This is a serviceable trail which I can use to walk to BART or get a quick bolt of exercise on foot or by bike. It can be very windy in the summertime so be prepared. Sometimes there are odd types on the trail but I have not had trouble. There may be improvements on the horizon; we will see! read more

Nice trail from San Bruno BART to SSF BART, with mile markers every .5 mile. Be weary tho, assaults (mostly on women) have taken place on several occasions from dawn to dusk. Minus two stars for having to carry pepper spray and frequently have to look over my shoulder while I run, either way, working out with a running buddy is always a good idea. Often windy, especially the stretch by the dog park (by Safeway on Chestnut) up to Orange Park, so dress in layers and shed them as your core warms up. read more

This is a beautifully paved trail about 4.5 miles spanning from San Bruno BART station (behind Tanforan) to South San Francisco BART station. It is very well maintained in keeping up with vandals who like to spam it with graffiti. It's ideal for running which is what I use this trail for. It's not very long for biking, but if you're out for a leisure ride, it's also quite suitable. It's a nice ride to Orange Memorial Park. There is also a dog park off the path near the middle point. There's plenty of open space and people usually walking to not worry about safety. You're likely to see a couple transients such as the black trash bag lady wandering around on the trail. You needn't worry about these mindless drones though. This is a nicer area for them to roam, and they break up the scenery adding interest to your walk, run or ride. read more

This partially opened, 3 mile trail will eventually lead you from the San Bruno BART station through the South San Francisco BART station. While I only use about 100 yards of it each day, it looks like a very nice ride or walk. The trail has jogging paths of that running track like "gravel" on both side of the paved trail to save your knees. Since this trail is completely separate from vehicle traffic, you can ride, walk, and jog without much fear of getting hit by a 4000 pound car. If the air hasn't been so crappy lately, I would like to see where the trail ends. I'll do the whole thing once the air improves. Great place to walk the dog, with areas for them to do their business. More trees and plants are in the works. You can even buy your own brick or tree. Take a hike if you are in the area, and while it may not be a strenuous as running up Mt. Tam, it will do for a nice jog. This is the information from the web site for South San Francisco. "Just in time for summer, the first of three miles of trail, which will eventually extend from the San Bruno BART Station to the South San Francisco BART Station, has opened between Orange Avenue and Tanforan. The trail is "Class 1" meaning that it is separated from cars. Using the BART right of way, constructed on top of the underground BART tube, the linear park is already getting lots of pedestrian and bicycle traffic! A button-activated signal light at Spruce, and in-ground motion activated lights at Orange Avenue, provide safe crossings where the pathway intersects with city streets. A plaza on the north side of Spruce includes several interpretive panels that describe some historical facts, flora and fauna of the restored wetland area located there, as well as the 1863 Cut Stone Bridge, also located adjacent to the pathway at Spruce. The linear park has safety lighting and irrigation. Approximately 175 new trees have been planted. The landscape has been planned to be native, drought tolerant, and low maintenance, except for small planted turf areas at the park entry points. This path is a lot different than what i normally walk. Im usually walking the trails at sign hill park in the mountains, so this was different. Its a really nice trail. Set in the hustle and bustle of El Camino, the trail runs parallel to El Camino away from the street though. It runs along the dog park at orange park. Its great seeing all the dogs running free. The scenery is nice. Mile markers are set along the trail so you can see how far you have gone. read more

A really nice place to run, walk, bike, etc. The paved path is smooth and they also have each 1/2 mile marked so you keep track of your training. It is kind of difficult to find it the first time you go there (at least at the San Bruno end is hard) and there is also no specific parking, so if you get there by car be prepared to browse for a place to park. Guess is also better to run with a friend so you are not alone in the path. During the week you will find yourself alone in the trail most of the time, so if you don't have a partner to run with you, remember to pay attention to your surroundings. read more

When my mom told me she just walked from our family home (near Chestnut Ave & Grand Ave.) to Tanforan Shopping Mall, I didn't believe her. And when she told me that she wanted me to accompany her on her next walk, I was less than thrilled. However, I was pleasantly surprised with my experience on Centennial Way Trail. Extending from South San Francisco BART to San Bruno BART, the trail is completed separated from cars. On a Saturday morning, there was a mild flow of pedestrians with their dogs, along with some bicyclists. It's not the most scenic route. It snakes through a semi-industrial area of SSF, just behind El Camino Real. The landscape and foliage are fairly barren, but I suppose that's because it's meant to be drought tolerant and low maintenance. However, most importantly, the trail is safe and clean. Button-activated lights control the parts of the trail that intersect with streets. The city also implemented a few personal touches to the trail that make it unique. Along the pathway, there are panels that provide a map and facts about the area. Where the pathway intersects with Orange Ave, you can buy and dedicate a seating area or bricks to people. read more

