We loved looking around at all the animals that were there for the 4H and the animal auction. That part of the fair was really organized and had plenty of room to walk around. The rest of the fair was chaotic and crowded. There was barely any room to walk, the line to buy tickets for the rides was going from the booth almost to the building with the animals, it was crazy long. On top of that the tickets were pretty expensive and the ride lines were really long too. We ended up getting corn dogs, and even that was annoying. Because there are so many people and the space is no where big enough. There is no where to stand, the lines are just in the way and even when you get your food there is no where to sit and eat. I would probably not come back to this event because it didn't have enough to actually look at or do, and it was way to crowded and definitely hard to walk around.

I decided to call the Shanico Inn because I wanted something inexpensive since I wasn't going to be spending a lot of time in my room and didn't want to pay for a fancier place I wasn't going to be in for long. I called and made my reservation over the phone. The gentleman who answered was polite and answered my questions. I saw the pricing for this place on a couple third party sites and without asking about it, he said the room rates were the same as those sites (so skip the 3rd party sites -- you won't need them to get a better price). I anticipated arriving around 10:30pm or 11pm and was worried someone wouldn't be around to help me get my keys, but he explained the plan and it worked just fine. As it turned out, I arrived around 9pm instead, got my key, and headed to my room on the bottom floor. There is a sign outside that talks about a Jacuzzi tub of some kind. There is a sign inside (where you check in) that states that there is only ONE room with such a tub, so be aware of that. I got to my room and it is fairly spacious. There is a couch and coffee table and the bed is next to that. It has a bathroom that has been remodeled somewhat recently. The overall feel of the room is that it is old. It looks old, anyway, despite the flat screen TV. The colors and the light bulbs give off a very old school vibe, too. That isn't really bad per se, but it would have to be massively modernized and repainted and have new bedding/sheets if they wanted to bring it to the 21st century. Believe other reviewers about the pillows: you only get two. So bring your own. I didn't ask for more, but that's all there is in the room when you go in. From what I could see, the AC worked (I tried it), the fan in the bathroom was a little sketchy, but worked, and everything in the room worked just fine. The bed is really springy. I didn't flop down on it, but if I would have, I would have bounced. It is a little weird to sleep on. If I had brought more of my own pillows (I forgot), it would have been a little easier. Checkout required me to leave my keys in my room and I left with no troubles. For $75, it wasn't too bad. Overall, the front desk is pleasant and helpful. The rooms look old, but everything works in there just fine. The rooms are spacious and clean. My bathroom area was remodeled recently and I think they weren't quite finished with the fan/lighting in the bathroom, but it worked all right as well. The bed wasn't my favorite and I should have brought more pillows. For $75, I'm certainly not going to complain. I got my mission accomplished of a quick rest and was back on the road the next morning. If I had something like this come up again, I would stay at the Shanico Inn again, absolutely.

My wife had no idea what was going on until she walked out onto the balcony and saw the the very nice layout of food & flowers. Heather was very helpful and instrumental in helping me pull this off. She made sure the setting was just right and even added some very nice flowers that made it very special. I was able to play the music from our wedding reception over the house sound system which was very nice. I guarantee it was a dinner that will not soon be forgotten!
