shop been open, we would have been a quandary on making a purchase. We have kept some of the birdhouses ourselves, gave them as gifts, and resold a couple after adding a few tweaks of our own. The current price point makes it harder to think of the latter purpose. Wishing Mike well in his new, expanded space. There aren't that many train hobby shops any longer, so hopefully he'll flourish.

In fact, even today, it looks "too cool for school". Last Labour Day weekend we did a self guided walking tour provided by the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce and discovered this hidden jewel along the way only to have it closed tighter than a drum. We tried to peer into the dark windows, but it seemed covered up from the inside. Closed for now due to the Pandemic. As I recall, there was a notice posted on a wall mentioning something about earthquake hazardous building? If that is true, hope the owners of this historic looking building can retrofit for earthquakes asap since this block has the most "period piece" buildIngs on West Ocean Avenue which could serve as the historic core adding a tangible connection to Lompoc's past for any new downtown redevelopment in the future. Don't be like the city of Brea, Ca that razed all of historic downtown and replaced it with a "Back to the Future" fake downtown that has nothing to do with its former past. Bakersfield is great, preserving its downtown and at the same time making it a vibrant city center by honoring its past. Can't wait until Michael's Place stages its grand reopening. Michael's was sold in 2017 so wishing the new owners much success and good fortune. 3 stars for now until Michael's reopens again.  Photo of Michael's https://m1.cbhomes.com/p/305/1059631/c573ddc98b204B7/pdl23tp.jpg
