We contacted Pearson's despite the fact that my Dad was living in New Jersey at the time of his passing, because of the beautiful job they did with my aunt's funeral in 2010. Twelve years later, despite many complications due to COVID, Jane and her team did an even more beautiful job coordinating services for us. They navigated and overcame hurdles like the closing of our church for electrical work and a lack of available workers to open up the grave site, allowing us to focus on other things and mourn our loss. Dad looked so wonderful and peaceful, and everything from the set up of the room with his memorabilia to live streaming of the services was taken care of at our request. I am so grateful to Pearson's, and while I hope it's a long time before I need their services again, I know I can trust them to get everything perfect when I do. Thank you all.

Pearson's caused me extra stress and were a detriment to planning the memorial for my father. Per my father's wishes, we had a small private funeral for my father with a memorial about a month later. Since I live the closest, dealing with the funeral arrangements primarily fell on me & my husband. You already know that it's going to be difficult to say good bye and see your beloved father at the viewing. Add to that finding the clothes he DIED IN left in a folded pile next to the casket! Luckily, my husband and I were the first people in the room. We quickly disappeared the clothes to our car's trunk, before my aunt & other relatives could see them. They didn't even give us something to carry the clothes in, despite my having brought his funeral clothes on multiple hangers with a bag for his shoes & unmentionables. As for the memorial which was part of the plan I signed for, they were completely detrimental to planning it. I REALLY needed help planning the memorial, because I was falling apart with grief. Pearson's made it 10x worse by saying they would help coordinate with the church, but never actually contacting the church about the service. My family & I planned it all, very last minute & so stressful. Then we find out two days before the service, that they were planning to send staff to the memorial - without having ever having communicated that previously & to do jobs that I had already asked friends to take care of. Obviously, I told them not to bother sending their staff. Pearson's did remove the memorial fees from my bill. I would much rather have paid the fee in return for the assistance I needed. I would not recommend them to anyone.

With the snags we couldn't control and those that I created, he handled everything and took the burden off of us. Thank you!! As a native of Emmaus, I have been to more funerals at Schantz Funeral Home than I can count. I always appreciated that for every one, there were "senior" Emmaus natives who I recognized from my dad's generation guiding the many guests and managing the parking and processionals to the cemetery with such kindness and solitude. I appreciate the legacy and tradition of the Schantz family that Dustin embraced and continues for this Emmaus community as the "home" to go to, without question, when a loved one passes. Nobody likes to deal with funerals, and I'm no exception, but if you have not had to "do" one for a…read morefamily member, I hope you'll find this helpful, as I have had to do a few in our family. This is probably not the cheapest funeral home in town, but I was ok with that because I wanted to go here for two reasons: I knew from earlier funerals in our family that the people here are compassionate without being oozing, and our family had used them before so it felt kind of traditional to let our family be laid to rest by the company the deceased probably expected to do the job. This funeral home was recently bought by Trexler Funeral Home. If they had to be bought by anyone, I am glad it was not a chain. My experiences with Burkholder took place before this acquisition. I have been to Trexler funerals (which seemed just fine) but I have not planned with them, so I cannot say anything much about them or how their practices may affect Burkholder... I can only say that I hope Burkholder does not change. In particular, we were very pleased to work with Matthew, who was properly understated but not grim or cold, and not hard sell either. He was very good about presenting options and allowing us to choose what suited our family. He and the firm went the extra mile on a few things, things too personal and identifying to go into here, but just know if they can accommodate your wishes, they will. Matthew has a gentle humor and good knowledge all around. They were very good about advising how to handle certain sticky questions about cremation, post-funeral luncheons, and etiquette questions too. We did learn a lot through both funerals. You are not required to use their florist or a cremation urn they provide by sale. They will help you with the obituary and can advise on costs for that depending on your newspaper. They do not provide funeral programs though they are equipped to create funeral cards at a nominal fee. If there is a veteran or Social Security benefit the deceased qualified for, they can help you file for it. Our most recent cremation service, for reference, was about $7000, plus our pastor's fee. Our family did one graveside funeral with them, and one at the church. In both cases, their personnel were there on time and appropriately welcoming to everyone. Everything went off perfectly. I hope the next time we have to plan a funeral is a long way away, but when the next one in Allentown comes, it is almost guaranteed we will count on Burkholder's once more.
