Buying my new Mirage in 2022 was a long negotiating process: 2 hours on the first visit & 3 hours…read moreon the final visit, when I had to remind them of specific prices quoted & what they were giving me for my traded car (from the first visit) I likened this process to a police interrogation
where they "wear you down," until you sign papers, just to get out of there.
My few interactions with their service dept. since then, have been a joke. The first time was for their "new car buyer free oil & filter change." They handed me a bill of $140.00 for that. About 20 minutes of back & forth, and they waived the fee.
Other than 3 tire purchases from their parts dept. (Since no tire places stock a 14" tire, and I keep getting nails in the shoulder, that can't be plugged) I have only taken it in one other time, for what I assumed would be "warranty work."
That was in June 2026, when my car was nearly 4 years old, with only 20k miles on it. The A/C was blowing very weak, on the coolest temp setting & highest fan speed.
I called to make an appointment to get it looked at. Their "virtual scheduler" does not allow you to ask questions. When I arrived, they said their would be a $175.00 diagnostic fee, plus, if it just needed the freon evacuated & recharged, (which is 90% of the time what is needed) it would cost me $750.00. I can't afford that. I thought to myself, "what good is a new car bumper-to-bumper warranty, that the sales people are quick to point out, while they are trying to sell you the car?"
I left PB Mitsubishi, hot from little A/C, very discouraged. I called a friend who is a mechanic at a Mercedes dealership. He listened to me (about my A/C problems,) and told me to change the cabin air filter.
I went to O'Reilly Auto Parts, and begged them to help me change out that part, and voila' the A/C was blowing so cold, I had to turn it down. All for a $25 part, and 2 minutes of the counter man's time
(and a $5 tip) and I was a happy camper!
The problem is, that sick feeling of almost being ripped off at PB Mitsubishi.
I currently have 2 other annoying problems with the car, that SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY, but I'm afraid to even deal with them.
