It is hard to find a handy man (or woman) who knows what they are doing and does it well at a…read morereasonable cost. Paul and his crew at PNW Home Improvements are that person. Here are just a few of the tasks that PNW Home Improvements completed for me at my home last week: Paint rusty roof vent. Replace hinges on door. Clean sills on windows. Move dirt in contact with wood siding outside. Add latches to casement windows. Replace closet rods. Clean bathtub caulk line and recaulk grout. Install kickplate on screen door. Replace pergola cover. Clean up garage. Remove trash to dump. Fix faucet on laundry tub. Paul picked up the phone on Saturday night and the next day he came to my house and ran through the list of my projects. He took a picture of each task and later that day sent me a quote with a punch list of items and a link to the pictures. The next week he came by with an assistant to start work and they kept working until they were done. As each task was completed Paul took pictures and added them to the online notebook. What I liked about Paul: *He responds promptly to my texts and calls. *He is honest and provides careful estimates of projects and sticks to them. *He knows what he is doing and does his work quickly and carefully. I trust Paul and his PNW Home Improvements team to do a good job.

I was trying to get away with yet another summer in my 1960's apartment + original windows without an AC unit. With our impending heat wave of almost a week of 99+ degrees I needed this project done ASAP. I contacted him on Tuesday night and we scheduled for Friday for an initial scope out. Saturday the job was done, and under his estimated costs. I was happy to pay his weekend rates for this project but will book him out further for other jobs. Thank you Paul, you were fantastic.

Since it is a large deck on a on a slope, we knew it was not something we could do ourselves. After listening to our hopes and ideas, they developed a couple concepts for us to consider before we settled on a plan. After we agreed on the concept Victor and John came and gave us their appraisal and bid in a very timely manner. Although they had other projects before us, they began gathering materials and doing the new foundations for the new deck in early November. Although cost does enter the picture, they were fair in their understanding of our goals and needs and stayed on our agreed upon budget. Their requests for a deposit and funds along the way were reasonable. When we needed an additional week for the funds to come into our accounts as additional materials were ordered and delivered, they understood and continued the work. It was easy to communicate with them through person to person, phone calls, e-mails and/or texts. We decided to go with the Rocky Harbor Trex design and watched each day as the project progressed until it was done. Even with the November winds and rain, they showed up and worked throughout each day. Their work ethic and skills are second to none! When it was done, the new deck exceeded our expectations not only for the design, but also the stability, their professionalism, keeping us informed throughout the process, and their understanding of the many questions we had along the way. The photos below show the end product that we are looking forward to using more in the coming days. A definite 5 Star Review and recommendation!

When I bought my house the builder didn't complete the deck rail and it was a safety issue, so Victor came and completed the work and added a bonus rail! Our deck was nearing the end of its life. We sought out multiple deck contractors and just about…read moreevery one of them said it was unsalvageable and that we should replace it. However, replacing the deck would mean having to update it to current building codes and permits, which would then mean having to hire an engineer for our small 6' x 14' deck... Bruce came over, took a look and casually said, we can add more supports and fix the deck instead of having to replace it. He walked us through all the repairs he would do, he listened to our concerns and wrote up an estimate that weekend. I choose to hire him because of his straightforwardness in answering all my questions, he was so down to earth and friendly, I felt like he was trustworthy. We went from potentially having to wait months and spend $20,000 on a new replacement deck to spending about $5,000 on repairs and taking considerably less time. They were booked out till about October and would contact us when the time came closer, they did just that and were able to fix the deck in a day. We hired him to come back to build a 2nd retaining wall, his son came out and built it in less than an hour. They used high quality materials, I feel like the wood used will last a long time. A year later, we noticed that the deck was starting to sink and consulted with Bruce. He came over, took a look and figured it was probably the ground material was soft and causing the deck to sink. He offered to fix it, FREE OF CHARGE. It wasn't his fault the ground was soft, it just shows how much integrity he has in his work. Hands down, I would recommend him to anyone. My neighbor immediately asked for his contact!

Wouldn't recommend.

Our home was in need of difficult prep work, experience in correctly working with the potentiality of lead paint, undoing and repairing the previously shoddy workmanship, and taking the necessary time, patience, and care to give our home the love it deserved to look like always wanted it to. Comparing PPR with other painting contractors we worked with is night and day. It was immediately apparent that PPR was better trained and more accustomed to working on older Portland homes than anyone else. The amount of care and craft they put into the prep needed for our house was exactly the attention to detail you'd want to see in a project like this. And the end result has left us so happy. We have delighted in watching both neighbors and strangers walk by and take pictures of our new paint job, and have loved chatting with them about the exceptional work that was done. Recommending Portland Painting & Restoration has been a no-brainer. All have agreed their work looks outstanding. PPR's communication, transparency, deep knowledge, craftsmanship, skill, *pride in their work*--everything top to bottom--has been top notch. These are the professionals you are looking for. No question about it.

I may have found a lifelong partnership with this paint and carpentry business. Thank you, PP&R, for your consistency, professionalism, and dedication to keeping pricing affordable for the quality of work produced. Until next time.
