Life changing - as a marathon runner, I have had two years of injuries that would not heal, went to every MD specialist + PT with minimal results. If you have a never-ending tweak in your body, that doesn't seem to get better....run...if you can, don't walk to Craig! Since late October 2020 I had, what I would call, a "tweak" in my lower back that my much beloved day-to-day massage therapist could not massage away - she even suggested finding someone with a deeper level of training. Eventually, I went to a chiropractor, who told me it was also muscular, which then prompted me to start looking for a therapeutic massage place that truly engages in bodywork on the next level. I turned to the trusted internet, found out about a thing called "neuromuscular massage" and then asked Yelp to help find me someone in Boston, who knew such a thing. Because I like to be thorough, the week before my upcoming appointment with Craig, for the tweak I have had for 7 months, and while annoying, it was a manageable tweak, I helped carry two BBQ grills to the 5th floor of a brownstone roof deck, aggravating said tweak to the point that I could not get up from a flat position without rolling on my side and pushing myself out of bed, the first few steps I had to take hunched over until some stretching would take the edge off. If you are still with me, stay! We are almost there. So far, I had two appointments with Craig and people, it's been truly remarkable. I would have been delighted and *mind blown* if he had restored me to pre-BBQ carrying condition, level: pre-BBQ tweak, but within a day or two after the first massage, while still tender, even that tweak from October 2020 was dissipating. I was able to PLANK. I mean, I could only hold it for 20 seconds - thanks pandemic laziness, but I couldn't even plank before because my lower back was all "hell no". A week later, on the second massage, Craig was able to go into the problem areas deeper and really work on deeper triggers. Again, improvements continue for the days after the massage. Oh. And while at it, he's also taken my "hunched over laptop forever tight shoulders" and restored them to some kind of "walking upright human" posture. So yes. Run, walk, crawl, or be carried to Craig. Craigs methodology includes one of the most important things about muscular therapy and massage, which so few therapists do. Asking questions. He was able to figure out that I was having displaced pain in my shoulders, and worked areas that I didn't think would even help some upper back pain. A few hours later and the pain had subsided, after he worked out knots in my shoulders and back using various techniques. After 3 months of intense half marathon training and the usual wear and tear of my job, I had a pulled hamstring and a knot in my shoulder that was making me miserable. I called last minute and luckily Craig had an evening cancellation and was able to work me in (there's an easy online booking tool on their website). Craig greeted me and asked me what brought me in and then did an assessment of my injuries to figure out the best way to proceed. I'm sure he can do a massage for relaxation, but this was a true sports massage. He really focused on the areas which I came in for which has always been a frustration with other massage therapists. Craig is the best bodywork specialist I've ever come across. I've had chronic shoulder pain for years, and have tried all sorts of remedies--yoga, swimming, chiropractors, weight-lifting, and ordinary massage--without any of them having much effect for more than a few hours. After a few minutes of exercises and thoughtful questions, Craig was able to pinpoint what he thought was the problem, and within a few minutes after our first session, I suddenly seemed to have more space in my shoulder than I had had in years. I then visited Craig about once or twice a week for about a month, for short sessions (15 mins), during which he'd massage my neck and rub down various tendons around my shoulder. Now my shoulders are feeling as close as they've ever been to normal, and I can swim, lift weights, and do yoga more comfortably and with more strength than I could before. Craig strikes just the right balance in every way: his techniques are forceful but never aggressive or agony-inducing, and he's super friendly without being pushy or intrusive. I just had a fantastic massage session with Sergey Yurov. As a Yoga teacher and a competitive adult figure skater, I am very picky with finding a good massage therapist whom I am comfortable with. Without me even telling him about shoulder pain I recently developed (had started only a couple days prior to massage and wasn't bothering me enough to say anything) he mentioned it within the first few minutes. The most important things about Craig that set him apart are the fact that he is extremely results-oriented in his approach to treating you, and he is passionate about doing a good job for his clients. During the [full hour - not 50 minute] session Craig will hunt down the cause of problems you may not even realize your body has, and take aim at them with as many techniques and tools as it takes to make an improvement. What he charges is extremely reasonable compared with other therapists in the area, showing he is as committed to his profession and his clients as he is to operating a sustainable and successful business. BTW, if you call Craig and end up with one of his other therapists, don't worry; you are in good hands. I have been treated by others at CDF besides Craig, and I feel that Craig makes very good and careful choices about who he allows to work on his clients. I called Craig about 2 months ago when I was having some back pain and he has helped me tremendously. I'm not someone who suffers from serious chronic pain or who indulges in regular massages, but these weekly appointments have changed my opinion of what is possible from regular visits to a competent massage therapist. I've seen Bruce a handful of times now over the span of a year. He's amazing. I see him for therapeutic deep tissue massage and he has never disappointed. I've found that when seeing a massage therapist for an extended period of time, they can be inconsistent with the quality of service. I don't fault them for that - they're only human. But, not Bruce! He's so consistent with the level of care and attention he provides I'm so grateful. It's a bit pricey and I would normally try to find something in a better price range but it's worth every time. Love the 1 1/2 massage. I've gotten lots of different types of massages but when I go to Craig I feel like I'm getting more than a massage, it's more like physical theraphy. I rarely get professional massages, although i need them...being an aging dancer/choreographer/ teacher. Craig did an extensive history and checked out various aspects of my body mechanics before I even got on the table. He found the chronic trouble spots right away and gave me some serious deep tissue massage. I went back two more times within about six weeks. CDF Therapeutic Bodywork was recommended to me a couple of years ago by a physical therapist at Kennedy Brothers in Back Bay. He suggested massage as a therapy for dealing with the after-effects of a vehicle accident - lingering neck pain. To be honest, up until my first visit to Craig I had always considered massage as more of a "spa" treatment than a therapeutic treatment. I've been visiting Craig ever since as my "go-to" massage therapist. The great thing about his style is that it works for either relaxation (more of the "spa" type of thing) OR for therapy (to address specific muscle issues). I highly recommend him for anything you may need from stress management to addressing specific instances of pain, etc. He's very comprehensive with researching exactly what you're trying to address with the visit, instead of just giving you a "one-massage-fits-all" type of treatment. 5-stars! read more
