But this time, everything went smoothly thanks to two amazing staff members -- Veronica and Marie. They treated my child with patience, empathy, and so much kindness. They took their time explaining what was happening, used such a gentle approach, and somehow made my child feel calm and safe the entire time. What's normally one of our hardest days turned into one of our easiest, and that meant the world to me as a mom. You can tell this office hires people who truly care about their patients. Veronica and Marie went above and beyond, and I couldn't let any more time pass without publicly thanking them. The doctor was able to recommend a couple of tests and it was ultimately decided that I have alpha gal, the red meat allergy. I was very glad that he recommended those tests for me. The visit and the results delivery could have been a lot better. During the visit he seemed cold, and when I listed some supplements/vitamins that I take or may take on a given occasion instead of medicine, he made a comment "with all of this no wonder you have symptoms". I don't take any medicine and take normal supplements unless I'm sick and then I may take other remedies. His comment was very unnecessary, and he didn't have all of the information on the paper so I clarified for him. Then when I was given the results, I was told I could never eat red meat again and that I needed to take Loratidine every day for the rest of my life. I did a little research on my own and discovered from the Mayo Clinic that if you're blood levels decrease, you may be able to eat it again, so I went to another allergist who specializes in desensitization, and he did some research on his computer and discovered that there had been success with desensitization in a couple of cases in another country. I decided to try desensitization on my own with the help of his advice, and was very successful, and I'm able to eat red meat in small quantities (larger quantities of pork), so now I don't have to worry that there might be an ingredient in something that's going to kill me. I wish I had gone to the other allergist first, but I'm really glad that I got the advice I did. Other than that, this office was clean and professional, and his assistant who called me was friendly, but I just don't recommend him.

Dr. Nickerson was completely unprofessional and rude and got into my face and told me to "stop with my comments". I responded that he has trouble with communication. Her response was that she has a son and boys can communicate just fine. This is not a comparison of her child who I have never met. Nor does this have anything to do with gender. As a parent I have the right to ask questions and help my son communicate his needs. I also need to mention that she initially refused to check his vision claiming there is a 2 year expiration on his glasses prescription. It was an eye appointment and we were there to determine if his vision had changed. I had to push her into checking his vision which is unbelievable considering she was billing our insurance for the eye vision check.
