Management is rude, incompetent, apathetic, and grossly negligent and irresponsible with a God-complex. For the past two years, they have failed to provide a safe living environment for tenants, especially to ones with small children. In 2018, they moved in an attempted arsonist, with a pending felony in another state. They were disruptive 24/7.. loud arguments with profanities, thumping music, banging walls, smoking marijuana which stunk up my apartment, shady visitors at all hours of the night.. when I discovered the event (from a simple Google search) and began fearing for my safety, I reported everything to management. I was told to report to police because "I can't do anything about it". She swears he passed a background check, but there's no way. Even if he had - it was grossly negligent to move this person in (to a building full of single moms, no less) given the nature of the event and the involvement of firearms. Safety is a basic human right - one that I and that other moms in that building - have been deprived of for two years. I was told "if you don't like it, move". I was financially unable to move during those 2 years because I'm a single mom and I was in Nursing school to better my future for my child. When I began complaining on the strange behaviors in that apartment, the manager told the dangerous neighbors who I was, which apartment I was in, and told them to come talk to me because again "she couldn't do anything about it" (common theme, here) This was a gross violation of tenant confidentiality and my safety as this fueled their animosity towards me and began the 2 years of harassment I received. My car was keyed by these neighbors back in April. Despite concrete video evidence, he remains a tenant there while another girl was evicted for toilet papering her friend's place as an innocent prank. But the manager picks and chooses who she moves in based on who she likes. After totaling my vehicle and getting a replacement, that car was also keyed.. and not long after, the entire side of my mom's van was keyed. That's three vehicles keyed right under management's nose and nothing was done. I filed several incident and CAD reports against these neighbors through the PD when their harassment (beyond tampering with vehicles) turned into 'intimidation tactics" like trying to run me off the road, or following me out of my apartment and yelling threats and profanities. I would call the manager and tell her what was going on and she literally said "I wish you'd stop calling me and bothering me over petty stuff. I can't do anything about it". Other tenants are terrified to say anything for fear of becoming the next target to these neighbors or fear of retaliation from management such as eviction, with nowhere to go. I once overheard the manager slam her hands down on the desk and yell at another tenant "If everyone would shut up and mind their own damn business, things would run fine here!!" There are so many shady things happening here that upper management either doesn't know about or also tries to sweep under the rug.. background checks are entirely too lax, if done at all, and it's not fair to the good people who are trying to provide a safe home for their families. It's discriminatory against low-income people trying to do better for themselves. I spent 2 days cleaning my apartment from top to bottom (with several witnesses) before I moved out so I could get my security deposit back, minus the 7 days prorated rent during the move out. I took pictures and videos, so did my mom. Yet they kept over 90% of security deposit, despite what is considered "normal wear and tear" in the eyes of the LAW. Despite the fact that the apartments are not being updated between tenants like they're supposed to be (and some tenants moving in with their carpet smelling like pee or their stoves catching on fire..) I guess this is their feeble attempt at retaliation since I am currently pursuing a lawsuit against the complex and discussing this with the local news. So if you want to move into a straight up ghetto, this is your place. If you desire peace and safety, this is not the place for you. I have lost so much sleep over the past two years. I spent so many nights trying to figure out an escape plan and what I would be able to grab in the event of the neighbors burning the apartments down. (They also allow smoking indoors despite the federal smoking ban.. and two weeks in my new home and I am still trying to wash the smell out of all of my clothes.) I wanted to move and couldn't.. but I shouldn't have to move to feel safe in my own home. I've never been so happy to leave anywhere!

This review is concerning the cabin rental side of their business. The cabin (Appalachian View) was…read morebeautiful. It was clean and we really did enjoy our stay. The negatives, however, were all related to the abysmal customer service and general lack of care that the company had for us. When we arrived to the cabin, instead of reading over a welcome note like most rental cabins, we were given a (very) long list of things to NOT do in the cabin and exactly how much we would be charged for doing them. It sort of started things off with a negative tone, but it wasn't a big deal. These things included: -"Do not remove the batteries from the smoke detector" The detector in the living room didn't have a battery or even battery cover. -"Do not adjust the logs in the gas fireplace" The fireplace had no logs in it and was not gas. -"Do not rearrange the furniture on the deck" The deck had two rocking chairs overlooking the incredible view. The first time somebody sat in one of the chairs it broke to pieces. Luckily it was my fit brother-in-law and not my elderly grandmother who sat down first. Inspecting the other chair, they were clearly not meant for outdoor conditions. On the first day, I sat down to finish up a little bit of work and tried to log into the free WiFi, only to find that it required a password. The check-in note said that no password was required. We sent the company an e-mail asking for the guest login password, but didn't receive a reply until we checked out. The employee said that the WiFi didn't require a password and that we must have been doing it wrong. I don't have a computer science degree, but I know how to log into WiFi. It had a guest login password and the dismissive company representative was unbelievable. Also, two of the three beds had broken frames (we checked, the wooden frames were actually snapped in two) that caused the beds to lay very unevenly. To summarize, over the course of four days, this rental company showed little to no interest in ensuring that we had an enjoyable stay, even after we sent them two separate e-mails. We had a great vacation in spite of the furniture trying to kill us, no internet access, smoke detectors that didn't have batteries, and terrible sleep. If we could rent Appalachian View from a different company, we would in a heartbeat. But these guys have a lot to learn about retaining customers. Or, what seems more likely, is that they don't care about making money from the rental side of their business.

I have been buying & selling RE since 1984. Emailed Kaye Matthews @ this Remax about one of her…read morelistings. After 2 days with no response I called her office and was given the run around. Finally she called me back and was pissed I had left a message with her boss about her lack of response to me. I was working as a buyers agent for a client that was very interested in her listing. Kaye was very uncooperative and treated me like I knew nothing. Finally I had to get another Remax broker to let us in the listing. My client wanted to make an offer, at the time Kaye had this prop listed almost 2 years with 2 price reductions. Finally Kaye met with us so we could make an offer. While making the offer she mentioned that she had to speak with me about the commission split. She had advertised 3% co-broke split. She then had the balls to tell me right in front of my client that she would not pay me 3% because I had been a problem to her. She would only pay me a 2% commission. My buyer was upset by this and threatened to walk. Not representing her client/seller in any way properly. My buyer wanted the house and agreed to take care of me, so we went ahead with the offer which was accepted. My buyer was all cash and wanted a quick closing which Kaye said she could get done. Come closing day Kaye's sellers, a divorcing couple can't agree who will pay the RE commission so they don't sign. After 2 weeks nothing getting done the closing attorney tells me Kaye did not have both sellers sign the listing agreement, sheer incompetence on Kaye's part. So the selling wife was refusing to pay her 1/2 of the commission. The deal fell apart and then Kaye tells her sellers not to release the escrow deposit my buyer put up. Over 27 years of buying & selling I have never seen such an incompetent real estate agent. She did not represent her sellers to their best interest and was totally disrespectful of the buyer & buyers agent. Kaye Matthews of Remax Mt Realty is a scumbag low life that gives all real estate agents a bad name. Do not for any reason do business with Kaye Matthews as a buyer, seller or buyers agent. She will for sure screw up your deal and screw you!
