My fault for not booking an appointment. When They open I asked one of the owners (Chino) who was their master barbers or had the most experience. I'm an older professional who doesn't mind paying or tipping for a good service. He replied that everyone was great! After the wait, Ramon took my son and gave him a great hair cut loved it! BuT..... The owner's younger brother( I later found out) called my name. He was nice but INEXPERIENCED. Looking at the other barbers' work I was a little more confidentAfter making some mistakes With my beard I told him not to worry, so he just trimmed it down. I started to look at the mirror and saw more errors, he tried to fix them but I just told him to stop. He didn't even line my mustache straight. I asked for a hot towel shave and he shaved me with the electric shaver after the straight razor. My skin is burning and irritated!!!! The following picture is what I asked for and then the end result. By the way, I asked for a low taper and I don't think he even gave me a fade. Barber contacted me and apologized. I will give the shop another opportunity to make things better. Will update.

The first cut was acceptable, second cut was awful because I asked for a mid-fade and got a fohawk almost from how high up he went. Being that I didn't have a ton of information on who to go to in the valley I went for my third haircut here and tried to explain exactly how I'd like my haircut. The barber said he couldn't do it because blablabla, it's funny because he almost had it the first time which is why I came back to begin with AND every other professional and LICENSED barber that I've ever been to does the cut with their eyes closed. He finished up and I checked out what he did, being disappointed, I explained in the nicest way possible to correct a few problems I found. He did a quick "fix" and had me on my way. However, I did not want a fade (we used to call them "white walls"). Jacob listened to the kind of cut I wanted and did exactly as I requested. For 20 years, every place I've been to in the RGV, the barber wants to used clippers and zip up the sides. Jacob knows how to use clippers, but he took his time and did the job with scissors, and I love the results. All the while, great conversation, a positive and professional atmosphere, clean shop, friendly people... AND very affordable. Highly recommended. The Upper Room Barbershop is located on the south side of the little strip mall on the corner of North 23rd and W. Ivy St. Facing the building from 23rd St., go around the left side where the parking lot is, and in the rear you will see the back entrance with the barber's pole sign.
