Their porters are incredible: coffee and cigarettes is one of the best beers I've ever had. Very rich, but not overpoweringly sweet or hoppy. Lots of complexity with the smokiness and coffee flavor. I'd highly recommend it! Overall the space is cool and trendy, but it gets super cramped, so might not be the best place to linger. read more

Been waiting on the new 3193 Mission location to open. Headed over tonight to try the Detroit style pizza. Stopped at the door and carded as if they were some velvet rope deal. Sorry, but I don't need someone who looks 19 carding 3 adults in their mid 50s and 70s. I didn't actually have my id with me so we skipped it. But with that overly precious attitude at a pizza and beer place? WTF? I think that I'll pass. No pizza is THAT exceptional... read more

Atmosphere: 5 Open, clean, not pretentious. Location: 5 A couple blocks from bart, one block from City Beer. Beers: 5 These guys know what they are doing. Not another dime a dozen hombrewer-gone-brewery. Price: 5 Of course you can taste whatever, but from there you can selct 5oz pours, 9oz pours or 16oz pours. All prices are very friendly, and very against the SF grain. Service: 5 Attentive, knowledgeable, and super nice. Overall: 5 This is the epitome of a craft beer brewery. Good people, making great beer, at good prices. Easily the best brewery in SF. Can't recommend enough. read more

I can't recommend this place enough. It's got a small cozy environment but has never felt overly crowded except (understandably) opening day. The bartenders are super friendly and are happy to chat about beer and I got into a pretty good conversation about various great places to get beer around the city. The beer itself is damn good. I switch off between their dobis PA, their stout and their porter and I'm never disappointed. I'm not much of a sour beer person but people seem to love that too. Also while there is no food, most of the times I've gone there's been a food truck outside and they let people being food inside which to me is even better than serving food inside. read more

I never go below four stars. The beer is outstanding but the venue is very poor. It was cold, very loud and crowded. No place to enjoy their great beer. read more

Rotating selection of exquisite IPAs and sours; this place is my favorite brewery in the Bay Area. Their double dry hopped hazy IPAs are an ethereal gift to this planet and make you forget about your mundane existence for a brief period when you get lost in their surreal taste. read more

An inoffensive brewery and tasting bar. All the beers looked and tasted about the same, and none is going to win any tasting competitions. Small space with an after-work tech crowd. While I am a fan of the Pixies, a well thought out playlist is better than just spinning whole albums. read more

Such a homey, hop-forward little brewery. There were plenty of seats at the bar, and also plenty of seats at the surrounding tables as well. Not to mention, the bathrooms were impressive. But let's get to the important part.. We decided to get a flight and were very content afterwards. Our favorites: Questionable Origins #3, Daphne Other solid brews: Walker, SoMa Ranger, Rodney Dankerfield, Smell the Colors, Little Lies Everyone there was really friendly... from the beertender, to the folks sitting next to us, who happened to also be from San Diego! Super cool. read more

Great vibe, solid beers, growler fills on offer! If you're a session IPA guy there are slim pickings if you want to have just 1-2 without going for the 8-9-10% IPA selection but what we had was tasty. It was suuuper busy but a testament to the solid product and great vibe. read more

Cellarmaker is a nice addition to the neighborhood, and especially on Howard street which is quite empty. It's 1 block away from a variety of good places on 6th and 7th, as well as the popular Folsom businesses. The beer selection was quite small for the opening, but I'm under the impression that they were just introducing beers for their grand opening. The IPA was good, and the atmosphere reminds me more of the City Beer Store than the other Places in the area, which I found to my liking. Lastly, they allow you to buy 1L bottles and growlers and you can refill them for discounted prices. I'll definitely be going here again, and I think this place needs to be checked out before it becomes too crowded. read more

Started with a pint of PhoMoMoCoe, and don't you know, I loved it from head to toe. I mean how could you pass it up with a name like that. It's a very flavorful IPA which gets its inspiration from Vietnamese pho. The combination works very well. Ended with the sampler platter of all 10 beers they had on tap. The Mo Passion and Dank Williams were also good. We made our way down the sampler board to a beer called Coffee and Cigarettes. I hate coffee and I hate cigarettes even more so maybe if you mix both of the flavors together into a beer you'd find some great creation. Negative, tastes as bad as it sounds. read more

