Some friends took us here for lunch because of good food they had had here in the past. I can say that this is the first time I have been here to this restaurant and I will gladly come back anytime I am in town! Terrific food! Affordable and good portion sizes. I wish I had taken some photos but you'll just have to trust me. You can look at my track record and I don't say food is good unless I mean it. Here the food is very good! And listen if you like fried Green tomatoes I have never had a better one than what we had here. And the fried green tomato appetizer was only five bucks and it came with either four or six perfect slices. The coconut shrimp appetizer was also only five bucks and was extremely good! $5 appetizers is an unheard of these days. The staff was very friendly and they kept our drinks filled. I couldn't give Cedar River Seafood a 5 because they didn't have their air set to a comfortable temperature. We were sat by the thermostats and one said 78, the other was 79. Great place with excellent service. Both my wife and I ordered the Fish and Shrimp. Both came to us fried perfectly. But the star of the food is the Baby Lima Beans. They are out of this world. Update Nov 21 6pm. : We got seafood platters. Scallops great, fried shrimp, overcooked, grits too salty, green beans oversalted. Flounder perfect, service excellent. They need a real cook back there. However we had to get out in a hurry. It felt like it was 68 in there. Freezing. Since something or other is always oversalted or overcooked, IDK if we'll return. Vegetables should be healthy. She said she'd preferred perch but the fish((flounder?) was pretty good. I loved the shrimp tacos and the seasoning was just about perfect. Just a little spicy. Fabulous. Hushpuppies were 5 and the sauce that came with our coconut shrimp appetizer was delicious. Service was 5 from a young man who's name I can't remember, sorry. If one thing needed improvement it would be the coleslaw. Not much flavor. Not enough dressing. Woow!!! I have not had seafood this good since I was in Europe. The Mahi Mahi was just mouthwatering! I almost forgot to get pictures of all the delicious food to tell everyone!! The shrimp though.. Let me tell you when I say these just melt in your mouth and the flavor is 10/10! I think I may have found my new favorite seafood place! Not sure what was going on but we waited for at least 30 minutes to even be acknowledged by the front receptionist. It's seemed like there was some mixup with several carryout orders but it ended up pulling 2 servers and the receptionist away to figure it out, which left all of us waiting to get our names in hanging. Then our table was still dirty when we went to sit down. The server was quite slow and forgot part of our order, then went out to smoke in the middle of our meal so wasn't around when we needed refills etc. The food was even mediocre. The fried calamari was rubbery and way overcooked.My husbands grilled shrimp were small with zero taste and way way over-cooked. I had fried whole Catfish. It was 3 small sized Catfish. This time we were disappointed. We travel about an hour to come here. The 3-4 previous time it was excellent. This time not so much. We ordered the shrimp(plenty and delicious) as an appetizer, no dishes were offered to put the shrimp. We ordered the stuffed tilapia and the stuffed mahi mahi. Not only tasteless but cold!! We took the stuffed mix from the top and try only the fish, not a pinch of seasoning. Terrible. On the other hand the mashed potatoes were home made and had a good taste but needed more seasoning. The Cole slaw was perfectly made. And the hush puppies are to die for! I even ordered some to go. Not sure if we will travel that distance again just to eat hush puppies. read more

OMG!! What a great meal!! I found this restaurant here on yelp as I find most restaurants when I am traveling. Cedar River says it has 5 locations on its website. I went to the Inverness location. You could easily drive by it. It's not well marked and it sits sideways on the property so the side of the restaurant faces the road. It could use some sprucing up and better lighting. Once inside I would say the same thing. The carpet is old and worn and the furniture is unremarkable. So it seems that the focus is on the food. Everyone leaving had a doggie bag as we walked in. Good sign! We were seated promptly and we gave our drink orders. They had a good selection of bottled beers and soft drinks. I had a premium beer and was very surprised to find that it was under $4.00. We were planning to order one of these platters for two but the waitress told us about an all you can eat special with flounder prepared your choice of fried, broiled, or blackened and shrimp prepared your way. The price was too good to pass up so even though we are not usually AYCE eaters we both had that. They brought out the fish first and we knew we were in trouble. My plate had about 10 small fillets that were cooked to perfection and very fresh. My wife said her dinner was supposed to include hush puppies. They were buried under a pile of fish that was fried to a golden brown and wonderful. Too much to eat. So we told the waitress we just wanted a few pieces of shrimp just to taste it but we were full already. She returned from the kitchen a minute later with two heaping plates of shrimp that we had no chance of finishing. The side's were all very good too. If you like the Colonels coleslaw you will love cedar rivers. Slightly sweet and crunchy. The baked potatoes were hot and perfectly cooked and the green beans were fresh and delicious! When we travel we ALMOST NEVER visit a restaurant twice. But we were making plans to return here before we were halfway through our meal. Our waitress was good enough to give us a doggie bag as we couldn't finish all the food they served and we didn't want to see it thrown out I think next time I'll order from the regular menu or even the senior menu. My wife and I are seniors and stopped here for lunch. We each ordered the $11.99 lunch special of shrimp and flounder fried with sides of baked potato and cole slaw. They served us 6 shrimp and two pieces of flounder which was adequate for us. The shrimp and flounder were both fried to perfection and were very good. Had a 5:15 reservation for 9 and when we arrived ,we were told by a rude hostess that our table was given to another party because "it's first come ,first served". We noticed another empty table set for 10 and asked if we could have that table and were told no, because that was for another party scheduled to arrive in 20 minutes. We then asked about "first come, first served" and were told there's nothing they could do. We asked to speak to a a manager who never bothered to come out and speak to us.
