I do not live in the Chico area, but I will probably have to make a drive back up for my next massage!

New to town and trying to find a good place for my monthly massage and facial. Decided to give…read moreRenew a try. Please note this review is not a reflection of the staff, just my personal opinion of the overall experience. The masseuse and esthetician were good however I had a few issues with the location. Located in a business park and very close to a main road right across from a high school. Upon entering the clean waiting room I was greeted and given paperwork to complete. There was a diffuser on, with a pleasant smell however the scent was extremely overwhelming...like hit you in the back of the throat, coughing overwhelming. While I waiting I noted there are two treatment rooms directly off of the waiting room, odd as I've always been to places where the check in/waiting area is separate from any treatment rooms. So close in-fact I could hear another guest talking to her masseuse. I was praying I wouldn't get the other room off the waiting area, but just my luck that was my room. My masseuse was very pleasant and did a good job. I had no issue with the service but the environment was so far from relaxing. Upon entering my room I noticed how bright it was. No overhead light but a lamp on and a large window with sheer drapes which let in a lot of light. This window also received direct sun which made the room very warm on a 100+ degree day. The massage started and I was trying to relax when there was conversation in the waiting room, a man was checking out and speaking very loud, he then excited the spa. There is a literal bell on the door handle which goes off every time someone enter or exits, if that wasn't enough there is an electronic chime that ALSO goes off every time the front door is used. I understand the purpose but it is far from relaxing hearing multiple chimes/bells when the front door is used. The bell/chimes went off multiple times during my service, very distracting. My treatment room shared the front wall of the business which has parking spots a sidewalks length away. I had the joy of hearing every car door open/close, honks from doors being locked and someone's very loud stereo, don't forget the motorcycle rev. The business is close to the road so you hear the traffic going by. I was there on a weekend so the traffic from the high school wasn't bad and most if not all businesses in the business park were closed. I can't imagine how loud it would be during the week. Following my service I was instructed to put on a robe and wait in the waiting area for my next service. I found it uncomfortable siting in my robe in a public waiting area while I held my clothes in my arms. I was then escorted to my next service, I was optimistic as I was taken back into the spa. Just my luck my next room was located with the main wall against the roadway. Thankfully I had a head wrap on and the facial steamer helped mask the sound of the passing traffic. But again, I could still hear the electronic chime every time someone used the from door. My service was good and the esthetician was pleasant and knowledgeable. I booked my appointment the night before and received multiple "reminder" texts the day of which was nice I'm on the fence if I will return or not, if I did it would only be for a facial as the environment is not relaxing for a massage in my opinion. .

I would be very cautious booking here. I clearly told the therapist more than once to stay away…read morefrom my spine area. I had to tell her three times in total before asking her to do legs only. Because of a lack of understanding of english I would suggest other therapists. Additionally she clearly wasn't an experienced therapist by the way she pushed on the spine multiple times. This has been the case recently with no regular therapist anymore. Always cycling new faces in and out. I was told by the owner this therapist is already out??? I experienced pain afterwards. I was told Wendy the owner was in China at the time so the manager Michelle gave me a piece of paper for a free massage with her signature on it. I did not want to pay for the poor and painful massage but I was told I could get a free massage with Wendy and would be able to talk with her about my experience when she got back. When I finally got to speak with Wendy, she was dismissive and put the blame on me. I was told it was my responsibility to end the session even though I had already communicated my concerns more than two times with a verbal understanding from the therapist. She stated... "it's a Chinese massage they don't speak or understand English, you should have got up and talked to the manager." She actually expected me to get up an hour into the massage get dressed and go talk to the manager about a communication problem??? I was told multiple times over the years that they have enough communication to understand all they needed for massage related questions. It wasn't a conversation I was trying to have. Very simple to understand, NO SPINE PLEASE! Then she hung up on me. I called back thinking it was a mistake and her husband Don stated she didn't understand me and didn't want to talk any more. The nerve of this person. He was just the same as Wendy. Dismissive, rude and not willing to work it out. I tried .t best to talk to this establishments owner and work this out. This is what happened. I have been here many times and I am familiar with Wendy. To be treated this way really says something about her and the way she handles her business and complaits brought to her. She is not honorable or genuine. She showed no concern or remorse for my experience or pain. Her willingness to dissmiss and potentially lose a customer of over 8 years for asking her to honor the free massge her manager gave me, and help me with pain I still was experiencing spoke volumes about her true nature. Chose wisely. There are many more professional and consistent options in Chico.

I sent…read moremy intake form a week ahead of time along with a message on it and he never even took the time to read any of it until I came to my appointment. Wasting 10 min. of my massage time. When the massage was over I realized that he shorted me 7 min. of a scheduled hour massage. We started at 2:25 and ended at 3:18. I arrived on time. Had he looked at my intake information before I arrived we could have discussed any questions or concerns via email, text or phone, or as the massage was starting to commence and the massage would have begun and ended on time. The massage was mediocre at best. Hence, his lack of experience of only 3 years. The points of pain that I told him bothered me more than others, he treated just like any other part of the body that had no issues accept for my shoulders, and sadly, that was mediocre at best as well. He needs to pay attention to his clients when they speak to him regarding issues of concern. I have had thousands of massages of many modalities, and all of my massage therapists are seasoned professionals and have the experience and are well trained to deal with all of my issues. They are very common issues to the well trained seasoned professional. I am trained myself in massage therapy in many modalities so I am well versed in what is expected during a massage therapy session and unfortunately this one did not measure up. Definitely go to someone with at least 10 or more years of experience and to someone who does not think that neurological and joint issues are uncommon when you come for a massage, like Issac does. Moving on. Hey Candi: I'm not going to spend much time on my response to you because I already said the the truth regarding what happened before and during my massage session. The bottom line is he was asked to a medium pressure Swedish massage and stay away from my neck. We spoke of my issues briefly but they were not the prime focus of the massage. I gave him the basics. He should have looked at my info beforehand in case he had any questions. If I needed him to lighten up on the pressure I told him to do so and it was still mediocre at best. It was not rocket science. FYI again, I did not get extra time. The session was done 7 minutes early and I was there on time. You said it yourself, he couldn't give me extra time since he had someone right after me. I finally found a professional masseuse familiar with all of my issues and we are a great match. I hope you find massage therapists that can handle people with various issues whether they turn out to be muscular skeletal, neurological, neuromuscular and the like. Your business will be better for it and I hope you and your massage therapists learn to take criticism as a positive tool. It's called being a grown up, instead of a child. Have a nice day! You are now blocked from any further communication.
