I go through phases, but this is probably my number one favourite restaurant on the entire planet…read moreright now. The street scene on Glasgow Vennel never fails to send me back in time - an old cobbled street, including the flax heckling shop ( an old stone cottage) which is a Burns heritage site. Inside, the ambience is good in the old school Italian style, and the atmosphere gets very hale and hearty as the evening progresses with all those Ayrshire families enjoying themselves! On my last two visits to family in Ayrshire, this is where we went, and it was been clean plates all round for us, from my niece (age 10) to my mother (aged 70+). Pizza for me, calzone for my sister, chicken for mother, and pizza & chips plus homemade ice cream and more elaborate desserts for the kids. All done to a T - see the photos from my sister's phone which I've uploaded. I wouldn't call it high glamour, but prices are reasonable (£9.25 for the most expensive pizza) and the value for money and wholesomeness of the food is unbeatable. In conclusion, it would take a lot to make me want to try a different restaurant in the Irvine/Kilwinning area.

This is a lovely restruant with a really good Italian menu at very reasonable prices…read more The staff are welcoming and attentive. The most exciting thing is you can have any pasta dish gluten free there are so few restaurants in Irvine that offer this and a dietary restriction can make eating out so difficult. Well done Adesso we will definitely be back.

Cecchinis has a local reputation for being a solid Italian restaurant. My daughter's mother-in-law…read moreand I were spending the day shopping and stopped in for a quiet dinner. Our dining experience was marked with good food and excellent service. Andy was AMAZING!!! He is a very professional server that goes above and beyond to provide the best experience possible. Calling our cab as we were finishing up our meal was a nice touch and very appreciated. They have a full bar and are quick with the drinks. If you order a mixed drink it will come with the shot of alcohol in a tall glass and a cold bottle of soda along side it. The presentation is very refreshing. For dinner we went simple with two pasta dishes and garlic bread. For appetizers we both decided on the fried mozzarella sticks. One of our meals came with meatballs that were very dry. This made them unappealing but the red sauce was delicious. The second pasta meal was macaroni with a sauce that was a blend of cheeses. This was outstanding and a recommendation by our server. Our appetizers came with a tart cranberry sauce and were very good.

I had the quattro stagioni pizza (£6.95) and a portion of spicy fries. The pizza was pretty decent, nicely crisp, golden brown and properly cooked all the way through. What can I say, it was yum! On the vegetarian front, should anyone tire of pizza (as if) or penne arrabiata (definitely) the peperoni ripeni main course caught my eye "stuffed pepper roasted with tomato & basil risotto, topped with mozzarella & drizzled with pesto". I LOVE pesto! Our waiters were attentive and friendly, the vibe was relaxed and I loved the smart decor. Cecchini's has none of the twee paraphenalia usually found in an Italian restaurant - not a raffia covered chianti bottle with red candle in sight. The wallpaper is pretty cool and features images of Italy in the medium of old black and white postcards. Nice one! The menu is very reasonably priced and they do takeaway also. Drinks are on the steep side with the cheapest pint of draught lager coming in at around £4.20 a pint, and a large glass of cordial £1.80, but the wine isn't silly prices. When you add the food and drink together the bottom line bill is not extorionate. Free wifi, easy free parking a short walk along the road. Special offers and set menus at certain times and particular days. Check em out!

The fake fireplace humoured us at first but later on we forgot about it and it seemed like the real thing. We were happy, warm, and in good spirits. To start off, we were surprised with a humongous portion of fresh steamed mussels in a savoury tomato broth. This was expertly timed to be followed by our platefuls of freshly made pasta. Gorgeous was the creamy carbonara with Parmagiano and Amatriciana, which were wallops of a finish to the nights eats. The staff were lovely, the male wait person in particular was very accommodating and his sincerity was felt. We really wanted to do dessert..but alas again too full! Must come again to peruse the menu further and delight in desserts.

Why did I not see Donald and Peter's rave reviews before now? The world is a cruel and wicked place, but I have to let bygones be bygones and accepted that I am, indeed, a douche for not finding this place sooner. Nestled in Mount Florida near Hampden Park, you wouldn't necessarily find this little place. From the outside it looks nothing more that your typical Italian joint. Almost neglected you may say. There's nothing particularly appealing about the shop front. Furthermore as they have no website I had no real idea what to expect food wise. So, I went in completely blind, not knowing anything. First impressions were excellent, very cosy, only 8 or 9 tables, nice Italian music in the background, the chatter of Italian in the kitchen and amongst the waiters. It all boded very well. We ordered some drinks and after a quick rummage through the menu (which all looked great, and very well priced) we were recited the specials of the day. In true Italian style we took the plunge and went for a mega feast of four courses. Nothing particularly challenging for a Wednesday night I must say. To begin, we had a duo of bruschettas - one, a classic tomato and the other with friarielli (or Italian wild broccoli). Afterwords we had a wonderful seafood caserecce pasta dish (primo) with fresh clams and squid. It tasted just like the real stuff I would get in Italy. After, yes there was more (or a secondo), a huge fitto misto (which we shared) which is basically battered and fried seafood. The batter was so light and crisp, and served with lemon its a simple and easy dish that is difficult to top. Finally for desert was a home-made amarena cherry and amaretto cheesecake. It was oh so rich and creamy. Exquisite!!! All this was washed down with some rather darn fine Soave white wine, and the best part was the final bill, incredibly good value for money considering the quantity and the amazing quality of the food we had. I could not recommend this place enough. A real proper Italian restaurant, which is going straight into my top Italian eateries list. I simply cannot wait to go back.