Happy 2012! It's the New Year and my fitness goals are in full effect (at least for now!). In my world that means participating in the Kaiser 5K on Feb 5th. Running on the treadmill is a great start, especially since it's been so cold in the morning. To really be ready I've got to see what my legs will do on the road. Where to go?? Centennial Way Trail that's where. This is a great walking/running/biking trail that sits on top of the BART tracks, literally. The trail begins on one end in San Bruno behind the BART and ends in South San Francisco behind the BART. The total length round trip is 5 miles. The trail is marked in 1/4 mile increments along the way, pretty helpful I think. The Trail is broken up into 4 sections. Starting in San Bruno the first section is pretty flat, a good warm up. The second section is longer and a little "hilly", great for next weeks work out I'd say. The third section passes by Orange Park and a great dog park and is pretty flat. The only drinking fountain on the trail is inside the dog park. The fourth section takes you onto the street for a bit then the trail resumes in back of Kaiser SSF and ends at the South San Francisco BART. No matter what time of day I'm on the trail I see other folks getting a little exercise too. Glad to know I'm not the only one working on improving my fitness this year. Oh yeah, at this point I'm still the "visitor" on the trail. Let's see just how many months I can keep it up. As an old coach once said, "You can do iiiiiiit!". I think I can too! read more

Looove taking this way home from sfo on my bike. Its a smooth ride compared to riding 4pm in traffic down el Camino. By the end of the trail I can cruise and check out some dogs running around the dog park. (TOTALLY DIDNT KNOW THAT WAS THERE.) Only bad thing I can point out is high school kids taking up both lanes. -_- read more

This is a really nice place to take your kids on their bikes or scooters. The path is broken into 1/2 mile sections with a very pedestrian friendly stoplight between each section. Kids can get some speed going on their bikes and you can still see them on the long flat sections. Recently off leash dogs have been a problem on two of the sections. Call the South SF police on your cell if you see any. . . . with the new dog park, why are people using the trail to exercise their dogs!? read more

Very smooth and flat. Stretches from SSF BART to San Bruno BART. It can get a bit crowded on the weekends, or on particularly nice days. It is close to my house, and dogs are allowed so that is nice. It also goes by the Centennial Dog Park and Orange Park. I wouldn't necessarily call it a hike, but it's a nice flat trail to take a stroll or bike ride. read more

This is a nice trail that I have recently been enjoying. It's fairly near to me and I plan to take advantage of it when I want to take my bike on BART now that parking is no longer free at the San Bruno nor the South City stations. Pretty soon this trail will be completed to the SSF BART station. Can hardly wait. Meanwhile, I have been enjoying the flowers that are lining both sides for most of the trail. I've been stopping to take snapshots with my cellphone camera and enjoying all the wonderful colors. I am so grateful to have this trail to walk on and to bike on. I am thinking of getting up the courage to blade again, and this might be a good spot to do it if I can keep from colliding into skateboarders :-D read more

Being new to the area since I moved here 7 months ago, I was told about this trail by a fellow swimmer. I decided to check it out. It's all flat, so not ideal for me to do my walks but I think it's a great trail for families/kids to learn how to bike, rollerblade, etc. I biked on this trail but there are 2-3 breaks and you have to cross the streets to "continue" on the paved path. Great for walking if you just want to walk without any grades. read more

If you're like me, you look at the time left on the treadmill every 2 mins to see if you're done with your 30 min run. I wanted to get outdoors in this beautiful weather and enjoy some fresh air instead of getting distracted by 15 people's behinds jiggling on a treadmill. I decided to look for a trail close by and this is it! It's hidden on the other side of the San Bruno Bart Station and you'd never know it unless you looked on Yelp. I look forward to the completion of the trail to the SSF Bart. It's well paved and if you prefer to run on the sand, there's a small strip on the side of the pavement. Flowers and bushes are well maintained. It's safe enough as there are pedestrians and bicyclists in clear view though it's definitely not crowded. There's residential street parking so that's not an issue. I don't have a dog but am so impressed by the huge and well kept dog park closer to SSF. So forget having to glare at people's behinds at the gym, get out there, and breathe some fresh air!!!! read more

This path is awesome because each half-mile is marked so if you're running or walking for exercise, you can keep track of your progress. It stretches from the San Bruno BART/Tanforan center to the SSF BART. I've found it to be pretty clean and well-maintained. It's paved and smooth, and wide enough so that you can give a big enough berth to any sketchy-looking people or dogs along the way. read more

What I love about this trail is that it is close to home and is a good long run from start to finish. But what is a deal breaker for me is how unsafe it is! There is graffiti on the road and the trail is really very secluded. It runs perpendicular to the major roads and is nestled behind the tall fences of homes. I ran once here in an off early afternoon hour and there was no one around. If you decide to come here, please bring a friend or go during populated times. read more

Sweet trail if you're looking to get 211'd during your walk / run / hike. It is flat, paved and easy to walk.

was kind of difficult to find but found it! there's no particular parking lot, so i ended up parking near south san francisco bart station, in 3 hour parking... what's nice about this place is that it's away from traffic and cars, you get somewhat of a nice scenic view, and there are markers on the trail to tell you how far you've gone...i recommend running here with a friend or in a group, i wouldn't be caught running here by myself...confusing trail also, they should add some signs to tell you which way to go...also at one point the markers on the trail ended up repeating itself so more confusion there...but besides that it's a good run, great to go on a hot day, very secluded until you get to the intersections read more