Autumn Lager... Not much flavor, sadly. I count 4 IPAs, 1 imperial stout (14.5% abv), and other varieties I normally don't care for (saison, sour, blonde). No other stouts, porters, or brown ales. Nice place though. Definitely a brewery atmosphere. read more

Great beers and a cool spot. I like the way the inside is set up with a bunch of communal tables and tall stools. There is a wide variety of beers that they brew with different hops so it was fun getting a sampler of all of them. My favorites were the beertender's breakfast, tiny dankster, dank statement, and cellarmaker porter. read more

Stopped by for one day in San Fran. Great vibe and amazing beers. It is a small place so be ready to snag a table or be ready to stand. No food but the beer is definitely worth it. You also need to be 21 or older to enter. There are a few TVs but this place is focused on good company and conversation read more

It's a very small place. Holds maybe 40 people max but they use the space efficiently. They were very heavy on IPAs and pale ales when I was there so I tried a bunch of them. Ottos jacket was a nice hoppy IPA but not overpowering. They also has a few lighter options and one stout as well. Most of the pints were $6-7 and they also offered half pints for $5. Doesn't seem like a good deal but it would allow you to try more flavors without getting too tipsy. The waitstaff was really nice and would let you taste something if you aren't sure what you like. There really isn't any food there except for some potato chips but they will let you bring stuff in from neighboring restaurants. Super nice! It was busy for a weekday at 4 o'clock so plan on getting there early or standing somewhere. The beer is good but nothing I tried was worthy of shipping back to the East Coast for a friend. I'll definitely come back again to see what they're offering at the time, it seems like they rotate their beers really frequently. read more

I cannot recommend this brewery highly enough. All of the beers that I tried were great (especially the Coffee and Cigarettes and the brown ale). I think this is the best brewery I've tried in the Bay Area. Also, for a small place they had a large selection. One of the other neat things is that they sell half pints. The atmosphere was also awesome: music but not too loud, TV but not in your face, room enough to get a seat. read more

Small batch Craft Beers and reasonably priced. Get: Sampler, then pick what you like. Suggestions: Double IPA, Coffee and Cigarettes Sorta Con: It gets super crowded! (Good and Bad thing ) Note: They don't have meal food, but you can bring food there or order in delivery. However They do have small snacks you can buy like chips and stuff. read more

I had the Coffee and Cigarettes brew half pint for $6 and loved it. Their smallest glass is a 6 ounce for $4.50. My only complaint is that the place is very small and was very crowded Saturday night. Three of us managed to steal a spot at the bar but I wish the place had more room. The music was upbeat 80s jams and the bartender was dancing her tail off, which made it super fun. It had great vibes and was filled with the younger crowd when I went. There aren't any outside lounge options. We had to park a couple blocks down on a sketchy street, but we left happy and satisfied. read more

Top notch beer. Small and cramped space though.. this place would be awesome if there was a back patio or if they expanded. Let's hope! Unfortunately, no food. So either come before or after you've eaten. read more

I see some people complaining on here that the place is small, has limited seating, and beer that isn't cheap run of the mill beer. It's a brewery. A brand new one, mind you. I think this place is definitely worth going to. They are just starting off, but this is certainly an up and coming brewery. The atmosphere is very nice, the beers are terrific, and the staff was very accommodating. They don't have food but you are allowed to bring in your own and eat there. Great place. read more

Anytime I come to San Francisco I always make it a point to come to Cellarmaker. Their twists on hoppy bears are something else. The vibe is always great, music is awesome and the beertenders are always cool despite how busy this place can get. Hopefully they can move to a bigger space to accommodate the amount of people that come here. read more

Stop number four of eight on a SF brewery crawl. I had really high hopes for this place. Of the eight places we were visiting, this one seemed the most interesting and like it might have the best beers. Unfortunately, it seems that's probably the case given how crowded it was when I got there. Not only was there no place to sit at 3pm on a Saturday, but there was barely any room to stand. Because of how crowded it was, I didn't order the flight I was dreaming (there would have been nowhere to set it). Instead, I ordered a half pint of the Coffee and Cigarettes, which ended up being one of the best beers I had all day. The plan was to order a few more half pints, but our party grew claustrophobic and we chose to depart. I gave the four stars based on the one beer I had and my high expectations for the others on my eventual return visit. I was a little disappointed personally, but it's not fair to penalize a business for being successful. I will say that even though it was jam packed, the service was prompt. I got a beer immediately and didn't have to linger awkwardly at the bar. read more

