Byron Lake pool and park has been around for a very long time but I wasn't a regular visitor until…read moreabout 2 years ago when I started going at least 2 to 3 times a week to walk about the lake both for exercise and fresh air. There is a nice walking path circling the lake with benches for relaxing and taking in the natural beauty. There is also a good mix of both sunny and shaded areas. Along side there is a picnic area with tables, and a play area for kids with swings etc... Just watch out for the geese that seem to live in the lake lol The pool was recently completely rebuilt and is very large, very clean and has areas for small children to enjoy. There is an indoor cafe that I've yet to try. There are discounted access fee for seniors.

The park is disgusting! The water feature is 100% toxic. The amount of dog feces in a park that…read moredoesn't allow dogs is absolutely out of control! You would think people in a nicer neighborhood would be able to read the signs and follow directions. I blame the community for not holding themselves to a higher standard.

The 18-hole golf course at the Hamlet Wind Watch Golf & Country Club is quite beautiful…read more The course is kept up rather nicely with nice fairways and greens. The course is more on the narrow side with homes sometimes on both sides. With water holes, bunkers, and sand traps, it can be a little difficult. Carts are provided, and the prices are fair.

This is probably the weirdest place to play golf on Long Island. Its long standing claim to fame is…read morethat course conditions are pretty good. Currently that reputation holds on the fairways and greens. Rough is fine. Bunkers are generally not raked. More than a few tee boxes are unlevel and chewed up. The water hazards are either swampy or filled with what looks like straight Windex. The course is tight and in spots lined by condos. The driving range is grass which is nice, but no one is collecting baskets and keeping it tidy and the practice spaces are way too close together. In terms of the facility and the operation, it feels like a defunct country club. The aging clubhouse needs a lot of work. The ceiling in the men's locker room is leaking, the banquet hall looks abandoned & the halfway house is closed. There is a friendly beverage cart driver that we saw once during a 5 hour round. Yes a 5 hour round. The course is not rangered. The staff comes off as a bunch of characters. The "starter" has no name tag or logoed apparel on that would identify him as a course employee. They make sure the next group tees off the second the group ahead is out of range like a local muni. No effort to space out the groups. He also took it upon himself to watch tee shots and comment on everyone's result. Weird. Even the greens keeper drove around the entire fringe on one hole while we were putting and pulled away giving us the peace sign - crazy behavior both from a politeness factor for guests as well as a complete lack of respect for the course he's maintaining. They charge a luxury price - it is not a luxury experience. A mixed bag at best.

Everything looked fine until I got in the pool. The grout under the bullnose had tons of gaps and grout was crumbling. They came back to "fix" it. It wasn't much better. Within a month, we noticed the water level was going down. Made them check it and it was a problem with the piping into one of the skimmers. Fixed it.. OK. Water was still going down but slower so we thought it was just evaporation. Dealt with it all last year. This year, just opened my pool at the water is 2 FEET lower than when we closed it. Turns out the light they installed is leaking. Julio will now not return my phone calls and I am paying someone else to fix it. They are the worst.

As a parent of a child with ADHD, I know how challenging it can be for my son to stay focused and…read moreengaged--especially in structured learning environments. That's why I cannot speak highly enough about the exceptional team at Goldfish Swim School in Centereach. During a recent class, my son--who was just one skill away from moving up a level--was struggling to pull all the pieces of the technique together. Although he had practiced the components many times, executing them fluidly was difficult. What happened next was nothing short of extraordinary. While his instructor was working with him in the pool, another staff member who was on her break jumped into the water to offer encouragement and hands-on support. Her initiative sparked something magical--one by one, the other instructors, lifeguards, and even the managers joined in, forming a circle of motivation around my son. They cheered, guided, and uplifted him with such enthusiasm that it brought me to tears. Their teamwork, compassion, and commitment to helping every child feel seen and supported created a moment my son will never forget--and neither will I. He was beaming with pride. I wholeheartedly recommend Goldfish Swim School to any parent, especially those of neurodivergent children. This place isn't just about swimming--it's about building confidence, character, and community.
