In life, I choose calm over chaos and distance over disrespect and I only surround myself with people who are good for my mental health, heart , and soul. You do not always have to forgive and you don't always have to forget! Sometimes, once the bridge has been burned ... there's no fixing it. As long as you know what's best for you , nothing or nobody can make you feel bad especially when they play victim. I've distanced myself from all of this and I pick and choose who I want in my life. I can't control who will try to come back into my life after years of damage and with them bringing in negative energy so what I do is I will walk away! That's the best. No words , no need to explain A THING, but to just move forward by walking away and it will place them in their place . Some people aren't good and unfortunately will find a way to try to connect with you when they see you as an opportunity for them to benefit from. And when they expect for to you to vibe with them a certain way they expect and expectations aren't met, YOU ARE now the WEIRDEST, YOU ARE now A HORRIBLE PERSON, YOU THINK YOURE BETTER than them. 5 stars does not cut it for this amazing woman's work…read more I found Tamika by sheer luck. I say this because it is EXTREMELY hard to find a decent therapist/life coach/social worker (you name it), let alone an incredible one since they're almost mythical or non-existent like unicorns. After meeting with constant terrible therapists who clearly did not care for my well-being (more so for his or her paycheck), I somehow was blessed with landing a session with Tamika. After my first session I felt so surprised. I had finally found the unicorn that I was searching for my whole life! I am currently enrolled in a Marriage and Family therapy program, so I wanted someone to truly help me find my path and purpose as well as heal me so that I can be an effective therapist myself. Well, Tamika did that and much more. Tamika helped me heal in ways that I cannot even fully put into words. Tamika guided me to find my soul and my passions in life. Tamika also helped me IMMENSELY as an up and coming therapist. She validated my concerns and reignited my soul again. I truly feel as though I am a changed woman and that I am stronger than ever and I felt this change in me within the first 2-3 sessions. Tamika helped me grow as an independent woman, improved my love life, guided me in the career and other ventures, validated me, and made me feel safe. It's amazing what a great healer with amazing guidance and coaching in all aspects of life can do for someone...and Tamika is the epitome of it all. I promise you, you're in more than good hands with Tamika. You're in spectacular hands with her

It was early on in our relationship, and after several circular arguments we felt it necessary to…read moresee a relationship therapy. At first we were hesitant to go to a therapist because of the stigma associated with couples counselling, which suggested that there was something wrong with our relationship. This is not true. It doesn't mean there is something wrong, it means you are both there, committed to strengthen and lay a strong foundation for your relationship. We contacted several therapists, and Grace was the first to respond. Her email stuck out to us. Right away she seemed compassionate and everything seemed to be very easy, all the way down to negotiating time in our busy schedule to see her. From the moment you walk through her door, you immediately feel comfortable; Soft lighting, a comfortable temperature, and a pitcher of iced lemony water reminiscent of a spa day. The first consolation was not just an assessment of our willingness to work with her, but also her willingness to work with us. By the end we felt so good about the consultation that it was really a no brainer, and we chose her as our therapist. She listened to both sides and helped us hear and understand one another. We generally were welcomed to drive the conversation when needed, and other times she helped us create a dialogue. She provided suggestions on how to break the cycle. It felt completely unbiased. Both of us were able to get our views across without feeling like we were wrong for thinking them. Instead she guided us towards a resolution that worked for both of us. We never felt judged or that we were wrong. We were aloud to feel what we were feeling. After a few months of working alongside Grace, 90% of our arguments were defused, and of the other 10%, we developed techniques to help come to a quick resolution. We now feel like a cohesive unit able to conquer anything before us, together. Thanks Grace for all your hard work and effort! You helped us lay the groundwork for a long lasting, phenomenal relationship. N & J

Through the Woods Therapy Center has been a lifesaver! I had such a terrible time "auditioning"…read moretherapists and I was about to give up when I figured I'd give it one more try. I'm so glad I did. From the first meeting I felt like my therapist really heard what I was saying. Sometimes it feels like therapists zone out, or have rote advice they give to all their patients and try to contort their one-size-fits-all answer to fit your particular situation. I hate feeling like my therapist is on auto-pilot, or when I can tell that my therapist thinks they are *so* skilled they could do it in their sleep. This time around, I found a therapist who genuinely cares about my success. It feels like we are a team. I'm very proud of the progress I've made over the past year and a half, and so grateful I decided not to give up and make this investment in myself. If anyone is reading this and had the same problems I had, just know that it is worth it to keep trying until you find the right therapist for you. I found the perfect balance of compassion and insight and lovingly calling me on my bullshit when I need it. I would highly recommend Through the Woods Therapy Center to anyone. If my experience is any indication, I can tell the therapists have been hand selected for their empathy and ability to guide clients to results.

We just had to pull our son out of what was meant to be a 30 day treatment program because he was receiving sub-par care with a therapist and team who didn't have the depth of experience needed to help him, for several lapses -- and in some instances, outright refusal --to provide contact information or even the names and titles of people involved with his care and through which we could voice our concerns, as well as decisions made in his care that directly contradicted both his current therapist and psychiatrist, despite their repeated attempts to advocate on his behalf. You will hear a great many things from their intake team (all of them making it sound like an ideal and compassionate place to heal) but what actually happened to us was very, very different. I hate to leave this sort of review but hope that it saves other families from the terrible experience that we unfortunately had.

This is a long overdue review for The Balanced Brain. I had been looking into Neurofeedback in Los…read moreAngeles area for over a year. I have always been intrigued with how wonderful our brains are and just wanted to improve anxiety that had been part of me since childhood, along with improving my brain performance in general. I would tell myself I just wanted to feel "normal". I went through a very difficult experience late last year that left me with high levels of anxiety and severe PTSD. In all honesty, I felt broken. I was in survival mode for many months. My goal was to get better without medication. I did thorough research and finally decided to go with The Balanced Brain and I am so glad I did. From the very beginning, John was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and compassionate. He took the time to listen, understand my needs, and provide thoughtful guidance throughout the process. I was very nervous during the intake process and my very first appointment. The team helped ease my anxiety. They were very caring and reassured me that my brain wasn't broken. My thought process was a mess. I was a mess. Instead of a one-size-fits-all program, they adjust the training based on how your brain responds. I loved this because my brain was being trained based on MY needs. The team took the time to really understand my history and how my brain and nervous system were functioning. They also look at lifestyle, nutrition, stress, and other factors that affect brain performance. A combination of tools were helpful to the Neurofeedback sessions, such as coaching with Madison, lifestyle guidance, HeartMath, bloodwork to go in depth the health of my brain and body, etc. What I appreciate most is that the focus isn't just on symptoms, it's about helping your brain learn to regulate itself better. This was huge for me. The changes were gradual but meaningful. I started sleeping better, felt calmer during stressful situations, my resilience increased. Instances where I'd be triggered were no longer a thing. I can even go to the nail salon now without anxious thoughts! Everyone at the office is very friendly and professional. They were all very supportive and genuinely interested in helping me improve. I am eternally grateful for them being by my side through it all. I even got to meet some wonderful people also doing Neurofeedback. Sharing stories and experiences was one of my faves! I officially finished my 60th session and plan on continuing in the future for maintenance. John (and the entire team) create a welcoming and supportive environment where you feel cared for as a person, not just a client. His generosity, patience, and dedication truly reflects the kind of human being he is. He is incredible! I am very grateful for the support and positive experience I had working with him. I had already spent a lot of time dwelling on my childhood emotional traumas and I had felt like I had a good grasp of my emotional patterns. I just hadn't figured out how to heal from them.
