Can you believe this is the first time I've been to a Cava, any Cava? I mean, they're everywhere. I finally stopped by this one on Upper Rock Circle in Rockville after running some errands in the area. I got the build-your-own salad bowl. My base was the power greens with falafels. I piled on the toppings that sounded good to me: roasted eggplant dip, fire roasted corn, pickled onion, sumac slaw, persian cucumber, fiery broccoli, kalamata olives, pickles and garlic dressing. I'm not sure what happened, but I didn't get any of the slaw, broccoli, or pickled onion. I did get pita chips which I didn't ask for. So for what I did get, I did like. I was expecting the falafel balls to be warm but they were not. That was not a huge issue since this is a salad but they were also on the mushy side. I think falafel balls should be crispy since they're deep fried. I'm wondering if my bowl was made too far in advance since this was an online pick up order. I wanted to pick up my lunch after my errands and set a time for an hour and half from leaving my home. So the bowl could have been sitting for some time. I've tried to give this location a chance on 3 separate occasions and they just can't get right. They wanted to charge me for extra rice when I don't believe she gave me enough rice with her initial scoop and it's like this every time I come here. Same thing went with the toppings, I had to keep asking for more because the scoops were skimp. My bowl is $20 every time so I expect $20 worth of food. I think that's a fair trade. The build your own bowl that I ordered was delicious, and I love that it's unlimited toppings. Typical Cava experience, with no complaints, except that the ceiling was leaking as I was dining in. Came here today. Nice fresh options with very friendly staff. They smile and recognize the regulars which include myself. The only complaint is that they will wipe the tables and sweep the floors close to you when you are dining in. I visit CAVA pretty regularly for lunch during work. I love how quickly the line moves even during the lunch rush and the quality of food is always great. I have placed online orders at CAVA and I always find my bowls are a little small. That's why I am giving this location 4 stars. When you go in person and order, however, you get a very generously packed bowl. So I recommend parking and waiting in line if you have the time to get the most out of your purchase. I am vegan and it is very easy to figure out what toppings and sauces are vegan. CAVA does a great job labeling items that contain dairy or egg. I really like how many veggies are available and all the different colors of their produce and salads too. I pretty much add every vegan topping to my bowl. The flavors all mix well together. I get the falafel as my protein and I enjoy how soft and well cooked their falafel consistently is. Every now and then I splurge for their juice. It is such a treat to purchase that. They are all delicious and not too sweet. Overall this CAVA location is reliable, clean, and has great employees. For the folks that don't know what CAVA is: it is a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. You choose what ingredients to go into your bowl. This is considered on the healthy side as far as fast food restaurants go. I've visited many CAVAs since they are a chain. This one 4/5 for the location, 4/5 for the food, and 4/5 for the service. This is located in the new area across the street from the Home Depot. Parking is a little bit tight right outside the restaurant but I just park in the near store's parking. There is some seating inside but can easily get packed on a weekday as many employees get their lunch there. There are also a few tables just outside. When I came they were really busy but the line moved efficiently. They filled my bowl pretty well, but I would have loved for them to of course fill every space. Price for a bowl is around $11 now so I do want to get my money's worth. I like they you can choose to go half grains and half greens for the base and now they have a black lentils option. There is also pretty much unlimited toppings. Some proteins and toppings (like avocado) do cost extra though. But you can ask for pita bread on the side and this doesn't cost extra. The pita chips do, however. I normally just get a water cup since I am pretty frugal, but they do have some nice healthy juices (see pic). But I am glad they have a CAVA here when I need my healthy fast food fix. read more

