In one of the most obscure events of the night, when I visited this location on Royal Avenue during Culture Night I was ushered in to a make shift jail cell where a man was speaking about his experiences of being 'inside'. Now I'm not the best person to experience this as I was getting very claustrophobic and couldn't wait to get out of the place, but I must admit the experience was fascinating. It was amazing to see what the layout was like and how people have to live inside. I was intrigued by the 'convict' for want of a better word who spent 26 years inside for a crime he didn't commit. He talked us though the day to day life which sounded horrible. It certainly would put you off thinking about committing a crime. I think using this method to teach children about the wrongs involved in crime would certainly teach them a heck of a lot more than some psychologist saying oh kids now don't do this, it's bad. Although the experience certainly spooked me out, it was amazing to be able to meet this man face to face and discuss with him the reality of his life. read more
