I 1st had their Gluten Free Very Berry cheese cake when I stayed at the Sawridge in Edmonton (see…read morethat review). It was so good I went back to the lounge to have another peice when a friend joined me for drinks. Anyway it was so good that I asked the staff where it came from because it did NOT taste like other commercially produced GF crap. We had a surprise party for my mom's birthday yesterday and I purchased 2 cakes from them on Friday. 1 GF Very Berry Cheesecake and the Chocolate Caramel cake for the gluten eaters. They both came presliced with parchment paper between each slice so it made for super easy serving. The cake had 16 portions and the cheesecake had 14. They are in super sturdy cardboard boxes so I never felt once that these cakes would get squashed at anytime. They come frozen but I was told to let them thaw for 2 hours before serving for a whole cake 45 for a slice. I was told if left frozen the cakes would last 10 months in the freezer. Anyway all the guests devoured the cakes. Even though there were only 2 Celiacs the gluten eaters couldn't resist the beautiful cheesecake. I'm not sure if anyone but myself and my aunt knew the cheesecake was GF. I will DEFINITELY BE buying all my birthday/anniversary cakes from them from now on. I didn't feel like I was being left out of the gluten party.

Sounds like their cakes should be ordered before you just stop in. Their cakes are made in house and I would love to check out and get a tour of their facility one day. And their front staff were super lovely and friendly. Plus a bonus is they have their own parking and lots of it! I stopped in for their open house and they had a delicious display and samples available. That sold me on purchasing some of their tasty morsels! Who could resist a festive rum & eggnog cheesecake? They have some super open house special deals so if you need a dessert hit this place up! I got the thrifty cakes, which are the imperfect ones knocked back in price- they taste amazing so I don't mind what they look like! Sampled the carrot cake, which I had heard some raving reviews about, and hot dang they got a good carrot cake! Shredded coconut, pineapple, cream cheese icing! Super drool! I picked up the festive candy cane mouse for my GF friend, which was super lovely to hear that some of their most popular items are gluten free. Not so much available options for the diary intolerant people so be wary of that! But skimming through their book they have some really neat cakes and presentation- like a baklava cake, or the Mayan pyramid cake! Enjoy a sweet treat from Wow! Factor Desserts I know I will definitely be back here again!

To fully understand our experience at the Hillbilly Grill it's helpful to see it within the whole…read morecontext of our accidental visit to Westlock. We unintentionally ended up in Westlock as a result of a minor medical emergency (don't worry, everyone's ok). While we're waiting for the doctor in our shared room, we observe the cast of characters that Westlock has to offer. Patient number one is this old guy getting injected with a bag of blood who asks the nurse why she's wearing gloves. She explains, to his horror, that she gets a new set of gloves every time she sees a new patient. He loudly complains that this is a waste - he figures you outta be able to lick your hands and wipe them off on your pants and that should be good enough. I'm thinking, "okaaaay, pretty redneck." Not to be outdone, the next patient is a 30-year-old woman who needs some stiches and treatment for rabies! It turns out that she's an old timey fur trapper who got attacked by a wild animal while dragging a 75-pound beaver through the woods. As it happens, the emergency room doctor who was treating her is ALSO a fur trapper so the two of them ease back and start swapping fur trapping stories. Once we were done, we notice that it's nearly 7pm so we ask a nurse for local restaurant recommendations. She sends us to a "place that looks pretty sketchy" called the "Hillbilly Grill" - by now the terms "sketchy" and "hillbilly" do not come as a surprise. When we arrive downtown, we see that the restaurant is located in what looks like a 100 year-old western hotel. Apparently, someone in the 1970's decided to "update" the building and cover up the classic brick with stucco. This 70's style architectural vandalism continues inside the building as I witnessed the interior décor from 1974. I'm thinking to myself that now I know why God had to create a place called Hell. Our experience completely changed when our meal arrived. We get the brisket and the pulled-pork sandwich and I swear to God that it is the best southern-style barbeque I've had this side of North Carolina. Nothing in Edmonton or Calgary touches the high quality of food I had in Westlock. It was tender and moist with just the right hint of smoky flavour. Simply outstanding! While we were enjoying our meal the owner came out to shoot the breeze with us - a 47 year-old man with a crushed cowboy hat, plaid shirt, shorts, and socks with sandals. He tells us this story about how his restaurant got broken into by a local meth-head. "Turns out it was Donna, you know - the lady who owns the bar across the street? Turns out it was Donna's son Larry! I even took a picture of him as he was riding away on his BMX bike while flipping me off. Actually, I kinda feel sorry for the guy. If you're a middle-aged man living in your mama's basement still riding your BMX bicycle around town - then you probably should examine the choices you've been making." Ladies and gentlemen...Westlock, Alberta! If you're looking for some amazing food at a reasonable price with a truly authentic redneck experience you can do no better than the Hillbilly Gourmet Grill in Westlock.

