My experience with Zipporah Wilson, NP was absolutely awful. She completely disregarded my…read moreindividual circumstances, medical history, records, and feedback and instead took a blanket, one-size-fits-all approach to a medication that has successfully helped me for years. As someone caring for a severely disabled, non-speaking child, I needed a provider who would actually listen and consider my individual situation. Instead, I found her dismissive, condescending, uncaring, and severely lacking in empathy. Most concerning, she attempted to reduce a long-term medication without providing clear tapering instructions or an adequate explanation for her decision, despite the potential for serious withdrawal symptoms when these medications are reduced improperly. My attempts to communicate my concerns and get appropriate follow-up were met with little to no response. The entire experience felt unprofessional and deeply concerning. I would strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere, and based on my experience, I believe her conduct warrants a formal complaint to the appropriate nursing licensing board.

I stayed at the women's house in Mar Vista. SERIOUSLY DO NOT COME HERE!!! This place is terrible…read moreand super abusive. I'm not exaggerating. The house manager was literally crazy. If you left one little speck of food on the counter or a glass you would be crucified in the group chat and "leveled down" which meant you couldn't leave the house, so your life got smaller. That is so incredibly abusive to me. It was unrealistic. I seriously couldn't do anything right I was constantly crucified by the house managers. My family was helping me pay for the room and I wasn't even allowed to be in it. They also had male managers ("Dano" and "Bobo") who would come in and basically spend 2-3 straight hours criticizing the girls and blasting their personal business to the entire house. So yeah. Don't come to an abusive space like this if you're trying to heal.

She was SO SWEET over the phone so I knew my girlfriend would feel comfortable. My girlfriend has been feeling a little "cloudy" I guess you can say & I've been to therapists before so I know how helpful they can be. I explained to my girlfriend that it can be scary - opening up to a stranger - but I promised her that it would make her feel better. She was in there for about an hour (the most anxious hour for me from the waiting room but thank goodness they have that soothing music playing) at around 6, Alyson came out to bring me into the room. I sat on the couch & my girlfriend was a COMPLETELY different person. She looked relieved & happier. When we walked out of the office, she broke down crying, hugged me & said "thank you so much for finding her for me." She told me how she is going to go back again because she really liked her & she already had felt a difference. Get you or your loved one struggling with anything an appointment with Alyson. Dr Mizani is a miracle. When my therapist insisted I change…read morepsychiatrists from my last one to Mizani, I was reluctant because I thought "all psychiatrists kinda suck, I might as well deal with the one I have because it doesn't get much better." I have dealt with quite a few psychiatrists in my time, including at treatment centers; and all but her have supported this idea I had that psychiatrists have no emotional intelligence, but just a purely clinical view of the human brain and don't view patients as people to listen to but subjects to examine and push drugs on, always thinking they know better and saying insensitive things to invalidate my real struggles. But not her. She LISTENS. God, I have never met a psychiatrist who listens and really LISTENS like her. She cares what you have to say and takes everything you say seriously and into account before all of her carefully thought out decisions. She makes me feel seen, respected, taken seriously, cared for, and listened to. That's a rare find. And she really knows what she's talking about; her knowledge of psych and medication is very impressive beyond expectations. As soon as I started seeing her, she was able to immediately help what was wrong with my meds and change things around to the right mix. She always lays out multiple options (some containing adding meds, but always presenting alternatives and respecting any apprehension to meds), and takes the time to listen and weigh things out to whatever you feel is best for yourself. She helped refer me to mental health treatment in August when my depression was at its worst, and though the treatment was incredible, the psychiatrist there just couldn't compare. It reminded me of how lucky I am to have Dr Mizani, the best of the best. I have depression, anxiety, and a past of an eating disorder and she has been nothing but helpful and wise. These problems are big in my life but she has kept them under control like no other, and when they get less manageable, she finds the right solutions (like when she strongly encouraged me to go to treatment and provided those resources). Finding mental health professionals who know how to handle eating disorders and don't say totally triggering and incorrect things about them is surprisingly difficult, but she is one of the few who knows what she's doing and doesn't say triggering things. If you're struggling with your mental health and like me have fear around psychiatrists and their lack of emotional intelligence, please give Dr Mizani a try. She's different. She's gold.

Thanks to a surge of hormones, everything made me highly irritable and aggravated. I knew, or hoped, that it was just the pregnancy. I decided to seek help because I wanted my pregnancy to go smoothly. Dr. Mizani was the perfect person to hear me out. She heard me out and used her expertise to see patterns in my actions and offered me ways to approach concerns I had differently. She got mad with me, when I was mad, and she validated me just enough that it opened the gates to tell her more of what I was dealing with. She was able to discuss sensitive issues about my marriage that didn't make me feel embarrassed. She is highly professional and very experienced with working with personal matters and intimate matters of the heart and soul. I am so glad I was able to have her be my doctor . I'm so glad I did. From the first meeting I felt like my therapist really heard what I was saying. Sometimes it feels like therapists zone out, or have rote advice they give to all their patients and try to contort their one-size-fits-all answer to fit your particular situation. I hate feeling like my therapist is on auto-pilot, or when I can tell that my therapist thinks they are *so* skilled they could do it in their sleep. This time around, I found a therapist who genuinely cares about my success. It feels like we are a team. I'm very proud of the progress I've made over the past year and a half, and so grateful I decided not to give up and make this investment in myself. If anyone is reading this and had the same problems I had, just know that it is worth it to keep trying until you find the right therapist for you. I found the perfect balance of compassion and insight and lovingly calling me on my bullshit when I need it. I would highly recommend Through the Woods Therapy Center to anyone.
