Title: Hostile Environment, Public Body Shaming, and Toxic Management
I am deeply appalled by the behavior of the staff and management at the Cedar Falls Recreation Center. Recently, an employee publicly targeted and humiliated me over a dress code policy. Instead of addressing the matter professionally, this staff member chose to shout passive-aggressive, derogatory comments across a public area filled with families, openly body-shaming me in front of other patrons.
When I contacted the facility manager, Mike, to report this abusive staff behavior, his response was completely unacceptable. Instead of remaining objective or professional, Mike actively condoned the harassment. He defended his employee's public mockery and used his own toxic sarcasm to make disrespectful jokes about my personal "laundry schedule."
Enforcing a policy is one thing, but allowing staff to publicly mock residents and having a manager who uses sarcasm to gaslight patrons creates a hostile and toxic environment. Mike's severe lack of conflict-resolution skills and unprofessional conduct are a massive liability for a city-operated facility. This management actively breeds a culture of bullying. Cedar Falls residents deserve a safe, respectful environment, not a management team that participates in workplace misconduct and customer harassment. Avoid this facility until city administration addresses leadership. read more
