A reasonably good day out as long as the sun shines!!! A little overpriced I thought - but then I…read moream a skinflint. Possibly would have awarded this four stars if with younger children as it was aimed more at them. It was a little tame for the tastes of both hubby and my six year old son. I thought it was kind of charming - but perhaps not worth paying £12.00 a head for. The actual building is stunning from the outside and you cannot fault the views over the cove below. Inside the castle its been kitted out like a museum and is mostly home to toys, puppets, dolls and pier type animatronics and slot machines from yesteryear. Very interesting - but only enough to keep you occupied for an hour or so unles you are a fanatic. One whole room devoted to a large model railway- if you like that kind of thing. Also some grisly dungeons, and displays of old tools and farming appliances with some fairly educational information. Inside, and in fact then all the way around the park are amusement games and interactive displays which are made up from reconditioned old pier attractions. These are fascinating - but do be prepared with a ton of 1p- 10p coins to get them going - none of it is free! Outside there are a selection of childrens rides, again fairly traditional and slow paced - so more for the very young. Also there is gnome land which is bizarre, cute and disturbing in equal measures. There is a whole village of houses, pubs, etc,. where these gnomes live, and you can peer through the windows and observe them in their daily lives. Set in Woodland its very picturesque and mildly entertaining for adults - I am guessing young girls would enjoy this most. Hubby insists the gnomes were all models - but I am not sure!! Lots of traditional fun to be had also with crazy golf, a huge slide, and water fountains/ interactive displays. Not sure how you would fair in bad weather as most of the action was outside. If you prefer genteel and thought provoking rather than action-packed you may enjoy it here.

I took my daughters to Watermouth castle last year and they had a great time. There were plenty of…read moreactivities for them to get involved with. I found the prices fairly expensive as for a child over 14 years it is 12 pound so straight away that's 24 pound gone. My daughters got in for free so I suppose that was a good thing. My daughters favourite thing was when they were walking around part of the site where they had these little boxes where they had to press the button and when they did there favourite nursery rhymes played and little puppets inside moved. They were both racing to press the next one. They also enjoyed the water/light show I remember seeing this when I was younger. My favourite bit was watching them trying to find the golden nuggets amongst the sand. Other things that are at the site are: rides, tilting house for you to try and walk around in, old slot machines for you to play on, walk around the grounds, go through the gnome land and lots more, mini golf. Overall I would say this is a great place to go but I probably would only go there once a year.

This place is so full of good times and memory that it's a little obscene…read more The expanse of this place always surprises me, as it's fairly tucked away (although very well signposted), and not all that well known, compared to Drayton Manor and Alton Towers. But this is an equally good day out, I would argue. There is a good selection of thrill-seeking rides, such as Megaphobia (mentioned by the lovely Yee Gan), Vertigo and Bounce. But for those of use, myself included, who would rather eat a live cobra, there are plenty of less strenuous activities to chose from. A series of water slides is great fun - although perhaps favourable in warm weather. My personal favourite is Treetops, a mini roller coaster through the trees, like a really exciting walk through the country. This is a fantastic place to bring kids of all ages, and adults, I promise, will most certainly not go wanting.

Oakwood theme park is right on the left side of Wales in Pembrokeshire. It's a medium sized park…read moreand you may be wondering how it pulls its punters in as it's a long way to travel to get here. Well, among UK coaster enthusiasts, there's just one word to explain this - Megafobia. It's an awesome wooden roller coaster that delivers on speed, drops, and airtime all the way round the ride. Many have rated it their favourite ride in the UK. I have a soft spot for woodies and it may well be my favourite woodie in the UK though as few woodies at Blackpool Pleasure Beach may run it close. There are 2 other big rides in the park. The newest ride is Speed, a steel coaster which was the first in the UK to have a greater than 90 degree first drop. To be honest, being greater than 90 degrees doesn't really add anything much but it does have 2 great pops of airtime along the ride. The other big ride is Hydro, a water ride which unfortunately drew headlines for the wrong reasons when a girl died a few years ago when she fell out of the ride 100 feet up. It's a water flume ride with a crazy drop and don't forget to stand on the splash bridge. The rest of the park is pretty basic with Bobsleigh the only other ride of note. It's the only bobsleigh ride of its kind I know where riders ride on little sleds along a metal bobsleigh course. One price gets you into the park and onto all rides except for Vertigo, the skydiver experience. For an airtime junkie like me, Megafobia is awesome but it is a long way to come.
