This is a long story that I will keep short. They were always answering the phone and making false promises to me for our order of 300 trees which we had a contract for. David Bailey was my contact who I had spoke to a half dozen times from June until mid November. Then, a week before delivery was to happen, they ghosted our Boy Scout Troop and refused to answer my calls or our treasurer's calls. Bottomline, our troop was unable to have our annual Christmas tree fundraiser because of this. This is not a trustworthy or dependable company. Get your tree here, you won't be sorry!! We stumbled on the Cedar Grove Christmas tree lot while running some errands between Montclair and Willowbrook. It's located right between the two on Rt 23. From the moment we walked in we were treated like cherished customers. The friendly young man that helped us immediately started asking us questions to figure out what tree would best meet our needs. He was very knowledgeable about trees and made no attempt whatsoever to up-sell us. In fact, he seemed to be steering us towards the cheaper Balsam Fir, although in the end we decided on the somewhat more expensive Frazier Fir. All of the trees on the lot seemed very fresh, and they were all nicely shaped. I waited a few weeks to write this review, so I could see how the tree held up, and so far it is healthy and strong. We will probably buy our tree here again next year. Why only 4 stars? I'm not a huge fan of their nickel & dime tactics. They charge extra for trimming the base and netting the tree, things that every other lot I've ever seen includes automatically. Don't say your trees are cheaper than others and then hide costs that are already incorporated into most others prices. I will come here year after year. The young men working here are polite and so helpful. We picked out the perfect tree within 5 minutes. They netted the tree, helped us pick out a stand, and tied the tree to our car. The tree is in great condition. So full and symmetrical, which is hard to find with a natural tree. The prices can't be beat, either. A tree of this size at Home Depot for example would've been at least 50% more. read more

What an amazing find! Family-run and everyone was so friendly, a young man helped us from start to finish select a tree, bag it, and help us to our car. They had a great selection and everything looked so fresh, which is always something I worry about when going to a pre-cut stand for a tree. Prices were reasonable and included a package with tree food and a clean up bag. This is definitely the place to go if you live just outside of NYC like us and are unable to go cut down a tree, but still want something fresh and beautiful. Since we moved to Cedar Grove this has been our go-to spot! The prices are pretty decent compared to others and the selection is usually very good. This year however according to the guy that works there the trees are a lot smaller this year I did not find a good selection like I did last year but I did not leave empty-handed either. What a great experience. Hasn't had a live tree in almost twenty years. Now that the kids and dogs were more mature, the wife and I decided to try it out. I grew up seeing this place and heard great things from friends about Cedar Grove Trees and decided to try it out. They did not disappoint! Wonderful service. Second generation of family is now running the business. Met the owner, he was there with his brother, in-laws, cousins and his little son was there learning the business (cute kid). The young man helping my wife decide on what to get was so pleasant. We ended up getting a Douglas Fir. The house smells like the Christmas I remember. Thanks for letting me relive my memory and building a new tradition for the family. Can't wait to go again next year. read more

This Company has not fulfilled its order that our church placed. We paid a premium price for trees and over $7k in freight costs. They were supposed to deliver 200+ trees the week of November 15 to us and to a Nursery in the area. They have not answered their phone, they have not responded to our emails and when someone did finally get through, we were given a "story" about the truck being somewhere in Nova Scotia and no one having the phone number of the truck driver. Another nursery was also not provided with the over $20k of trees they purchased. Buyer beware!!!!! read more

The website is so misleading it borders on false advertising! Instead of going to our usual place I thought I could find something better. When we got there, I was shocked that it was a relatively small parking lot on a main road with almost all of the trees leaning against the fence. I was so shocked and embarressed (I made my husband and one year old be in the car for 20 minutes for this) that I told my husband I must have clicked on the wrong directions and this is the wrong place. I looked it up again and he said the site looks nothing like the lot. My biggest regret is not taking a photo to show you what it looks like in reality. It is absolutely disgusting how misleading the website is! The ONLY reason I am even giving 2 stars is because someone did greet us right when we walked in (we were the only ones there though) and even though we didn't get a tree somebody still wished us a Merry Christmas as we were getting in the car. I would normally not mention another business in a review but I do believe that CedarGroveChristmasTrees is purposely and knowingly misleading people. We will be going back to our regular place Stone Brook Garden Center in Saddle Brook. They may not have a great looking website but they ACTUALLY DO HAVE ROWS of trees that are all standing upright and open! All different sizes and prices. read more

I've shopped here 3 years in a row but this year will be the last time. I will say that the young man on the lot who helped us was amazing. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I was asked to speak to the owner about delivery and as the owner was walking in, I asked him a question. He rudely dismissed me (he was an older gent). This is after I just dropped $150 on a douglas fir, which incuded delivery and set up. Their prices also went up ($50 for delivery and set up? Are you kidding me?) I didn't appreciate his attiude at all. Their website is also misleading. It isn't a farm, it's a parking lot of trees. For the money I spend here, I'd rather drive farther out and deal with the inconvenience of doing that. I'm not spending my money here again. read more

