However, the service was significantly lacking this visit. They were rude, inattentive. We asked to sit outside and he said inside was better. So we said we'd prefer outside (as we've always done) and he rolled his eyes and walked inside. So we followed him inside and got a table. The appetizers took over an hour. The server never came back to check on us. We never even moved onto ordering entrees. And I'm annoyed because I thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin raviolis in the past. I wanted them again. It was a great place to stop while strolling the cobblestone streets of Parma. I recommend the food but not the service or atmosphere anymore.

I went for a Christmas Day lunch, and the 60E menu made the day a very special occasion. I took tons of pictures, but somehow lost them when I assembled them into a collage - grr! But refreshing my memory from the online menu, I started with the excellent local specialties of Mortadella and Parmigiano, there was a tortellini soup that was fantastic (probably the most locally famous dish of Modena), the Tagliatella con ragù di Bianca Modenese was built upon the most delicious noodle I'll probably ever eat. The chef came out and greeted us, which was a nice touch I experienced at no other restaurant during this trip. The fact that he was such a great host and that he was open on such a high holiday were commendable. We finished with a plate of panettone in addition to the more traditional ending of petit fours, the perfect end to a perfect Christmas feast, Modenese-style. My only recommendation is that they drop the 5E cover charge, which is beneath such a classy place (just raise the menu price to 65E).

I can see why this place earned a Michelin star, although some things were just short of greatness that we tried. A chef's compliment starter was superb. The blue crab, avacado, and caviar dish was just ok, with a Hypnotik-like blue liquid underneath that seemed more gimmicky than adding to the experience. Pasta dishes, and a tuna tartar and risotto small plate were excellent. The lamb entree just short of greatness, I expected the meat to be more tender (over-cooked?), but the flavor was fantastic. Everything is relative, and this place in another city might easily earn 5 stars, but our expectations were very high. Judging from other reviews, the traditional Modena dishes would've been great to try. Service was excellent as expected.

He then told Enzo to take care of his "new" friends. We decided that an offer like that can't be missed so we went there for lunch the nest day. My friend decided to give Enzo our go-ahead to bring out whatever he thought would put a smile on our faces. As you can see from the photo I posted, Enzo was table-side a lot, asking about preferences and potential allergies. We were treated to course after course of great, locally-sourced dishes, every one would be a signature dish for eateries over here in the USA. For example, he sprinkled Parmesan cheese on our risotto (etherial!) and added "aged thirty six months" - and it was rich, creamy and memorable. This small place deserves your attention and a high rating from anyone who understands what it takes to run a memorable restaurant that delivers quality, fair-priced food. In Maranello, the debate is always - Cavallino or Montana - the two most famous restaurants in town. Each has their fans - especially given their Ferrari-centered reputation (Ferrari big-wigs have a private dining room in Cavallino, F1 drivers have memorabilia all over the walls in Montana). However, having eaten at these other excellent places, this place beats them for service, taste, and price. Go, eat, you'll thank me later!

The wait-staff is friendly and are willing to talk about their lives and the food and the restaurant with enthusiasm. They attend all their tables closely and make sure that each plate comes exactly when needed. The food is basic fare of the the area around Modena and is of very high quality. The meats are tender and cooked to perfection. The mortadella and prosciutto is top-notch. The fried breads (gnoccho frito) are light and delicious. The tigella (small round breads) are delicious with the pork lard and the cheese, or the marmalade. And the table comes with fresh vegetables with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The cheeses are local and aged to perfection. The local wine - a Lambrusco - is exquisite. The dining area is outdoors - al fresco!
