The soup of the day was the gaspatxo de sundria. As it was in the mid-80s F, cold soup was ideal. The quiche of the day was de carbasso i manxes. I haven't had quiche at a non-French restaurant before, but it was as delicious as I expected it to me. I was about to ask for the check when I noticed a chocolate cake near the entrance. It turned out to be a chocolate/peanut butter cake and reminded me of my favorite childhood candy, a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Both of the waitresses were very helpful. Their fluency of English was better than my Spanish.

Perhaps we came on an "off" day - it happens... but there's potential for greatness here. The soup was under-seasoned, and came out cold (we each sent ours back to get reheated)... and the salad was way too salty. I did like how it was more than just iceberg lettuce. The spring roll was also overly salty - but i liked the flavors. Ambiance - 5 stars Service - friendly but as typical here, rather slow - 5 stars food - has potential, but not great today... the menu has a nice variety though. 3 stars free wifi - ask for the code there's an art gallery downstairs, though at the time of my visit, it was between exhibits.

We were seated inside because all the outdoor tables were taken, which was absolutely fine. In the summer heat, the air conditioning was a welcome bonus. Our server was fantastic with wine pairing. We told her we wanted something a bit sweeter, and she recommended Turbio Vino blanco. It was perfect -- well chilled and a great match for the mussels. The food * Mussels with baby squid: Absolutely perfect. Tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The splash of red wine vinegar on the side elevated everything, and the fries were also well seasoned and went really well with the dish. * Mussels in white sauce (another server recommendation): Delicious. We devoured them. Rich, creamy, and full of flavor without being heavy. Every bite felt thoughtful and well executed. The portions were generous, the pacing was great, and the service struck that ideal balance between attentive and relaxed. A perfect meal in a city already full of great food. If you love mussels, this is a must-visit in Barcelona

We were served by a friendly couple, Argentinian transplants both, who chatted with us about jazz and idioms. I felt bad for the woman who brought us our empanadas, because she dropped the tray on the way to the table and exactly HALF of each of the three empanadas we ordered fell on the floor, so she had to bring us three new ones in addition to the halves we got to eat. (I did offer to eat the ones that fell, because hey, I do that in my house, but she just gave me a disgusted look.) My favorite empanadas were the espinaca (spinach, goat cheese, and nut) and the atun (tuna, onion, bechamel). They really stood out for the flakiness and lightness of their pastry crust.

I sent her to the spa to plan out a few things, not the least of which was trying to find her some good Colombian food for our final day in Spain. When she saw the Colombian flag outside and heard the music playing inside, her face lit up. I love to see her smile. We went in, and they had a full fresh juice menu, and she was so happy. She ended up drinking two giant glasses of Jugo Mora. We ordered food, and it was so good, and so much. She ate, danced to the music, and laughed. We talked about Colombia. The staff was welcoming and friendly. I cannot say thanks enough for making this night special.