Cedar grove tree lot is a family owned business with friendly and knowleable workers and beautiful trees. Our first tree we bought here lasted well into January. There is a nice selection of trees, table top trees and wreaths. I highly recommend you take a ride to this tree lot! read more

It is not a tree farm with rows of healthy open trees--it is a parking lot with most trees bound up, so you cannot see them. Then to net them up again they charge a fee! read more

This place sucks! Avoid at all costs! Thanks to them our Christmas is ruined this year. We purchased a groupon and were told that our tree will be delivered on friday. "Your Christmas Tree is scheduled for delivery this evening. If you are unable to be home, please make arrangements to accept your tree or advise us where you would like it dropped. Merry Christmas!" We waited and waited but nobody came. At around 10pm, we got this email : "Our delivery crew is experience major traffic delays due to weather. Unfortunately, we will be unable to deliver your tree this evening. Deliver crews will make up these stops tomorrow. We are unable to give specific delivery times for tomorrow and we can not answer specific questions regarding timeframes or delivery windows. Our drivers will call 30-60 minutes prior to deliver." So on Saturday, we waited for a WHOLE DAY .. emailed them a few times and they never replied. At 9.22pm .. an email came in with subject "Delivery Cancellation" "Due to weather related delays harvesting trees this season, we are sorry to inform you that your Christmas tree order has been cancelled. We will honor you Groupon or LivingSocial vouchers during the 2014 delivery season or you may request a refund directly from our marketing partners. If you have paid a delivery fee, you will be refunded within 5-10 business days. We apologize for the inconvenience. Cedar Grove Christmas Trees" So .. they had delays/problems harvesting trees this season ..why were we told our tree was on the truck for delivery on Friday? My mother in law found this place online when looking for a new place to get Christmas trees. She had been going to Strawberry Blossoms in Wayne for years, but was stuck when they went out of business earlier this year. It was definitely not worth the trip. We pulled into a mud filled lot that could probably hold 5 cars. When we walked in we were surprised to see a small lot, not a giant farm like many of the photos on the website depicted. A lot of the trees were small, but we saw one that wouldn't look strange in a room with 10 ft ceilings. We were shocked to see that it had a price tag of $109.99 when they advertised $39.99 trees. One of the employees told us the price was more because it's harder for them to get those types of trees and it takes 2 years longer for them to grow to the proper height. All in all, we ended up leaving. The selection wasn't big and the lot definitely was not delivered as advertised. read more

The young man was patient with me (I like to check them all out) and was very knowledgeable about the different types of tree. The Frasier fir tree we got here this year was amazingly fresh. The young man who helped us was also extremely nice. However, a few things annoyed us. There were extra costs to cut the bottom off the tree and wrap it?? This has usually been considered a part of the tip (at least at all the other places we've gone to for the past 30 years). Also the website advertised a price of $49.99 and the price had gone up to $59.99. After the tax and extra costs, the total was $69.99. We still tipped the young man very well, so the tree total was almost $80.00. read more

Shopping for a Christmas tree can be a bit of an overwhelming endeavor, especially in New York City. How do I get my 8' fir on the Subway? Does it have to pay its own fare? Do I have enough strong friends who are willing to haul it with me? Should I rent a truck and drive out to Jersey or Long Island? Maybe I'll just have another 4' Charlie Brown tree this year... But Cedar Grove made it easy for me to have the most majestic tree right in the middle of my living room. I happened upon their amazing deal on Groupon, followed the easy instructions to pay a minimal delivery fee online, and THE FOLLOWING DAY (!!) a beautiful 8' Fraser Fir was delivered right into my living room in Queens by an extremely friendly and warm delivery man who made hauling that giant fir look like child's play. The whole experience was pleasant, friendly, and efficient. And it was SUCH A GOOD DEAL. I was at the Home Depot a couple of days later and saw comparable (if not smaller) trees for more than twice the price, and with a steeper delivery fee. I would recommend this company to all of my friends. In fact, I already have. I wish everything about Christmas was this wonderful! Thank you Cedar Grove. First year buying our tree here, spotted the lot when we were having lunch at the Pilgrim Diner. We've had an artificial tree in the past but our new house doesn't have the storage space for one so this was our first live tree in quite a while! They had a great selection and wonderful customer service. We wound up taking home a big fir that smells a heck of a lot better than our old fake tree did. What a great find! They have a great selection of Balsam, Fraser and Douglas Christmas Trees. The person who helped us was polite and took his time to find our family our perfect tree. My husband , daughter and I drove an hour thinking that our experience would match what was presented on the website. When we arrived at the destination, I thought something must be wrong with the GPS?! The website shows aerial shots of a beautiful farm with tons of trees and mentions wreaths and greenery and a retail store etc. The GPS dumped us out at some teeny tiny lot with some trees and a trailer. My husband called it a "bait and switch" and that's pretty much what it was. I spoke to Rocco, the owner, and he was definitely polite and courteous..but unmoved by his decision to represent an alternate reality on his website. This is all probably fine if you are local and just looking for a tree....not fine if you are looking for what the website portrays. read more
