Purchased a membership yesterday, went to use the cardio equipment today and the stair steppers…read morewere unusable. They were beyond dirty, covered in old dirt and dead skin residue. It was moving all by itself before and starting it, and kept thumping like it was about to fall apart. The treadmills were the same exact way. After looking around more most of the lighting in the building doesn't even work and there were elderly members working out in darkness. I was only there for 10 minutes and requested a refund and to cancel my membership, which I was told a manager will contact me because the worker couldn't figure out how. How is the membership $70/month and what is that money even going towards?!

Not bad. As the name implies, it's really more of a general fitness center than a regular gym…read more Here's what I mean. As with many fitness centers, most of the strength training gear consists of limited motion machines rather than free weights or cable machines. This is appealing to a lot of people, but it's a considerably less effective way to develop strength. Their weight selection is somewhat uneven. On the one hand, they have a good assortment of dumbbells that go up to 120 lbs, which is great. They also have multiple bench press stations and squat racks or power racks (including a Jones machine, which is less ideal but kinda close). On the other hand, their kettlebell selection is small, with the heaviest one only going up to 45lbs. This means that any man in halfway decent shape is likely to outgrow them quickly. They also don't have any decent straight pull-up bars, which should be a staple in any serious gym. Some of the squat racks and cable machines do have some angled bars that would work in a pinch, but these are considerably less versatile, and they can be unavailable when other members are using those racks or machines. (One squat rack does have a straight bar, but it has two unnecessary cross-members that prevent users from adjusting their hand spacing much or otherwise doing various pull-up variants. Speaking of which, while the squat racks are appreciated, the place lacks a decent deadlifting platform. The squat racks can do in a pinch, but the impact mats underneath them are no substitute for a proper deadlifting surface. For cardio, the place has an open floor area and the usual cycles and other machines. It's workable, but nothing special. So the bottom line is that you can get a decent workout there, but the place is geared more toward casual gym goers than to people who train harder, whether for strength, endurance, or specific athletic goals.

I have been a client at Barre Youngstown since mid-April of this year, and I have already taken…read moreover 140 classes. Some of the reasons that I love it so far: * The instructors - I have taken at least one class with every instructor, and all of them epitomize the studio slogan of STRONG*SEXY*FIT. They often come around during class to help make sure that your form is correct so that you're getting the most out of your workout, which I really appreciate. * The challenges - Laura periodically runs various challenges throughout the year to help keep everyone motivated. I successfully completed the Summer Burn Challenge, even with an 8 day vacation scheduled in the middle of the challenge period. * The variety of classes - there are at least a dozen different classes from which to choose. Even when I attend the standard bootybarre class, which continues to be my favorite, the instructors do an excellent job of changing it up so that each class is different. * The equipment - each class uses different equipment including hand weights, small balls, large balls, various bands, TRX bands and of course, the ballet barre. Starting in January, Laura is adding a new class called bootybarre Bounce, which uses fancy trampolines. I can't wait! * The schedule - classes are available 7 days a week and both mornings and evenings. There are even classes available at 5:30AM two days per week to accommodate early birds like me...
