It possibly started some of our infatuation with places like this with cool signs and history posted all over the walls. We had burgers for breakfast at Ferrell's before 10 a.m. Because why not? The tiny cafe has about seven stools, and both staff and patrons were nicely hospitable and enjoyable to visit with. Also, turns out my dad was at nearby Fort Campbell for basic training, and that sparked some nice conversation with him once I shared where we were that night. Walking in, the counter is on the left. There are several stools along the counter as well as opposite facing the side window. We were greeted immediately by the friendly staff. The menu is on the wall behind counter. It is pretty simple and covers all the basic diner items. We placed our order from the counter seats and waited no more than 10 minutes for the food to arrive. The waitress placed a checkerboard pattern wax paper down on the counter which was a nice touch, even though the counter was clean when we sat down. My dining partner and I both ordered a cheeseburger. I asked for fries and my dining partner wanted onion rings. Both meals filled the plate they were served on. The burgers had a nice char and were slightly greasy, as any good diner burger should be. The lettuce, etc. were all fresh and the bun was soft. The fries were cooked properly with a nice crunch outside and soft inside. The onion rings were very good, being nicely crunchy on the outside with soft onion inside. These were about the perfect definition of a good onion ring. We wound up spending $22.94 for lunch for two, but that also included a cheesecake dessert I forgot to take a photo of. I can tell you it was very good and made for a great ending to a really good meal. I would assume their breakfast menu items are just as good as their burgers, so would have no hesitation trying those as well if I am passing through in the morning.

I took a moment to notice the large vintage film projector they had by the door, and the clean, modern, rather dark decor of the place. I won't fault them for any of that. She seated me and asked what I'd like to drink. I asked what they had, and when they said they had Coke products, I asked for a Coke Zero, as I'm watching my calories and sugar. They didn't have Coke Zero, and the only thing they had without sugar was Diet Coke (which they were out of). When they said they were out of Diet Coke, I asked my server what they had to drink that didn't have sugar. . .she got a puzzled look on her face, stared at me for a few seconds like that was a bizarre request, and then said water. She said she was going to go check, she went back and asked someone in the kitchen and confirmed that's it. Water. No other diet drink. No unsweetened tea. On that note, I got up and left. I figured that was a bad start to a meal and the attitude I dealt with in even asking discouraged me even more. If you were here looking to be calorie-conscious (or watching your sugar intake) with what you drank, they didn't have anything for you. . .and even asking got me some funny looks.
