Since then, the owner Brad has continued to evolve his gym both in supplies, training style, and employees. They offer affordable 1:1 training as well as group fitness classes that are effective and efficient. As a trainer myself, I love their method of using drop-sets, heavy weights, and functional movement/cardio.

I also realized that it was one more excuse that I didn't need to avoid exercising. A long time ago, I had a really good experience with a Personal Trainer, and decided that was what I needed to do. I came across Retrofit Studio reviews here on Yelp, sort of accidentally. I liked what I read from the reviews & their website. I liked the idea of a private studio too. I called Brad & set up a consultation. There is no doubt that Brad loves what he does & wants every client to be successful. He spent a lot of time listening & talking to me about realistic goals, nutrition, and what to expect. He decided to set me up with Mark, one of his trainers. So far, I have had 8 training sessions with Mark. When Brad said he was a good fit for me, he was right! My sessions are 30 minutes, 2 times a week. By the time I leave, I am a sweaty mess! Mark challenges me, makes sure I have good form, and always encouraging. If I don't do it right, I have to do it again. Every session varies to work different muscle groups, especially the areas that are difficult to target. As hard as he makes me work, I'm never too sore to exercise in between our sessions. That is important to me because I need to do my part outside of our sessions. Mark checks with me regarding my diet and what I'm doing to reach my weight loss goals between our sessions. I always have fun training with Mark even when it's really difficult. The studio itself is great. It's very clean, doesn't smell funky like a lot of gyms (ha!), and a great variety of training techniques & equipment. There are a few cardio machines for client use before or after a session. Every trainer is always encouraging clients, whether it's their client or not. What about results? I started to feel stronger right away and continue to feel that way. I'm steadily losing weight & seeing the jiggle disappear! My muffin top is shrinking! I asked my husband if he noticed any changes. The poor guy looked at me with slight fear of answering the wrong way. ha! I wanted an honest answer. I don't expect fast results, but I am curious if the changes I see are noticeable to others. He said that he has seen a big change. He said I have been a lot happier since I started training with Mark. I wasn't expecting that answer & it made me realize I haven't felt that way about getting in shape (or trying to) in a long time. It sort of made me all verklempt! I can see muscle definition like never before in my legs, it's crazy. The yoga classes are great. I really enjoy the Yin class, it's my hour of mental health each week. My friend got me started on Yoga Basics. It's not necessarily an easy class but rather focuses on the right posture. As someone whose journey to Yoga started at bigger gyms this is really important to me. They take the time to explain the proper positions and if you are off they will tell you how to correct it. (After an IT injury, I've learned the importance of posture!). There are a several classes I haven't tried like Booty Bunz and gym sticks that people love. There is also tighten and tone that I like but totally kicks my butt. Zumba is fun and I recommend trying out different instructors because they all have their own take on things.

I will admit I was a little unsure about the classes at first, simply because they work muscles you aren't familiar with in ways you've probably never worked them. I was using a 2 pound weight in my first class and it felt like it was 50 pounds. 65 year olds were next to me kicking my but. A year late I feel stronger, healthier, more confident and LOVE every single class they offer! Cannot recommend this studio enough. Every teacher is incredible and pushes you to succeed. I'm thankful to finally find a workout that I love and that makes me confident in my body!!! Covid update: they offer SO many live streamed classes every day and a variety of classes. I researched where to begin my Pilates journey for quite awhile and am so glad I found Karen. I signed up for weekly private sessions (newbie!) on the reformer and looked forward to it each week. Even if I was tired before the class, Karen's instructing and positivity could turn that around. She is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and welcoming. She helped me gradually improve and learn more complicated sequences without it seeming too complex. I told her that my body, especially my back, always felt like a million bucks after our sessions and have referred many friends to see her. I recently moved away from the area and she was instrumental in helping me find a new Pilates home. She also helped me learn how to do stretches at home and recommended equipment. She even let me try out her roller at home for an extended time because I didn't want to buy a large roller right before moving out of state-who does that? My husband, who thought Pilates was only for girls, even started Pilates because I raved about her classes so much. She tailored our duet class so that we each had a great session! To be fair, I'm leaving two stars only because of Arsharel and Nichol -- they are truly amazing instructors who deserve to be teaching at an original Lagree studio, not in this environment. Unfortunately, the trust I once had in this studio was broken. After many of us paid upfront for a full year membership, the owner, Judy, suddenly shifted direction: hiring inexperienced, non-certified trainers, opening a new location, and purchasing copycat machines instead of authentic Lagree equipment. Yes, you read that right -- fake Lagree machines, which are not only unsafe but also disrespectful to long-time clients who believed in the original method and trusted her leadership. The studio also rebranded from "Lagree" to "Modern Pilates," which might be fine for newcomers, but as an original client, I signed up and invested in authentic Lagree training -- not this. There's nothing wrong with Pilates in general, but the issue is the bait-and-switch: we trusted we were paying for true Lagree, with certified trainers and proper equipment. As someone who has always supported and respected my studios, I had no choice but to cancel my membership. It's disappointing to see a place I once believed in lose its integrity.