One of my favorite restaurants. I like that I can build my own bowl and split the protein. I got half regular falafel and half spicy falafel. I preferred the regular falafel but the spicy falafel was still good. For the dips I got harissa and hummus which was the right amount that when I mixed the bowl I could get some in every bite. I order from this Cava frequently but today I messed up. I placed an on- line order for the incorrect location. When I went to pick up my order a young lady asked my name to help me locate my order. I really like Cava, the ingredients are fresh and visible so I can always add to my bowl based on the vibrant colors of the choices in front of me. Although, you can order ahead in the app, I much prefer to head inside and place my order. I typically do not find the same attentiveness of the "building" of my bowl when I order ahead. Some days I'm offered complimentary pita and other days I have to request it. I suggest downloading the app because you can earn points to spend after a whopping $80 dollars . More than once there has been a language barrier between myself and the individual preparing my food. So I find myself pointing or saying, "no not that one" almost every visit. read more

Happy this opened up really close to my work. I've been going here almost twice a week for lunch. The lines can get long, but they move fast. I also order through their app as well and pick up my order in the counter next to the cashier. Now, I have to say the consistency of the bowls vary a lot. Sometimes there is so little greens you can't even call it a salad bowl, while other times it is packed to the top. I wish they could be more consistent with this especially paying over $10 for a bowl. Food has always been good, but if you watching calories and sodium intake I would read over their nutritional guide. According to the Washington Post article: The harissa is surprisingly high in sodium, with 210 mg in a one-ounce serving, as are the meatballs, with 720 mg per serving. I love coming to CAVA! It's basically a Mediterranean version of chipotle. You get to choose your base, as well as all your toppings. I usually get a bowl to-go, which lasts me 2 meals! This location never has a line when I go, so the service is really quick. If you're looking for a quick and healthy meal, I would definitely recommend CAVA. A first visit to this CAVA location and gotta say, it was one of the worst dining experiences, ever! First off, my friend and I went to the counter to order. He went first. Then when it was my turn, I said that I wanted a White Rice Bowl. The worker guy kept saying, "A white rice bowl? Are you sure?" And I said yes, just white rice. He again repeated, "White Rice Bowl? That's it? Rice bowl?" I again told him yes. And again he repeated, "You want White Rice? Anything else?" I said no. I couldn't understand why it was so difficult for him to comprehend that I simply wanted a White Rice Bowl to start with! Why question the customer?!? I've never had an issue like this at any other CAVA! Then I heard him say a bad word in Spanish, and since I know Spanish, I understood him. Did he think just because I was Asian, that I wouldn't know Spanish?!? Please... I ordered the bowl with Beef Meatballs, Eggplant, Harissa, Cucumber, Cabbage, Feta Cheese and Sriracha Yogurt. After my friend and I got seated, we were kind of disappointed with the food. The Grilled Beef Meatballs were dry, overcooked and hard. The toppings seemed a bit soggy and old. You know CAVA has reached popularity when they can build a standalone restaurant next to nothing but a CVS and still pack in a Chipolte length wait line. I don't know where everybody came from, but the design and wait of this one definitely mimicked a burrito joint when I stepped in at 1:PM. If you haven't been to a CAVA before, they deliver fresh, flavorful Mediterranean style bowls. It feels healthier than a burrito, but I'm sure once I add in all my feta, dips and dressings it's not too different. Tastes great though. A bowl will set you back $10. They also have pita sandwiches, a soup,and mini-pitas. I'll say again that it does seem like an odd location. Maybe there is more coming to the immediate area than is obvious. Hope they survive. It's LOUD in here. The employees have to shout at each other and the customers to be heard. This is the newer Cava that is located on Shady Grove rd. across from the Home Depot, Red Lobster, Bowlmore etc. It has a Firehouse Subs behind it. I've been here a couple of times recently and have been fairly impressed. Portions are large Service is friendly Food is fresh Food is well seasoned Whenever I've gone, there has been plenty of seating There's like 6 or so juice dispensers - I guess that's like par for the course but it's still something I enjoy about cava. Not that I like drink any of the specialty juices. But I do enjoy having small tastes of all of them before I decide on some form of iced tea or pop product. I really like the seasonal dressing currently. I think it's called Spicy Lime Tahini. It's quite good. I hope that the season is like... all year long... or they just add it to the menu; cause that jazz is legit. Recently they expanded their base offering to include black lentils which is nice. I stick to the Romaine lettuce Lemon Rice Chicken Falafel 2 scoop tzatziki 1 scoop eggplant Every single topping except for the hot peppers and my jazzy jazz dressing. It's a serious bowl.
