And if that's not enough - just to the side of the produce there's an organic food section with more yogurt. There's a good selection of wines, though the Continente in the Cascais Shopping Center has more variety. And and overwhelming selection of cheeses - most Portuguese (many from goat and sheep milk) but some from other parts of Europe. There's a few items in the meat section that would be unusual to North Americans, such as whole skinned rabbits, tongue and all, and small packages containing 10 tiny birds, frozen, the whole thing just weighing a couple hundred grams, for Euro 6.50 There's also a big selection of non-food items. One section is even a small music store, only about three meters wide, with electric guitars, strings, amps, picks - whatever you'd need to rock out, at least small-scale.... Plenty of computers and accessories, phones, etc., auto supplies, and on and on. There's another floor above this with some small shops, and a large parking area, both in front of the Jumbo and on the roof. There's toilets (free) on both floors, and a Multibanco Caixa automatico.

I actually activated the machine to squeeze the oranges myself and caught the juice in a bottle as it was dispensed! It was so, so delicious! Can't beat fresh squeezed! Prices for other items were also more reasonable than what's available where I'm from; Candy, baked good, and even some specialty foods are way less expensive than at home. The problem is, how do you lug it all home?!

(Elaine/Seinfeld)…read more Conveniently located about a block from my hotel, Pingo Dingo (called Pingo Doce by some) became a frequent stop for me to pick up water bottles and other staples during my time in Lisbon. One of my favorite things to do when traveling abroad is to wander the aisles of grocery stores on the prowl for good deals, amusing products, and wild Australian dogs. The aisles of Pingo did not disappoint! Star Wars obsessed? Check out the Jabba the Hutt fish in the seafood section! Fan of the Two-Buck Chuck? Pingo has a full wall of wines under $5. Kermit is your spirit animal? Muppet eye special in aisle 3! Take note that items from the deli and pastry section must be paid for at that counter. There is also a check-out line reserved only for pharmacy items. Pingo also houses the entry to the "secret" Castelo Elevador, which will lift you most the way up to St. George Castle. Overall this chain grocery store is a fantastic pit stop to load up on refreshments, basic needs, and cheap pastries. Next time some obnoxious woman complains, "I've lost my fiancé, the poor baby," put on your worst Australian accent and let her know he's at the Pingo Dingo!

Continente at Colombo is the largest shopping centre that I came across during my trip to Lisbon…read more The supermarket is one of the largest shops located within the mall The store was clean and the layout was easy to follow, even for me, a non-native to Portugal who had never visited a Continente before, it just felt somewhat familiar and made sense. The selection within the store was very good, for produce and fresh counters for meat, fish, cheese and baked goods. I was able to find the products I was looking for in stock or at least a similar alternative. Prices were reasonable in most areas, although many items, especially branded ones, seemed more expensive compared to back home in the UK, even coffee, which is funny as I noticed Nespresso was slightly cheaper here, but the capsules in the supermarket cost more. While the store overall was relatively comfortable and attractive, the checkout area felt like we were going back 10-15 years, it felt crowded and outdated. A very good supermarket overall, it follows the regular shopping centre opening hours of 8 am-midnight which again is very good for those who prefer to get groceries in the evening when it is quieter. 4*

It's located inside the Santa Apolónia Station (you can only get to it through the station) and has excellent selection and great prices. Want a decent bottle of wine for two euros? Here it is. Their bakery and deli are great, their fruit and vegetables section is diverse, and the only drawback I encountered was that they sell ground coffee but not paper cone filters. Despite that, it's a valuable resource for just about any other need you'd have during a visit to Lisbon.
