    Capital One Café

    Capital One Café

Who knew Capital One had a café Located inside of West County Mall. I came across this gem one day…read moreand been hooked ever since. The staff here are always so nice and polite, and this is a great spot to get away from all the noise when you want to relax or get a little work done. I ordered a honey lavender iced latte. It was smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. He honey and lavender mesh so well and you can taste all of the flavor. They sell pastries as well. I ordered a ham and Swiss croissant. The croissant was fluffy and flakey, and the warm ham and cheese brought comfort to my belly. They were out of the marmalade that comes with it so i wasn't able to taste that. If you use your capital one card, you get 50% off your drink. You also get access to their meeting rooms and private bathrooms. There is plenty of seating inside.

Concept is interesting - part cafe, part bank, part workspace, part bank. The space is modern and clean, and set up perfectly if you want to sit and get work done. Lots of seating and outlets with free wifi. I didn't get to try the coffee and got the matcha instead which was pretty refreshing. The menu also included light food options like sandwiches and pastries which are convenient if you want something quick. Another big perk is you get 50% off drinks if you have a Capital One or Discover card which makes it a much better value and a reason to come back.

    Midland States Bank

    Midland States Bank

I had a cpl separate disappointing issues happen while I banked with Midland States Bank on Clayton…read morerd by John Mineos restaurant. I opened an account there because my fiancé job at John mineos banked there. So it made it easier for us both to use them. No problems at first but then I over drafted by a few dollars and huge fees started. I contacted Midland and paid the dues and opted out of whatever that allowed me to over draft. Problem solved...nope a few months later it happens AGAIN due to some free trial I cancelled but still charged me. I WAS TOLD IT CANT HAPPEN AGAIN! Well it did and then they said I should've opted out not in. So they fixed it. Months later Boom again so at this point I'm over it and I'm pissed off and tell then I want to close my account. I owe like 6-10$ at this point and want to close my accounts because I can't pay for it. Midland tells me they cannot allow me to close my account because I owe the six dollars or 10 whatever it was. I said that's why I want to close my account because I can't afford to pay that and I can't afford any more fees. He again said that I could not close my account until it was paid. I said so you won't let me close my account, but you will continue to keep it open and charge me a fee after fee after fee until you have decided enough fees have been stacked up on me and then you would close my account when you were ready? And the guy said yes that's the way that it's done! I said that's the most predatory thing I've ever heard in my life you're gonna charge somebody you cannot pay six to $10 in overdraft fees and you're gonna run up hundreds of dollars in fees and then go to collections to try to get them from me? I told him you people are freaking evil you people are intentionally going to tank my credit that I'm working so hard to keep up. Saying I was mad is an understatement. So I actually walked into the branch and Clayton and I talked to the manager who was super cool, understood what I was saying and he told me that he was going to remove the fees that I owed because it was just a couple of dollars and pay them off themselves and then closed out my account on the coming Tuesday. I said that's great man. Thank you so much. He said that way you can just close your account at zero and you won't have to worry about any collections or anything. We talked about crypto for a while, and I said I'm just gonna Go back to using Cash like I did before. That way I can spend what I have no more less and he laughed and I laughed and Thank him and then left. Well fast forward a couple of months I get a letter in the mail and they're charging me somewhere around $800! Almost like $1000 now and they sold it to a collection agency. So that manager looked me dead in my face and lied to me said he was going to help me and close my account and did not do anything at all. Just told me that to shut me up and then just let me end up being overdrafted, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars in Bank fees after lying directly to my face. I really trusted that general manager. On a sidenote when I went inside and I talked to one of the workers that sits at a desk about my account when he pulled it up and he seen my balance was near zero he laughed at me. The guy actually laughed at me in my face per having no money in my account. Do you want to talk about something embarrassing I was struggling then, and now I'm struggling even more. I'm so embarrassed I want to go in to talk to the manager to find out why he didn't keep up what he offered to do in order for me to have a clean slate as I leave Midland but I'm too embarrassed and I'm also kind of to Mad at this point afraid I would say or do something that'll get me in trouble. It's just unbelievable the way that they lie to your face and hide behind being in a good neighborhood like they're a good bank because they're not. I would not recommend banking with them for anything at all. Total deception and so many fees.
