Brand spanking new Italian restaurant in the middle of Prestwick's busy main street, Cecchini's has taken over the location from Anise Indian (sob sob). I had the quattro stagioni pizza (£6.95) and a portion of spicy fries. The pizza was pretty decent, nicely crisp, golden brown and properly cooked all the way through. What can I say, it was yum!
On the vegetarian front, should anyone tire of pizza (as if) or penne arrabiata (definitely) the peperoni ripeni main course caught my eye "stuffed pepper roasted with tomato & basil risotto, topped with mozzarella & drizzled with pesto". I LOVE pesto!
Our waiters were attentive and friendly, the vibe was relaxed and I loved the smart decor. Cecchini's has none of the twee paraphenalia usually found in an Italian restaurant - not a raffia covered chianti bottle with red candle in sight. The wallpaper is pretty cool and features images of Italy in the medium of old black and white postcards. Nice one!
The menu is very reasonably priced and they do takeaway also. Drinks are on the steep side with the cheapest pint of draught lager coming in at around £4.20 a pint, and a large glass of cordial £1.80, but the wine isn't silly prices. When you add the food and drink together the bottom line bill is not extorionate.
