I used Outback Leather in 2016 for a repair. To this day I'm still very appreciative of their work…read moreand realized I never wrote a review so here I am. I have been using a very cool looking leather key fob ever since I got it as a souvenir in Italy back in 2002. It looks like a miniature whip (don't ask ;-)) and I love it because I can easily feel the fringe part in the bottomless pit of my purse. In fact, it's actually very hard to misplace my keys because of this distinctive fringe. Anyway, a couple years ago I noticed the leather piece that attaches the metal keyring to the leather handle of the whip was starting to tear. I went to a couple places to see if they could repair it and came up empty handed. Then, finally, it completely tore. I tried jerry-rigging it back together but it looked like crap, didn't hold together, it just didn't work. Oh, well, all good things come to an end, so I put my keys on a "normal" key fob. Ugh, that was when I started misplacing my keys. What a pain!!!! The other bad part was having my favorite key fob sitting useless in a drawer. I couldn't part with it but I also dislike keeping broken things. Double ugh. People write "Ron is amazing" or some other accolade. Believe it! I found Outback Leather on a Google search. Somewhere it said they could do any leather repair, big or small, no matter how weird. I had nothing to lose. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was in a time machine and had gone back to bygone days. Remember the days when people actually had things repaired and very little was thrown away? I do. There are tools of the trade everywhere... piles of scrap leather, old projects, new projects, relics of the horse racing days at Laurel Racetrack, big old wooden workbenches, industrial leather sewing machine. I can go on for days. It's like a working museum. I wish I could be a fly-on-the-wall because I LOVE watching people make and create stuff. So Ron looks at my key fob and says this is nothing. In less than 10 minutes he had it repaired! He could have done it quicker if he didn't talk on the phone then greet another client. Not only did he match the color of the torn piece of leather but he even matched the texture of it, too. Then there was the "entertainment". What a wonderful, knowledgeable businessman. He explained all the different steps he was doing, even telling me the different ways he could have done it. We even talked about running a small business (which I also do), growing up in PG county and how he got started in business. It's going to be a sad day when he retires. No one around here has his skill nor knowledge base. What a treasure he and his business is!!!

Ron does amazing work on any project, big or small. I have recently had 2 jackets brought in, one…read morefor just a clean and treat, one for a zipper replacement, and the craftsmanship was so good, I had a custom made belt done as well! His delivery times are right in line with the estimates he gives, and the pricing is VERY good for the work being performed. I do not hesitate to recommend Ron and his team to anyone I know that needs leather repair work performed. Outback Leather has earned a customer for life!

This place is great! Old school couple who are a refreshing reminder of what this country is all…read moreabout. I have had nothing but fantastic experiences here, even though I bring some unique requests in. Mr. Moon somehow knows what I'm trying to request, writes my ticket up (yes, writing up tickets lacks in 21st century tech...guess what? Leather work is an age old trade and written tickets have no bearing on the product) , asks if the amount is ok (I'm looking at you "lil miss thing' who thinks she can negotiate bc "it's just one zipper"...if it were 2+ you'd be been charged more), gives me a completion date (usually beats it), and delivers exactly what I'm looking for. Exceptional service, all the way around. I wish this review was as delightful as my interactions with Mr. and Mrs. Moon...however, a couple of pretentious reviewers struck a nerve with me. A little advice: instead of letting 15mins of waiting or the price being more than what you think it should be, be appreciative of the opportunity to patronize two of the hardest working people in RVa. I had to wait a few minutes one time, so I asked Mr. Moon what his story was....those few minutes (extended out of desire) were worth a 5 star review alone...the craftsmanship and fair prices put the tally above what Yelp will allow.

Owners did a fantastic job on a pair of leather quad skates that were true to size but painfully…read morenarrow in the toe box. Even though the wait time was longer than I'd expected I was able to ask questions and I think I was charged a fair price. Picked them up this morning and they feel like completely different skates!! I love how they turned out and can't wait to try them out this week. The couple was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I'd definitely recommend!