Oh. My. Dear. Lord…read more Last time I was here I split every dessert on the menu with a friend. Worth every calorie. Today I thought actual food may be necessary, and as I have been craving fried chicken, I figured I would give the chicken and waffles a chance. Presentation: the skull sold it for me. Anything that makes a dish stand out makes me happy. Flavour: The chicken breading was so crisp and perfectly seasoned! No chain can compete with his recipe. No dripping grease, just wonderfully juicy chicken. Dare I say, it was moist. In the best way possible. And the waffles? Wow....just wow. Fluffy and delicious. Price: So this massive portion - which is just as generous as all of the portion sizes - comes in just shy of $17!!! Leaves a little money for dessert, if you have room!

It's hard to resist all the pastry goodies lined up so pretty at the window so of course we got a few. My personal favourites are the cannoli's. But this time we also had a very delightful danish, a rich cream horn and a jelly filled donut. We stopped and had lunch and ordered 2 different pizza's, which came out pretty quickly considered how busy it was. The Margarita pizza $14.00 (tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil) was delicious. The house made pizza dough is cooked perfectly by the way! And we also got the feature pizza. Nice clean bathrooms near the back of the store, plenty of parking out front. Overall a fun outing with the family that we all enjoyed.

Great first time impression going into the newest of the Italian Centres tonight. Bright, spacious,…read moreflows well from section to section. It still feels welcoming like the smaller store layouts with how they designed extra areas to display items. Smartly located north of Greenland Garden Centre, the hospital and the newer shopping common in Emerald Drive & Cloverbar Road. Easy to access going on and off Yellowhead from this location and plenty of room for whatever vehicle size you have. Handicap (several stalls) is right up along the building and not mixed amongst other parking spots. I need to applaud the staff. I've always thought the Italian Centre has friendly and helpful staff but tonight they were incredibly thoughtful. For someone like myself that is mobility limited, I use what I know at that time is going to give me the least amount of pain while shopping (that's 9 out of 10 times a shopping basket). Not only did the cashier bag the groceries well enough for me to carry with one hand, but while she was doing that, she asked another to grab me a cart. Both noticing my cane and how many bags I was about to try and carry did that favour before my shopping order was finished being scanned. I was very impressed she went a step further and offered to assist with the remaining groceries I was yet to load when she spotted I was still in the parking lot (colder weather means I move slower). This is definitely a first for me to experience that at an Italian Centre. Greatly appreciated as reaching into the cart for unbagged items is sometimes tricky for me (pumpkin was the culprit tonight). The layout of this place left me feeling impressed from the spacing of the aisles and the thought that went behind allowing extra room where there most likely would be more people gathered waiting (like at the deli). With the amount of items in there, I'm confident there was a lot more specialty items than at other locations. Even the kitchenwares was displayed in a such a way along the windows that I could actually see what was all there (and reach it easier if I did want to buy anything from an assortment of spoons, rolling pins, pans, pasta press, coffee perks and even icing applicators). I wasn't surprised to see they had a very large layout for all the vinaigrette and olive oil but the way it's showcased makes you feel like you're shopping in a wine store but you're definitely not. As directly to the right there's a very large display of cheese rounds attractively lit beside the deli. The deli and bakery counters seem longer than at the other locations (or maybe it's because again it's very well lit in key areas?). Definitely lots of choices for packaged or freshly cut meat and cheeses. The bakery area probably took me the longest in the store. As I needed to narrow down the options (as there's so many wonderful looking desserts!). Spinelli's café that has its own entrance and looks like during this time it is kept separate from the grocery area with the rope barrier. Looks like a generous amount of tables and next time I'll go earlier with the thought to check out that side too. Overall, The store impressed me. It's definitely worth the extra bit of driving time home if you're out that way already for other things or in need of a place to visit friends and grab a good coffee.
