It's been years since we've been back so I don't know if it's still true but it seemed to me those times that the greater portion of their branded merchandise and other "Texas" souvenirs were made in China. They have a Starbucks on the premises and my husband got a coffee to go. I used the rest room. The bathroom is usually very clean, but think there was a bad smell in there yesterday. The cleaning crew was in there, so maybe they would have taken care of the smell too if I have been there a while Later. They have lots of the usual stop n go stuff for sale candy, fountain drinks and coffee. But what caught my eye were these cute animal booty/non skid slippers. When returning home from a trip to see family on Sunday 7/19/20 about 9:45am we decided to stop here as we needed to use the restroom and were starving. Although I've never found the restroom particularly clean in the past, it has typically been passable. The cleanliness was a bit more suspect this time and out of the two stalls, one wasn't usable at all- the lock was broken and there wasn't any toilet paper. So that leaves a single handicap stall to be shared. There was soap and paper towels though. When I came out of the restroom my husband told me the chicken restaurant that was inside was supposed to open in 15 minutes. We were debating getting back on the road again with snacks or waiting for it to open. Then he pointed out that none of the customers nor the employee were wearing masks. About this time we heard a crazy hacking cough and decided against eating there, but getting a couple of beverages and getting back on the road. While waiting in line to pay, Ali (who had put on a mask after his coughing fit) told another customer the chicken place didn't open until 10:30am, which is different than the 10am he had previously told my husband- so who knows. I will say that as we were leaving the next 3 people coming in were wearing masks, and it's possible this is an exempt county since there weren't any signs on the doors, but I don't think so. It's a typical gas station with some additional souvenirs, purses, sun dresses, leather products and knives. Between the cleanliness and safety issues, I'm just not inclined to spend more money than necessary (gas and a Gatorade) here.

King Mart, a Phillips…read more66-branded filling station/convenience store in this Navarro County seat recently added a counter, some tables and cooking equipment to produce muy delicioso street-style Mexican food - tacos, burritos and quesadillas. Hamburgers are also in the menu. There is a lot of pass-through traffic between Dallas and Houston, so the owner decided to install a lunch counter. In talking with the owner, he admitted to never having been to Fuel City in Dallas to try their tacos. Instead, he brought in a local cook to develop their own menu. The meats - carne asada, barbacoa, pollo, lengua, etc. are all fresh. They also make their own salsas - hot habenero, mild red and mild green - and keep them in a warmer. I ordered the carne asada tacos on corn tortillas (flour is also available). You can watch as the cook dips the tortillas and then fries them up on the grill. They then place a generous amount of meat, onions and cilantro on top. They are served with lime wedges. The steak was seasoned nicely, dripping juices and very tender. At $1.39 each, the tacos are a tasty steal. This place does not have table cloths, silverware or china. Be prepared to sit at a small counter with locals or grab one of the few bench-style tables.

This visit was for my usual at this location; gas, lottery tickets and bottled water. It is busy at all hours and the staff is friendly and patient with the slower responding customers. We always joke about the lack of Aggie merchandise on the shelves. The store is not the cleanest 7- Eleven but not bad for the neighborhood. I'll see them on my next trip.