Came up to SF from San Diego for valentines weekend with the BF and made it here. This place is awesome, and beer was amazing. The craft brew scene in San Diego is legit so it was great to find one that could hold its own compared to them. Small place, a little crowded but the beer made it worthwhile. Coffee and cigarettes has become my favorite Porter. Downfall is they don't sell it outside of the brewery. Means more trips to SF! read more

Cellarmaker Brewing Company - 2.14.15 - Breweries Near Me - Berkeley, California

Disappointed. Visited San Francisco this weekend and was excited to try a bunch of the West Coast beers. Cellar makers did not make the cut. Out of 9 beers on tap I could only recommend their porter. Felt as almost the owner had decided to open a brewpub without some staple beers ready in his pocket. All the beers were just not refined and the all grain was just off. Environment was hip. Just too small for a business to grow. The brewing equipment probably took 50% of the space at the pub. Of all the great choices in San Francisco this just wasn't up to par. Best of luck cellarmakers read more

Came on a Thursday around 330. Apparently they open at 3 so it was a little packed but I got pretty quick service and found a nice spot at the end of a community table. Lots of great selections. First timer and I loved it! Tried a pint of future shock. (6.5% pale ale) Wow. Super impressed. Will definitely be back!! Thank you callarmaker read more

I've been here a few times after hearing rave reviews and recommendations but I have not found their beers to be that great. Almost everything I've had from them has been good but not amazing. Their sours and wild ales are notable though. The interior is also tiny. It's hard to sit down and drink at this place. Regardless of what I said, I believe it is still worth a visit. read more

A great find. The beers are reasonably priced and love the ambiance.my new favorite place to try beers.

Delicious beer. Crappy service. I enjoyed the Mo' Citra and the Coffee & Cigarettes. Between the two, I'd go for the Coffee & Cigarettes again. It took a long time to get a drink and the wait staff wasn't super friendly! It's a small-sized brewery in an odd location, but solid beer. They ran out of a few things. Closing time--they were ready to get people out. Kind of uninviting. I want to love it, but if the wait staff didn't suck, it would have had 5 stars! read more

This place is awesome and such delicious craft beers. This place helped me discover I love Saisons!!

Real kool brewery. Beer was excellent and no complaints on the brew. Seating area is fairly small & I bet could be a problem if you need a seat. Place would be awesome if had a patio or a roof top deck. If you want an interesting walk in SF. Walk from the brewery to union square. You will be amazed at the number of homeless peeps. That obviously not a brewery problem, but a SF / society problem. read more

A real nice spot much out of the way of busy market street area. A big open space, with a very large and colorful chalkboard provides a plethora of beers for you to choose from. They are big on IPAs here, so if that's your angle you wont be disappointed. However, there are some other styles here as well, and they are done with great care and are very good also. Service is also great, as the busy staff still manages to take care of you as the growler fills keep coming from the customers like crazy. Real nice stop, very good beer, and great staff, what more do you need. Could easily waste a lot of time here, and they offer different sized pours for also real cheap too. Great place. read more

Excellent beer and excellent service, we came twice in one day! Their barrel aged beer was lighter than most, which was amazing for me!

Great atmosphere, great beers on tap and in bottles, and friendly knowledgeable staff. My husband and I stopped by here during our vacation in San Franciso. The beer list is amazing!! We liked that you can get $2.50 two oz pours of anything and pretty much make up your own flight as big or as little as you want. My favorite beer was the Coffee and Cigarettes (trust me it's good!) and my husband's was the Vastness of Space. read more

So glad I found this spot cruising Yelp. Cellarmaker has leap-frogged to the very top of my favorite local breweries (sorry Speakeasy). It's on my way home from work and bike friendly (but let's get a rack outside please). The beers emphasize a wide variety of hops, but there's something here for everyone (porters, saisons, lagers). If you're an IPA lover, you'll love that they almost always have two or three to try. Bonus - if you drove here, this block of Howard typically has a few parking spots open. Double bonus - City Beer Store is a block away. read more
