Well, with age comes experience, and experience has taught me that gay bars are probably the least judgemental and most accepting kind of drinking venue you could ever find. Nobody cares about your sexual orientation, the clothes you are wearing or anything else really. As long as your attitude is accepting you will fit in. The Edge is no different in this respect, but it's quite different in other respects. The space is divided up into 4 (I'm pretty sure it was 4, but I was a little bit drunk) different areas, including an extensive outside area for the nicotine addicts. BBQ addicts are also catered for here, or they were on my visit. Cue obligatory jokes about wanting meat/sausage as you wait for your hotdog. Indoors it's deceptively big, there are loads of bars so you won't be waiting forever to get a drink and the coolest thing of all (for me) was the retro style passport photo booth dumped incongruously by one of the bars which actually takes 4 different photos just how old folk like me remember them doing. I don't remember how much it cost but it was worth it purely for the nostalgia. There are certain stereotypes which The Edge definitely conforms to, but if you are down with "It's raining men" and "YMCA" being on the playlist then this shouldn't concern you.

As a young female I felt intimidated and I had to walk away and wait for my transport somewhere else as the insults wouldn't stop and they kept calling me a horrible friend, a disgusting person etc... It was around 3am and i should've felt safe waiting next to the venue however it was the exact opposite. The incel security team seems to be on a power trip, making excuses to harass women instead of acting professionally, not to mention my friend got home okay and he is disgusted with how they treated me.

The inside area is larger than you think, with a dance floor downstairs. There's also a huge outside area. It was very busy on the Saturday night we were there and I didn't find the atmosphere particularly friendly. I can say all that though and still give it 3 stars because I can see it isn't for me (too old/not alternative enough) but I've given it 2 stars because of the 'cocktails'. They make a big thing of doing 'fellowship' cocktails in pint glasses. They basically are made of fluorescent coloured sugars and low percentage cheap alcohol. They made me feel more sleepy and grumpy than anything- not exactly how you want to feel before you go out. They would be better getting a variety of decent cider/ales on tap which they could also charge £5 for but would actually taste like something.
