Cathy certainly seems to be the person to go to for all your hemming needs in the Brentwood/Oakley area! After calling around to numerous places asking if they can hem extra long, 110 inch curtains, with no one that specialized in it or would be able to do it, I finally stumbled upon Cathy's designs and gave her a call. Cathy does her work out of the comfort of her own home and it is by appointment only. The curtains I brought for her to hem, are really nice linen curtains from Pottery Barn and not cheap, so I wanted to know I was going to the absolute best. I let Cathy know how much I wanted her to take off, and she explained to me in full detail exactly how she will be hemming them. With years of experience, this woman definitely knows what she's doing, so I felt that my curtains were literally in good hands. She books up pretty fast, so it took about two weeks to get, and she did an outstanding job! And not to mention she was very reasonably priced. I was able to get in contact with Cathy the first time I gave her a call and scheduled an appointment for the same week. Granted, I have rarely gone to a business for alterations (my mother used to do simple hems for me), but I thought the price quoted was very reasonable. After an extensive search for an alterations expert for my wedding dress, I found Cathy. She was absolutely everything I was looking for. Knowledgeable, caring, patient and willing to customize anything. Nothing was "too much work" or "not worth it". She did everything I asked and more with a smile on her face. Example: After altering the dress, we realized that I was allergic to the material in parts of the dress. Each week I would go back in and try a new material that Cathy had placed over the irritant, and this continued until we found the right one. I cannot thank her enough for all her hard work. I was searching for someone to do some alterations with a few dresses I had that I needed to be done before I leave to Mexico which is a month away and the first place I messaged was rude and basically told me she couldn't do it . Cathy is great! I needed my Maid of Honor dress for my Best Friend's wedding alerted fast! The place I got it from Blossom's in Dublin (rip off), had me order a size 22 instead of a 14-16. I am 6.5 months pregnant, but seriously the 22 was way too big. Cathy did an amazing job tailoring my dress. It had 2 layers and the outter layer was chiffon. There was boning on the sides that made it less than easy to alter. She did it in such a timely manner and did a great job having it fit my body well. Thank you, Cathy! After leaving a coat with 3 other alterations places in Brentwood and Livermore, only to be told they could not do the work, I thought I'd just have to settle for a poor fit. Then I called Cathy. She saw me quickly and told me she could do it and charged a very fair price. When I picked up the coat, the difficult alteration job was complete and the coat simply fit perfectly and did not even look like it had been touched. Great work! Paid extra $$ for a rush cuz I was up against Prom Season and needed my suit brought in. Picked up my suit as scheduled,went to my event, and found that the back panel of my jacket was unfinished! I had to get it sewn up by someone else. I ignored the added pet hair on my fresh, dry cleaned, suit...but the unfinished back was unacceptable and my breaking point. Find someone else, if you can. Cathy is very responsive and was able to fit me in for an alteration fairly quickly though I did not have any time constraints. She is also good about having later hours during the week to accommodate work schedules. I am giving 3 stars bc it took Cathy 3 times (over the course of about 1.5mo) to get my suit sleeves altered correctly. They kept coming out different lengths. She finally got them right though and I am thankful. But, I definitely think I should've gotten some money discounted from my total since it took so many tries. read more

There are 2 parts to this review, facility and skill. On the skill level, the bridesmaids dress I got altered look fabulous. She's a very talented woman, and honestly doesn't charge much. She definitely has been doing this a while, and your garment will come back in perfect condition. On the facility side, she operates out of her home; and, it is not a clean setup. The place she has you change is in a smaller office in the back of the home, and the curtain doesn't go all the way around. While I was changing someone came home, and I was half dressed. It was superbly awkward. I felt so uncomfortable. I would recommend her, but for any young gals like me--keep in mind this is a persons home. read more

I am very, very happy with the work that Cathy did for me. I needed some new draperies shortened and I needed some beloved draperies from a prior house retrofitted to fit my new, very small, very funky windows. I am thrilled with how these projects came out. Her work was perfect. She is a true craftswoman. Cathy also does a lot of other things on the creative side (quilting, embrodery, etc.).
