Nothing is perfect but when I was admitted a doctor took my vitals, reviewed my history thoroughly with an R.N. also taking notes. The R.N. explained the procedures, introduced me to my main caregiver. They did check on me many times each day & before I turned in for the night. Yes, they have rules about bringing in your own meds but the chances of getting double doses or over dose would be extremely high if not. When I had both knees replaced in 2011, I picked my meals & they were brought to my room since I was on the rehab machines so often. But I could also go to the lunch room or dining room if I wished. If I didn't like what they had on the menu I could order something else. In 2016 I came back due to another hip replacement since I live alone with the bedrooms on the 2nd floor. My mother has been a skilled nursing resident for over two years at Mari DV. Previously she had…read morebeen bounced to many other rehab and skilled facilities in between hospitals. The staff at Mari got my mom to a stable and calm place instead of chaos and hospitalizations every few months like she had with other places. Her primary Dr also visited (this was a huge plus for us), and she has been treated by Dr. Sky (psych) and Dr. Night (wound care). At previous places Phych meds were added to fix behaviors and that caused chaos and more hospitalizations. It's very hard to know the best place to trust for your loved one. No place is perfect. Our family has been happy with the service and level of care, plus the activities, ease of using their private dining rooms for our family's visits, and the grand celebrations they host for residents and families during holidays. I never thought I would be reviewing nursing homes, or giving 5 stars, but their staff had earned it. Other facilities she has been at (that I did not/will not review) Quarters of Des Peres, Delmar West on 40, West Chester House, Mason Point/Lutheran senior services. The only downside is they do not have Medicaid beds at Mari.

Trying to find someone at the nursing station was next to impossible and when we would find someone it would take 15 -20 minutes for them to come. My mom had a horrific bruised face from a fall, no one could tell me what happened. It was so bad hospice sent people out more frequently because they felt she was no getting sufficient care. I voiced my displeasure, but it fell on deaf ears. I removed mom from there and brought her home.

Between other family members I have probably been to at least two dozen area senior care centers (from alright to not acceptable). None of them come close to the care our mother has received here. I called many other facilities that had a continuum of care and they all said that our mother would be skilled nursing (because she requires help transferring and dressing) which would be $6,000+ per month for a shared one room. St. Agnes said they thought they could get her to improve and be more independent and they were right. Here she has her own studio apartment. They are genuinely concerned about all aspects (physical, mental and spiritual) of our mother's wellbeing. She has been here only a month and we have already seen a physical and mental improvement in her. The nuns are very compassionate and coordinate every aspect of her care.

For the one week that she was there, multiple trips by family members were made daily to assist her, a minimum of 3 hours each day. After hospital transfer, mom went to a facility that was a higher level of care. This Facility looks nice but that's it. Awful experience at a very vulnerable time!

On move in day (2/28/24) I was given an invoice that stated "Charges in Full" at the TOTAL DUE line…read more I wrote a check and they deposited it accepting as payment for 2 days in February and all of March. However, on my April Statement I saw a new charges for both Feb & March in the amount of $1,924.15. I then reached out to the admin staff inquiring as to what this was. I was informed that they increased her care level around 3/19/24 and I now owed this add'l amount even though not one person reached out to me. I have been disputing this ever since because when I pay a bill that says "charges in full" I believe that that means I have paid the bill to a zero balance. How can they justify increasing anything and back-dating it?? I have been paying the increased amount on April - July care months. Yet they continue to add late fees to this bogus add on bill. Now the newest thing is that they have neglected to reduce her med management fee on her monthly statement even thought she now qualifies for the 1-5 pill $300 charge not the 6-10 pill $400 charge. I have verified with the nurse practitioner that my mom now takes 5 daily meds not the 8 meds she was previously taking. This should've been adjusted on the June 2024 statement but it still hasn't been done and I just received the Aug 2024 statement. I have been deducting the $100 med management reduction from my payment(s) for both June and July....they have left those amounts on our account to accrue even more late fees. This is just scandalous. They are all about money and getting all they can from the families with loved ones living in their care. It's not enough that my mom has had multiple falls, gotten a boil on her upper thigh but when she was sent out to Mercy Hospital ER for aggression she arrived wearing multiple diapers so that they wouldn't have to change her as often. That is just inhumane and disgusting. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone. It looks fancy n pretty and they all seem nice.....don't be the fool I was.....they saw someone in a tight spot and they took advantage of my situation. Due to my mom's previous facility ceasing their Memory Care services I had 28 days from notification to move out deadline so I did not have the luxury of time on my hands. Unfortunately, I again find myself in the same situation just a mere 5 months later.
