Not Michele! She talked a lot and was very bossy and assertive. She insisted--literally--than I do a headstand (inversion) that I was not comfortable doing. She even encouraged the rest of the class to essentially gang up on me to get me to do it! I was embarrassed and humiliated--all by this yoga instructor.

OBA is listed as being on Willamette but has since moved to W11th Ave across from Freddie's. This studio has the feel of a family Mom and Pop studio but it just so happens that Ma and Pa danced professionally for many years. Megan and John bring talent, knowledge, and a wealth of experience to OBA along with warmth. Serious dance. Serious fun. The students are taught technically correct ballet but the environment remains welcoming. There are expectations but they're realistic. Dress appropriately. Be on time. Respect your classmates. Try your best. OBA's fall performance is always held Thanksgiving weekend at LCC. The first one I went to I was blown away. For a period of time I was so engrossed I actually forgot I was watching children! Such a professional and polished performance. Yet youthful and light. However, I often knew I was approximating a movement but not doing it correctly. Vicky is the first trainer to have the body knowledge, observational skills, and instructional expertise that allows me to follow her specific and useful cues. As I practice, I internalize the cues growing more aware of my own patterns of posture and movement. The internal awareness allows better body alignment, and healthier patterns of movement in my everyday life.

When…read moreI spoke with Mary she let me know that she had extensive knowledge and experience working with people with injuries. I have diastasis recti, and we spoke about that prior to my first visit. I have now been going to her since September of 2022. In those short four months she has worked with me to strengthen my core and stabilizing muscles, and to reduce the effects of diastasis to the point where I now feel comfortable going to group exercise classes and modifying the exercises to protect myself and continue strengthening. I will continue working with Mary, and supplementing with group classes. Mary is understanding, encouraging, non-judgmental, and all around extremely knowledgeable about how to work with specific bodies and our individual needs!
